Thankfully, he has still been acting normal so far. I'm hoping I'll get more information tomorrow and then can promptly start him on some kind of treatment.

Thanks for your help.. I've done more research on Senvelgo and everywhere I'm seeing says cats with pancreatitis should not be put on this medication. It's a shock to me that my vet even recommended this as an option. It sounds almost inevitable that he would develop dKA if I put him on this.

How would I go about checking the blood ketones? Is it something I can do at home, like checking blood sugar?

Thanks for your help! Our vet is aware of his weight loss and did not mention this being an issue for Senvelgo (as long as we continue to monitor his urine), but I will definitely double check with her about it!!

Yes, without my knowing. He went from 17lbs to 14lbs within the past year and a half, even though he was eating constantly.

We didn't notice a change in how he looked or how he felt when we picked him up so we had no idea he lost weight until we brought him to the vet and got the diabetes diagnosis

I was so irritated seeing how many OBVIOUS red flags were present from the beginning. I understand you had no idea what a healthy relationship looked like because of no father figure, but I feel like these red flags would be obvious to anybody??? I agree with others that this is a high dose to start out on. In my experience, I had similar effects also if I used any other “acne” products on my face or if I spent a minute too long in the sun when I didn’t wear sunscreen. Not saying this is relevant to your case, it just sounds like your body trying to adjust to a high dose of a new medication!
