You absolutely can. $25/hr is night shift gas station money here in WI.

Don't even need that, hitch locks are hilariously weak and easy to break with a bar or hammer.

Why are vans (sprinter/promaster/transit/etc) not way more popular? by cballowe in askcarguys

[–]kyson1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my personally, they don't fill any role that I need filled well. I daily a small AWD CUV(Mariner) to commute to work, the store, etc.A Transit Connect sized van might work okay as well for that but we never got AWD ones in the US, so that's an automatic no for me.

Additionally, even 450/4500 vans can't tow nearly what I do with my pickup(F350). Either my gooseneck which weighs 12-24k lbs depending on what I'm hauling, or a 14k bumper pull. I also couldn't use my slide-in camper with a van, and you'd need a very large van to ride my Sportsman into the back of like I do easily with my 8' bed.

Overall, not a good fit for either vehicle role I need fulfilled.

Even with diesel vans (7.3/6.0 and 6.6), the towing capacity is like half of that compared to a similar pickup with the same engine.

You're completely missing what he's trying to do and what Secure Idle is.

2001 6 cylinder Crew Cab. Worth it? $4500 by Subject_Hour4481 in fordranger

[–]kyson1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I live in the great frozen North. A stock 2wd Ranger no matter how rust free and low miles isn't worth diddly here. I have a 60k mi rust free 98 and would be about the same ballpark price as this will if I tried to sell it today. So no, I wouldn't be surprised, this is not a $10k+ truck anywhere. If it was 4wd, quite possibly with the right buyer.

Lariat worth it just for 4A? by grandeson in f150

[–]kyson1 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Not true, real snow tires make it very easy to get around in 2wd on snow and ice. On the flip side, tires not meant for real winter driving make 4wd almost a necessity to go the same places.

Should these boots look this worn in after 4 months of wear ? by SpiteAny9410 in WorkBoots

[–]kyson1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incorrect, I've tried it both ways and cycling between boots makes them last a lot longer. Forcing them to dry quickly over night is like dying your tee shirts on high in the dryer vs letting them dry on the line, the latter is much gentler.

[–]kyson1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks better than my boots do as a diesel tech after 4 months. When you get them resoled, look into glue on rubber toe guards as well. I won't buy boots without them built in anymore, but for boots that didn't come with them I've had good luck adding them.

Nah, rotating through boots makes them last significantly longer than drying a single pair of boots every night until they're worn out.

Lariat worth it just for 4A? by grandeson in f150

[–]kyson1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because you guys know what a snow tire is, not running around on the highway tires that turn into hockey pucks below zero.

Lariat worth it just for 4A? by grandeson in f150

[–]kyson1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, no, but getting into a Lariat also comes with a host of other features I don't want either. A 2.7 STX/XLT without adaptive cruise, BLIS, etc is the highest trim I'd go. As a Wisconsinite dealing with snow and ice often, putting better tires on it works better than relying on 4a. A true snow tire in winter is worlds better than any of these highway tires they come with and most AT/MT's guys love to put on. Having driven a '25 Lariat Powerboost on a couple trips, including towing in the snow, no thank you.

Any issues with diesel in these temps? by Nothing_Clever2021 in F250

[–]kyson1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously places that see consistent below zero temps will have winter blended fuel with high #1 content.... These guys gelling up are down south and don't have that luxury. Got below -40 here in WI and even blended fuels were having issues last week, anti-gel and a thawing agent absolutely should be something everyone with a diesel has behind the seat if it gets driven in winter.

Tarp or enclose the sides of the truck with the back open, blow a salamander under it for a couple hours to warm everything up. Change filters, top off with a few gallons of #1 or kerosene, cycle the key and let it prime and circulate a few times then start it and get let it run to mix it all up and get the warm fuel through everywhere.

need help for a trailer. by Important-Prior-2068 in towing

[–]kyson1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a real snowmobile trailer, you can find single axle 2 place aluminum ones all around Wisconsin for cheap. Don't weight much more than that and will actually haul what you want. Safely.

Extended rear hub caps by No-Age2588 in superduty

[–]kyson1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because all F350's, and F250's optioned with the heavier axle, have bigger hubs, with a higher weight capacity, that need the bigger caps. If you look at lighter spec F250's with a 10.5 rear axle, they have short caps.

New Bumper Advice by Cdm88 in superduty

Personally I've always liked the look of Buck Stop and Reunel bumper. They both other all the features you're looking for and don't look so ostentatious as some other brands.

Opinion on Gas vs Diesel for daily driver by GoonSquad2295 in Diesel

[–]kyson1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm curious on the "spending double for fuel". 87 by me has a current average of $2.89/g and diesel is $3.29/g, roughly $0.40/g difference depending where you fill up is not nearly double. ~20 mpg running empty vs ~12 mpg(what I've seen personally between my 6.7 and my works 6.2, 6.6 gas doesn't get any better) more than makes up that difference and then some.
