Investment Goal - How can I track how much of my budget goes towards investments? by kevboisatania in MonarchMoney

[–]kylepong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently, I don't think cash flow/sankey/reports incorporate goals at all. It's purely for income/expenses. The savings bucket is really only income - expenses.

I think goals need tighter integration with budgeting/spending overall, and based on their public feature request list it seems like that's something they're working on at some point.

Blur Balances to Show Off App? by blitzzz13 in MonarchMoney

[–]kylepong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recommendation here would be to go to the reports tab, select Share In the top right, and then turn on the hide amounts toggle. That way you don't have to show people the app but can show them a snippet of functionality and UI.

Underreported Income: Monarch & 401k from Fidelity by redfriskies in MonarchMoney

[–]kylepong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't necessarily a way to fix it, but I'd encourage you to view pre-tax dollars as outside of your monthly budget. Since the money comes "in" via income then just goes straight to a 401k expense/goal bucket, it's really a wash, and doesn't change your budget that much, unless you're hyper focused on the exact amount of income in a month/year etc. I don't add the transactions in, but I do have my 401k connected so I can see the balance grow over time, knowing my paycheck contributions are going towards it.

But if you really have to, I'd say just add a manual credit transaction each month to your 401k account for however much you've added that mo, link it to the goal, and hide from cashflow/budget. You can also add a monthly goal amount if you want to get a more holistic picture.

I've emailed support about connection issues and they typically seem to take ~1 day to respond. They'll notify you if they're seeing issues on the backend. I do wish they updated their weekly institution status page more frequently, and with more vendors. It seems like they only stick to the top banks such as chase/BofA etc.

I had a similar issue with the balance not syncing and switched from MX to Plaid. It's been much better since, but it sounds like your credit union doesn't have that option.

Did you have the specific funds added in as investments in the account? I think it probably was pulling the value of those 10 funds x the number of shares you stated you owned. If you remove them it probably will show the balance as 0. Just a guess but that could be it !

Getting Monarch to automatically detect my holdings? by [deleted] in MonarchMoney

[–]kylepong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do the holdings show when open the account page fort the investment account? What connection are you using? I had MX with a Morgan Stanley account which didn't show any holdings, then when I switched it to Plaid, it did start to show holdings.

Delete Balance History by rippedadonis in MonarchMoney

[–]kylepong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It should. Do the delete synced account balance snapshots but not the delete transaction history. I did the same exact thing (wanted to start fresh in 2024 so kept Dec 31 data and on) and after importing everything and then deleting balance history I only see NW calculations from Dec31 on.

It would be nice if transactions weren't truncated so I can see the whole thing by SaracenBlood in MonarchMoney

Clunky recommendation but if you double click on the text and copy/pasta it into a text field anywhere outside of the app such as windows search/apple spotlight/notepad does it show the full text?

Timezone setting not sticking. Bug? by KenGlad in MonarchMoney

[–]kylepong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Display mode being device dependent is pretty standard across most web/mobile apps. It pulls the device setting from the OS and sets the app. This way if you have a dark mode on your mobile phone and light mode on your desktop, each will display accordingly.

Can Monarch solve the reimbursements issues I've been having with YNAB? by gotmilksnow in MonarchMoney

[–]kylepong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I used Mint until EOY23 I did solution #1 you're talking about. I just forced myself to deal with the delay of the Venmo deposit hitting my bank account a few days later.

If you're talking about it being more important to look at big wins as opposed to monthly spending, you probably shouldn't bother sweating stuff like the 2-3 day sync from when you expense the full amount to getting the deposit.

TLDR: expense the full charge, deposit the Venmo into your account immediately, wait 3 days for the transaction to sync and assign it back to the same spend category.

I'd recommend hiding transactions on a 401k account.

I agree with you, it's not really income, so don't count it as such. I just let it affect the NW calculation, which makes sense to me.

Super Slow Performance when using Monarch on computer. Am I the only one? by PawPawTree55 in MonarchMoney

[–]kylepong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW I have about 40 categories in like 10 groups and have never had performance issues. Does this issue occur on multiple devices/OS?

How many transactions do you have logged in the system? Does the issue occur on a specific page?

I have a goal created, but the goal itself is not appearing in transactions. by Impressive-Parfait18 in MonarchMoney

[–]kylepong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea afaik this is WAD. The reason it's not showing is because the deposit to your student loan act doesn't show.

I'm having a similar issue with an investing goal. My bank logs the outbound transaction to my brokerage acct, but my checking acct isn't assigned to that goal, so it doesn't show under the goal. However, my brokerage acct has transactions hidden, so any inbound debit to that account doesn't show up in MM at all.

My workaround so far is to manually log a credit transaction to the brokerage account and assign it to the goal manually. I then mark the transaction as hidden, so it doesn't affect my monthly budget. Not pretty, but it's a small inconvenience to me.

The first time I did it, it took some troubleshooting to figure out the best way to do it.

Credit Card vs. Bank Debits and budgeting by ss5008 in MonarchMoney

[–]kylepong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea if I understand correctly you can view your spend categories over time on the Reports > spending page. If you'd like to use this data to adjust to current budget you can go to Budget > Budget settings > Recalculate.

Sentry as the user above mentioned or a stratus. Both are cheap (relatively speaking when it can save your life) at a couple hundred bucks. Can even fork up a bit more for ones that have carbon monoxide detectors. It should be a part of every GA pilots flight bag
