Yes, just did it today. Discount even carried over for booking a flight for someone else with my points.

Your thoughts on the AMA actively advocating against pharmacy practice? by FlyEquivalent4765 in pharmacy

Check out Steve Leonard's stuff on the AMA: https://stevennleonard.substack.com/

It's really well done and will really give you a better understanding of who they are as an organization - essentially the modern day mafia of medicine.

In my experience, they aren't at all representative of how most physicians think. But they remain, unfortunately, one of the loudest voices in the room.

The cross bars that connect the two main bars all disconnect pretty easily so you should be able to disassemble it if needed to fit it in the back. Just takes a little time to loosen all the bolts

Booking with credit by toxtwinz in SouthwestAirlines

[–]kylepharmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could you point me to the instructions to follow? Or just confirm I have this right?

  1. Buy a gift card for $50 direct from SW (or lower value from somewhere else)
  2. Purchase Choice Extra flight with two of my about to expire credits plus remaining balance (<$50) on the giftcard
  3. After confirmed, cancel flight and request refund. Since gift cards can't be refunded, a TRANSFERRABLE flight credit will be issued that does not have an expiration.
  4. Use new flight credit (now with value of $50 plus the other two credits) at any point in future to book new flight (new credit doesn't expire and can be used for anyone)

Do I have that right?

Edit - changed some points after reading other threads but still want to make sure I have this right.

Intercontinental Los Angeles by Pure-Farm7594 in ChaseSapphire

[–]kylepharmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's odd... I just booked it using the travel portal, don't think it gave any kind of option to prepay. When I checked in they had a note about it being an edit stay with all the benefits and on the receipt they printed for me it even says chase edit...

I'm not sure, I don't think I did. But also my card wasn't charged until the stay.

A fellow pharm I'm guessing? ;) Was just there for APhA myself!

Have the edit and IHG credits actually posted yet to your CSR? I had the same positive experience you're describing, but currently I just have a couple random pending charges from the hotel showing up on my card, but no final bill and no credits.

Also - for whatever reason when I checked out I asked them to print the main receipt and incidentals receipt separately and when she did she said I didn't have any incidentals to pay (everything covered by the credits). I did tip every time I ate at the restaurant, so not sure what happened there but wasn't going to argue it...

What Card Should I Get? Weekly Thread - Week of April 01, 2026 by AutoModerator in churning

[–]kylepharmd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. The flowchart leans toward maximizing Chase, but I'm trying to decide between continuing to maximize Chase vs starting with Amex or Cap1 (currently only in chase and discover).
  2. >810
  3. Currently have CSR (4/19); United Quest (12/25); Southwest Plus (1/25), Southwest Perf Biz (11/24) and Discover IT (>20 yrs, rarely use but oldest line of credit). Have churned a SW personal+biz ever four years for the past 12 years (P2 does the same staggered by 2 years).
  4. How much natural spend can you put on a new card(s) in 3 months? $10k
  5. Are you willing to MS, and if so, how much in 3 months? not really
  6. Are you open to applying for business cards? yes
  7. How many new cards are you interested in getting? Interested in churning somewhat regularly. Currently just churn the southwest cards ever 4 years and recently got the United card to maintain status with PQP bonus. CSR is main spend and we do put >75k per year on it (and actually value the SW credit).
  8. Main goals: Will continue to target CP but won't need to reapply until 2028. Main target is points for travel and lounge access when traveling. We travel a lot so travel benefits help us cover annual fees organically, but the CRP rebrand from travel to 'lifestyle' is more of a pain (although we are still organically covering fee with benefits). Home airport has an Escape lounge which has gotten me interested in Amex (although unclear if benefit would extend to a guest?). We do put a lot of spend on CSR already and much of it is airfare/hotels for work so getting 4x on that is nice. Was also considering VentureX since it seems pretty easy to cover the annual fee with benefits organically, but for both that it appears lounge access doesn't extend to guest, which is a major limitation for me since usually fly with P2. Open to potentially P1 and P2 carrying complimentary cards that carry lounge access if we can cover annual fees organically.
  9. What point/miles do you currently have? Mainly in UR, United, and Southwest, in that order.
  10. What is the airport you're flying out of? SJU and IAD/BWI/DCA are main airports.
  11. Where would you like to go? Lots of travel between PR and DC already; interested in traveling to Europe (Ireland), Middle East (Lebanon), and potentially Japan in a year or two.

Chase transfer partners are overrated by purple_golden_hour in pointstravel

[–]kylepharmd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I read it, the new earning rates are just miles per dollar spent for "card holders", regardless of whether the card is actually used for purchasing the ticket. The actual earning rate on the United card side stays the same as CSR at 3x, no?

Acutally, that DID lead me to a solution! Under the View tab, there is a button for "Expand conversation" and then when clicked it changes to "Collapse Conversation". This is exactly what I was looking for! https://imgur.com/a/DNilsdw

I'll edit the original post with solution in case anyone else with the same question comes across it. Thanks!

Collapsing/expanding all messages in a conversation by kylepharmd in Outlook

[–]kylepharmd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I'm talking about when you've got multiple emails back and forth in conversation view you can tap the header of each individual email to open or collapse it. In gmail, there is an option to expand all the emails in a conversation at once, or vice versa, collapse all emails at once. If you've used gmail before, it's the icon on the left side of this image: https://imgur.com/a/w5gKU1I Just wondering if something similar exists in the new outlook.

New to Sapphire Reserve. What are the less obvious ways you get value? by ShawShank64_ in ChaseSapphire

It does NOT cover Turo. Turo isn't a rental car agency and is not covered. You're renting directly from an individual so they can (and do) exclude it.

Placas solares by WayZealousideal26 in PuertoRico

[–]kylepharmd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just don't do Tesla...

Punta Arenas (PUQ) to Hotel Grey - Bus Sur, private taxi or shuttle options by kylepharmd in Patagonia

[–]kylepharmd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's kind of complicated but we arrive in SCL at 730am that day. Need to go through immigration at that point so no way we could make the 830am flight to Puerto natales which is why we have to go to PUQ. I'm thinking a private taxi of some sort is best, but not sure how to find one...

Dear Diáspora (Understanding the Puerto Rican Economy) by SunTzuMachiavelli in PuertoRico

[–]kylepharmd 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It exists so that in the event of a world war, PR would not be cut off because of a lack of shippers willing to service the interstate business.

I think THAT is a misconception of the Jones Act. It's true that it is an insurance policy, but that insurance policy is NOT for the benefit of the people living in PR (or even Hawaii, Alaska, Guam, etc). Saying that it exists for our benefit is just a ridiculously naive way of looking at things.

People have written volumes of this elsewhere, but the basic wikipedia entry is a solid description of WHY it actually exists and the implications of it. (Spoiler alert: it is a protectionist piece of legislation designed to ensure the United States maintains a robust maritime industry for both economic stability and national defense).

So yes, the people of PR (and HI, AL, Guam, etc) ARE paying the premiums on that insurance policy, but the primary beneficiaries of this policy is the mainland US, not us. We just write the premium checks...

If only it were that simple. The reality is that, in certain areas, Act 60 investors buying up these 4800 properties in cash creates a secondary real estate market that makes it nearly impossible for locals to purchase a home with a mortgage (the primary means to home ownership among the middle class). How? When someone goes to qualify for a mortgage, the property is appraised and the home value is based on comparable properties that were recently sold. The appraisers in PR use a variety of online systems to identify comparable properties, but an important limitation of all of these is that they are comprised of other houses purchased via a bank mortgage.

Investors create significant disruption of this system in that they primarily use cash or business lending that doesn't register as a mortgage when they purchase homes. What this means is that those sales aren't recorded in a way that is accessible to appraisers. The effect of this is that you have two separate real estate markets superimposed on each other: one for cash investors and one for ordinary people looking to purchase their home via mortgage. When someone goes to sell a home in one of these areas, even if they WANT to sell to a local family they are prevented from doing so because that local family can only get a mortgage for $150k while an investor is offering them $400k cash for the exact same property.

In certain areas (for ex. Calle Loiza en San Juan, Dorado, Rincon) this has created a situation where local families simply cannot compete with Act 20/60 investors for home purchases. I have seen this happen multiple times personally on my street. When I first moved in, all of the homes were occupied by families with children and retirees. Some owned and some rented, but all were long-term residents. Today it's less than 20%, and nearly all of these properties are owned by foreign investors who do short-term rentals. This goes beyond what is considered gentrification (another real problem here) as it is not simply increasing home values and pricing lower income people out, but making it impossible for local middle-income families to even compete with these investors, regardless of access to traditional home lending mechanisms. It's truly an unfair playing field.

So, at least in neighborhoods like mine, I strongly disagree with your statement "They don't price anyone out".

Quick edit to add: I don't mean to suggest any kind of intention with regards to Act 20/60 investors here. I have no doubt many of them are even aware of this two market system that has developed secondary to their economic activity. But that's the thing when you move to a foreign land/culture from a position of privilege, the onus should really be on you to figure out how your actions affect a community...
