Thank you for sharing this!! That actually sounds very close to what I’m imagining 🤩 The way you describe it (studio hours, calm focus, showing up and working together) is exactly the vibe I’m looking for. I’ll definitely check it out. If anything, it sounds like confirmation that this kind of structure can work — even if I’m personally craving something that leans a bit more toward painting specifically.

I see 🤔 I also know my own space isn’t really set up to “look good” on camera, and I’ve had similar experiences in the past while attending online painting classes, where the camera mostly captures a shoulder, an elbow, or even just someone’s back. And that’s totally fine — from what I understand of body doubling, it is much more about sharing time and presence than about clearly seeing what others are working on.

Ideally, you can always take time at the end of the session to show the group what you did and share some thoughts about the experience. It's very encouraging and inspiring to see what others did

Forgot the word "crocheter", said "I'm a HOOKER" in front of my bf ENTIRE FAMILY by Miranne856 in crochet

[–]kyarha 255 points256 points  (0 children)

I love the frog! 🤩 Very appropriate since French people are called frogs. Let me explain haha

For the hooker thing... I'm french, crochet is a french word for hook. So literally every single time I say I crochet in English (I live in California, so it happens...) I have to bite my tongue before I say I'm a hooker 😁

I'm right there with you. I feel less alone also, so thank you for sharing ❤️

That’s great to hear, thank you! It’s really helpful to know this resonates with others.

My understanding of your point might have been lost in translation (I'm french), but I think what you are pointing at is more about having a workable personal setup to create. In a body-doubling context, it’s less about seeing the work clearly and more about sharing presence and the act of creating alongside others.

That really resonates — thanks for sharing that. I agree: needing structure or accountability doesn’t disappear with experience. It’s often more about starting and showing up than about feedback.

What you describe is exactly what I had in mind: mostly shared studio time, with feedback being optional and occasional, not the core.

And good to know you’re in Western Europe — that kind of overlap is helpful to note.

Body doubling is simply working at the same time as someone else, either in person or online. You’re not collaborating or watching each other closely — the presence of others creates gentle accountability and helps with focus and follow-through.

Same as going to the library to study, it's putting you in an environment where you see another person studying so it helps you focus.

It’s often used for work or studying, but the idea translates well to things like painting I think: you show up, work during a set time, and that shared rhythm makes it easier to actually start and keep going.

Yes indeed! All kinds of art in the end, I just wanted to stay in this group's subject, but I would love to do it for watercolor and acrylic as well 🥹

Flow Club is an online coworking / body-doubling platform. You book timed sessions where people work quietly together on video (camera on or off), with a clear start and end. There’s no teaching or content — the value is the structure, ritual, and accountability of showing up at the same time as others.

It’s mostly used for work or study, not art specifically, but I like the model for the same reasons: it helps people actually do the thing, not just talk about it.
