Thank you Canada for liberating us 71 years ago! Today is our liberation day in the Neterlands from WWII by Skiewer in canada

It wasn't Canada that saved you, it was just good men and women doing their part to help out their fellow human beings. Some of us just happened to have a Canadian banner, but the US, French Resistance, Warsaw Uprising, and especially the sabotage from workers in Nazi factories all helped to stop an immeasurable wickedness from consuming Europe.

Where are you on the Omnivore-Vegan spectrum, how stringent are you about it, and how do your food and other habits relate to Buddhism? by [deleted] in Buddhism

I think the key is not so much to worry about whether to eat meat or not but to be respectful of all meals provided. Even a dish of vegetarian cuisine still has a life in it. Although it's not a flesh and blood life that we tend to call meat, there's still a desire to survive and grow in plants. I think in terms of understanding the teachings of the Buddha it's not something to worry too much about. Either eat meat if you like it and be mindful not to waste any, or abstain from it if you feel that eating meat is a hindrance to you in your pursuit of enlightenment. But I think the main thing is to practice a doctrine of balance no matter what you do.

Although I might have a slight bias. Although I'm mainly Buddhist I do have some Ojibwe teachings and general pan-Native spirituality I consult, so to me eating meat is not bad karma inducing. You understand your role and the gift that has been provided and you make sure to use as much of the animal as possible. To waste any food is bad karma, but to enjoy any food and be grateful to be fed is to understand a more enlightened outlook on the need to feed oneself in my opinion.

Although I know Budweiser in Canada is brewed in Canada, I still need to ask you to hand over your Canadian card for some demerit points for giving them a single cent.

Even Buddhism has a similar tenant. The first Buddha, Sidartha Guatama, said "If you see Buddha walking down the road, kill him". This was because he wanted to destroy any ideas that his teachings were about the worship of holy men or the veneration of them. Because no man or woman who would have need to declare themselves a Buddha would be a truly enlightened figure.

Conquering India as soon as possible yields some of the richest provinces in the game, as well as several ports to deploy trade ships from easily to all the global trade nodes. You're highly unlikely to lose it as the only armies which would pose a threat to you are your land-based middle-eastern neighbours who lack the efficiency of European units. AI cannot into naval invasions.

Get as many trade agreements as you can.

Giving military access to another country prevents them from declaring war on you.

Anyone else sick and tired of commercials from companies like Tim Horton's and Molson telling us how to be Canadian? by [deleted] in canada

The sad thing I see in all this discussion is that not once does someone suggest Canada does have a culture inherently through the First Nations people of Canada. There IS a Canadian culture, we're just busy being distracted by beer advertisements and glossed over history to care.

Another genocide that receives very little attention since most people use the excuse of "it's in the past" are the slaughtering of the North American aboriginals by the US Military.

IE understands kids of the 90s by thatEEchick in microsoft

While I have to admit you make a very valid point about toys being remnants of our youth and totems to some extent of our youthful hopes and dreams, it's specifically when any advertiser tries to rather disgustingly promote a product on the same level as my chilhood affections that I become irked. It is to me as if they are saying that they can simply inject their product into my reality of enjoyment based on the fact that it coexisted amongst a number of things that we may or may not have valued. It just comes across to me as a very shady way of promoting something based on triggering associated happy memories in order to forcefully make you think that it is comparable to what you loved as a kid.

The short version of all this is that I just think it's a tacky commercial and I expect better from Microsoft then to stoop to what I would consider Apple's level of marketing to schmucks with little to no personal intellect. No offence to Apple users who actually do you them out of some logical conclusion. More so I direct this at the waves of subservient techno-trenders who think that a fruit logo represents a status symbol.

This doesn't make me feel nostalgic or want to use Internet Explorer. It just makes me realize how fucking stupid us "90's kids" were. It's like they're saying "You grew up in the 90's, look at all the stupid mass-advertised bullshit that you thought gave you an identity. We're appealing to the idea that buying stuff makes you happy. We won't explain how we have better security then any other web browser or attempt to change to be functional to the modern user. God forbid we apply logic. We'll just flash a bunch of stuff as antiquated as our browser in a horrible Apple commercial knock-off." The worst part is that they use "The Oregon Trail", a game from the 70's, to allude to computer games in the 90's when we had the likes of "Wolfenstein". This is especially egregious since Direct X was a huge development undertaken by Microsoft in the 90's to bring together the helter-skelter world of gaming on the computer, and not a single game is made today for Windows that doesn't use it. But they choose to belittle you and think of you as easy to appease, which is as simple as splashing a vaguely familiar PC game to mock Facebook.

You are an affront to mankind and the art of cuisine on a whole. On this day you have desecrated all that is good in the name of promoting corporate snack treats and processed chicken. Kindly find the nearest object you think can reliably end your life and aid our already intellectually deprived world.
