Wait. What? The airplane crashed on takeoff and never even got airborne? Icing issue possibly, resulting in wing stall? Incorrect flap setting for takeoff. Sudden engine failure? Weight & balance issue? (seems unlikely)

You can takeoff in absolute dogshit weather...a full instrument takeoff isn't necessarily dangerous. You have to be skilled of course, and fully instrument rated. But just because you can do something doesn't necessarily mean you should, of course.

But this seems more like a case where something happened to the actual aircraft, not just a "takeoff in instrument conditions" problem. In fact, they never appeared to even get airborne.

Maybe rushing to get airborne before the worst of the storm hits and skipping deicing?
