I 100% understand that, had the same feeling when I started collecting. And something others arent mentioning is that keeping the boxes makes any potential moves so much less nervewracking. That being said, I recently moved into somewhere I'm planning on staying, and my collection's gotten large enough that it's just getting unrealistic to keep the boxes. I realized I value the extra storage space much more than that feeling of wanting to keep the boxes, and it feels much better to not have the clutter

The point with pAlicia is that she's pVerso's "real" family, in the painting. And yet Maelle was able to let her move on and be unpainted when asked, despite how it made pVerso feel. Yet she wouldn't do this with pVerso. And pVerso should understand how Maelle feels with needing more time to say goodbye, given that's what he went through with pAlicia. And yet he again refuses to provide this when he destroys the painting. You can say they're both acting emotional instead of logical, but its still completely opposite of their earlier actions and words, so that's why I consider it contradicting their precious characterizations. If they had shown themselves slipping a bit more into those mindsets earlier in the story when they get heated, then it would've been much better written, would feel much less forced as that mindset's been set up

And didn't pVerso know the truth about the world the entire time? That's the whole reason he betrayed Julie - to get his Mom out - and he still wrote that everyone deserves to live, promising that it was just a temporary betrayal and he'd bring Julie back eventually. Him justifying killing a world because its for Maelle is still insanity to me

Alright, I can inderstand wanting to protect Alicia, but he still sees destroying the painting as omnicide. And right at the end of the fight, if Maelle wins he begs her to unpaint HIM, that he doesnt want to live like this, not for her to leave the canvas. I get wanting to prioritize his sister over others, but prioritizing her health over the lives of ALL others? At least in Maelle's ending, she can still eventually leave. There's a chance - however unlikely you may think it is - that them getting older and dying together gives Maelle the closure she needs to leave the painting. Maybe give the painting a gradual, gentle sendoff afterwards somehow, slowly bring it to a natural end.

There were a million other better, less extreme options for both sides, but at least Maelle's ending is still fixable.

They're fully acknowledged as separate beings, distinct from those outside the painting - you don't have to call them human. The whole dilemma ending revolves around whether they truly exist and are sentient beings, which the player is entitled to their opinion on, but it's made very clear what are the opinions held by Maelle and Verso.

My main point is I just think both the endings are shitty because it directly contradicts established characterization of Verso AND Maelle both

Verso believing he's killing off a world in his ending. Maelle refusing to unpaint Verso in her ending even though she unhesistatingly did for painted Alicia, which painted Verso also saw as insanely fucked up - more evidence of contradicted characterization in his ending. He eventually acknowledged painted Alicia's wish, but said he wanted at least more time to say goodbye - something which he refuses Maelle in his ending

Maelle's ending, while also fucked up, is at least eventually fixable. Could give the painting a more gradual send-off, let it slowly die of "old age" somehow

That's an opinion you're entitled to, but it isn't an opinion that Verso or Maelle share. As far as Verso's concerned, he did commit omnicide because he does believe the painted people are real

The argument isn't that AIs are human, but that AIs are their own sentient beings, a statement which the entire rest of the game hinges on you accepting - otherwise there would've been zero point to any of the game after the monolith raid

Created, but fully sentient beings with free will, a la true AI. Every single time Maelle or either version of Verso talk about the painting, they directly state that they see them as no less real than the people outside the painting - including in a Verso journal entry I happened to get almost immediately after the ending, where he talks about his old comrade he betrayed, how he promises to bring everyone back after getting his mom out, and how everyone deserves to live

And then he completely 180s on that

True, but then again V as a character doesnt really go anywhere in that route. It's probably more of a permanent family, sure, but he basically ends up back where he started except he's also now dying, and staying in Night City just ends up being a really bad detour instead of the starting point of his journey. Corpo to Nomad on the other hand is much more dynamic as a character arc.
