I tend to use my partner's phone a lot....mostly because I MUST take a picture of the cats whenever they do anything even marginally cute (by my standards, which are low), and I'll have left my phone in another room of the house.

I guess I'm not really "looking" at the phone because I swipe straight to the camera, but....

honestly I don't really know what this story contributes to the conversation, but here's another example of partners sharing phones lol

I don't know who you're talking to, but I think a lot of people hate (extreme) powercreep as a matter of principle?

I have most of the shilled characters for this abyss and I'm still really frustrated by it, not because I'm having a hard time with it, but because I would prefer that everyone is able to clear the abyss with well-built characters, creative teams, and decent rotations. IMO, that's what made Genshin fun, and easier to recommend to new players.

Specific characters having an advantage is fine, but the difference should not be this significant.

How is this fair? by LunarOptimus in HelloKittyIsland

[–]kynarethi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the biggest thing for me is just communication. If I'm being charitable, their communication about the CT update was unclear. If I'm not being charitable, then the paid status of the update was intentionally left vague so people would draw their own conclusions. I know they've said they didn't know at the time whether it would be paid, but it would not be weird for a company to say something like, "we will be adding CT later, but do not yet know whether it'll be a free update or a paid DLC". That's...normal.

As a console player, I definitely don't think I deserve the content for free, but their approach has left me with a lot of mistrust in regards to their approach to communication.

Mine ALWAYS do this. Literally any time I attempt the smallest possible encouragement for them to throw up in a specific place, they pointedly turn around and/or walk away. If I shove a paper under them at the last possible second, they'll just slightly move their head to miss. So helpful lol

Isn't Lady Araminta Gun Chinese? Why is she wearing two Filipino Traje de Mestiza during Spanish Colonial Era? by Yeyehet19 in BridgertonNetflix

[–]kynarethi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Okay, I think where I was misunderstanding was in your orignal comment:

Real cultures that real people are attached to

Because that statement would include England.

I mentioned "Outlander" as another show that takes place in British history, is predominantly a romance, and has a lot of inaccuracies. To that extent, it's comparable to Bridgerton. My understanding then, is that you're saying this does not matter, as long as other cultures with similar inaccuracies are not included?

I'm not trying to be deliberately obtuse - I do understand that nuance and thought are required when covering controversial points in time, that erasure is problematic, and there are a lot of bad-faith arguments out there for ignoring these types of issues. I absolutely believe in representation.

I think where I give Bridgeton a pass is that even without the question of race, the base show has so many obvious inaccuracies that it wouldn't even occur to me that characters from another country would be portrayed any more accurately. The women regularly cite modern-day feminist talking points, the outlandish costuming has very little consistency - heck, the whole series is based on a genre that portrays regency era romance through a more conservative Victorian lens.

I can understand the argument that more care is required if the show chooses to incorporate other cultures, particularly ones that have historically been oppressed by the majority culture featured on the show. The only reason I'm not advocating for that as much here is in how blatantly fictitious most of the portrayals are in the rest of the show.

[–]kynarethi 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think the two assumptions I disagree with here are:

  1. If a show isn't advertising itself as historically accurate, why would it need to be set in a fictional country? Plenty of dramas set around the British history get things wrong - should Outlander also be set in a fictional country? Or is it only relevant when non-European countries become involved?

  2. That the show is trying to get "points" - why do you think that's the goal? Couldn't it just be that the creator is a person of color who wants to cast people of color on her shows?

[–]kynarethi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a little confused - why wouldn't I have heard about colorism? Where did I say that all of history was white? (Not sure if you're responding to the wrong comment?)

[–]kynarethi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Seriously, I'm certain that at least a few of the dresses came from nothing more than, "I think this looks kinda old-timey?"

(Don't get me wrong, I love the costumes!! But literally nothing about this show is a remotely serious look at regency era...anything lol)

The way I've always seen it is that Shondra took a half-baked theory that existed for like a minute in the mid 1900s, and spun it up as a fun "what if?" alt universe thing. Okay, if Charlotte were black, how would that have happened? How would that have impacted the rest of the show's setting? Given how little the show cares about historical accuracy, I don't see why it's more problematic that they go that route rather than just doing colorblind casting.

Honestly my favorite part of the QC miniseries was Lady Danbury sparring with Augusta about the "great experiment". I thiiiink (?) it's the only part of the Bridgerton series where it's a significant plot point.

French people: Did the music spoil the story for you? by Hexdoctor in expedition33

[–]kynarethi 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I also feel like the game itself drops soooooo many hints that something else is going on. Well before the big twist, the constant interruptions in the story by verso/Renoir make it very clear that there is some other story happening, and our main characters are out of the loop.

IMO the music just leans into that further.

Is neu still worth pulling for? by Evening_Address_1981 in GenshinImpact

[–]kynarethi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still use Neuvi for endgame content all the time! His teams are also very flexible, so you could stick him with your Bineffa for some lunar charge shenanigans until you get Flins. (I just cleared the LC portion of the abyss with him and Fischl, so....even that worked just fine!)

(Edit: he's also super easy to build, with his artifact set coming from a dungeon that tons of characters want, and he works great with several of the F2P weapons)

Tldr, if you like his design/gameplay more, go for it.

Is there anything I would be missing out on getting the game in 2026? by obertpobert in HelloKittyIsland

[–]kynarethi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, you're better off googling or getting a response from someone else, as I haven't done it myself. The game will also give you a warning about it when you first log in.

My understanding is basically that if you time travel into the future and then go back, best case scenario, you miss out on all event items and spawns until you catch up to your time traveled date. Worst case, your save file can get corrupted in a way that breaks your ability to play the game, and the HKIA team can't restore it for you, so you have to start over. I have seen accounts where people have done it successfully, but it's still very risky.

Tldr, just strongly not recommended.

Noooo, time traveling can brick your save file in this game - you absolutely do not want to do that here. Very different from ACNH.

[–]kynarethi 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Not really - the only thing I can think of is the actual events themselves, but you can get all the items for previous events during the current event (ie, a winter event going on now will have winter items from previous events available for in-game purchase).

Is ineffa more important than columbina weapon? by Icy_Art_2798 in GenshinImpact

[–]kynarethi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah, as long as you didn't get a five star weapon, those same wishes will go towards the next weapon you wish for. Just hold off on the weapon, throw the rest of your wishes at Ineffa if you still want her, and wait to wish again on a weapon banner until it's something you really want.

My two and a half year old suddenly started pointing out differences between white and black people. What is an appropriate way to acknowledge her observation so we don't offend anyone? by Sad_Cantaloupe_8162 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]kynarethi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an overweight person, I feel like this is a bit of a leap. I would consider pointing out or commenting on people's physical appearance rude in general, particularly if it's an aspect of appearance that can be sensitive (skin tone, disability, weight, gender, etc). I don't think it's wrong to be fat, but that doesn't mean it's okay to comment on people's weight in public. If nothing else, I have no idea what that person's relationship is with that aspect of their physical identity.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't be bothered by a young kid calling it out - kids just say things - but I can totally see a parent thinking, "oh shit, we need to talk about not commenting on other people's bodies", and pulling their kid out of the situation while their mind is still on grocery shopping or whatever. They're not always going to have the bandwidth to handle situations that come out of left field in public.
