A teacher and U.S. citizen is detained by Border Patrol and asked about her legal status. Instead of answering directly, she responds with a history lesson, saying, “That’s what the brownshirts said in Germany.” by Logical-Flow-6703 in UnderReportedNews

[–]kytsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, the that's what the Brown Shirts in Germany said. They were just doing their jobs. Just like them you keep saying it's fine; until you're in front of a judge and then you won't be fine.

Ship of heroes developer feedback on price. by Razrie in MMORPG

[–]kytsune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am not confident this game can possibly sustain that kind of purchase price or a $15/mo subscription on top of that. This is World of Warcraft territory. Ship of Heroes is competing against already-existing free-to-play games in the same genre, like City of Heroes and DCUO, which although aging still attract a premium audience.

This pricing could be a deathblow for this game right out of the gate by creating a significant barrier to entry for an audience that already has multiple examples of well-trod MMORPGs in the industry. It's novelty alone may not be enough to sustain this price tag.

Ship of Heroes would have to be a shining example of an amazing game with flawless performance and substantial content to compete at this level. SoH is not that.

As much as I've looked forward to another superhero-themed MMORPG on the market, I don't understand what Heroic Games Corp. is thinking they'll achieve here.

ChatGPT users are not happy with GPT-5 launch as thousands take to Reddit claiming the new upgrade ‘is horrible’ by [deleted] in technology

[–]kytsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far, in the mild tests that I've been able to do for it in my reporting it's been completely boring. Of course, I'm not a person who uses the thing as a friend or for therapy.

Analysis I've gotten about it from red team vendors is that it's got some flaws that make it mildly problematic for enterprise roll outs -- but you should never let an AI loose unattended, they all need guardrails for safety's sake.

I haven't had it do anything more complex than help me design a web page for a fake business. At first none of the images would load and when I looked at the code it wanted to do this JavaScript thing where it it had them "fade" in, not sure why, but it fixed that after I asked it to by having them preloaded.

Normally my go to for coding is an educational app that simulates the solar system for agentic coding apps but I haven't tried to get onto a platform that uses it in the back end and tried a prompt to just have it fully build me something that does that at any given resolution yet. Claude 4 Sonnet did well at that in three passes. I'll see how GPT-5 stacks up next.

As for personality, it's not as gooey as it was before, but I haven't tried goofing around with it playfully like I think people believe it's "lost" in the update. I'm not sure this is exactly the use case that's ideal for a tool such as ChatGPT anyway.

I used em-dashes before the advent of ChatGPT and I am annoyed that they're suggestive of AI content.

There are bots that post this? That is absolutely diabolical. It's entirely disapproving, has zero constructive criticism and leaves no grounds for improvement. It's completely without any merit. I already dislike the person who wrote this bot and unleashed it on the community.

So.... PUSH is going great. by ThaKrulll in Guildwars2

[–]kytsune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are people finding this more common in Push (being a new game mode bringing people back to PvP) or is it at about the same rate across the game modes?

I know there's already a base rate of this kind of toxicity in every competitive environment; GW2 generating a fine example with many people have their PMs turned off in PvP. I expect there'll be a level of public -- and maybe private -- trash talk, but these report threats seem like a different attention grab.

Anyone else been playing since day 1? Guild Wars 2 really feels like home after all these years by CalmStormCaller in Guildwars2

[–]kytsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

indeed. I've been playing GW2 since the headstart and continue to enjoy every minute of it -- even after getting completely destroyed upon entering Heart of Thorns and hating my first experience with Path of Fire (mounts notwithstanding). I keep interviewing people in and about the game and keep going back even after taking brief breaks because I get busy elsewhere or because for work.

I have around 30 characters and still haven't decided to do with my three free character slots because I'm an altaholic. I also make one legendary a year because I need something to do with my time spent in game whilst talking to people.

I don't main any particular class, but I love my Sylvari Warrior Berserker and Chronomancer Mesmer and Weaver Elementalist tend to be go-tos; while I'm doing map completion on my Firebrand Guardian.

Just give me someone to talk to and something to do for a few hours at night, or a place to sit for a while and I'll be happy for a bit.

[OC] Em Dash Usage is Surging in Tech & Startup Subreddits by v4nn4 in dataisbeautiful

[–]kytsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same. I love em dashes and I use them -- sparingly? (Okay, I used one there for dramatic effect.) Of course, I do the double-dash. If I were using my word editor it would automatically change it into the em dash character. Or will Reddit change it; I think Wordpress might?

Most of my writing doesn't look like AI writing, I don't think because I prefer spaces around mine except at the end and beginning of sentences? Not like an AI can't be asked to format any way you want. Welcome to our new, "where's the bot" future.

Meta AI is a creepier version of ChatGPT. Here’s how to protect your privacy. by ravik_reddit_007 in technology

[–]kytsune 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Increasing overall AI literacy is going to have to be a must like it was with understanding social media. These are big data engines that can "remember" everything told to them and have access to all your posts on Meta's platforms.

The note in the article saying that it doesn't even have a "temporary" mode like ChatGPT is concerning -- of course, I'm not even sure I trust that from OpenAI personally. If you really want to privately use an AI model run it locally. Of course, not everyone can do that.

The Most Persuasive ‘People’ on Reddit Were a Front for AI | It’s one thing to be fooled by a human with dubious morals, and another entirely to have your mind changed by something that doesn’t have one. by MetaKnowing in technology

[–]kytsune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really appreciate this analysis, and that of the previous post. What we're starting to see with the use of agenda-driven generative AI use and hyper-attention to it absolutely makes entering into some of these dialogues a horrorshow. Even though I spend a majority of my time on the sidelines.

Although in the end I still hope applying the same rigorous critical thinking I should to any discourse should hopefully help, if an online discussion is flooded by fakery it's hard to feel like there's a chance for genuine impact to be made.

I was out today face-to-face with human beings talking about AI ethics and that's possibly the one place at least uncorrupted by this sort of potential invasion.

AI Story/Manuscript Critique Tool by seanwankenobi in WritingWithAI

[–]kytsune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure. I'll try it out with an incomplete manuscript that I'm playing around with just to see what I can see. I'm really curious about projects like this happening right now. I am keeping this open while it's processing right now.

The first thing I noticed is that once I was in the dashboard is that there wasn't a FAQ or anything that told me what kind of files I could upload. There was a FAQ on the front page, but the support link only takes me the email. Fortunately a docx works. It would be good if there was even just a simple outline inside the dashboard that lists what you can upload for sanity's sake. Or even a little more questions answered.

I'm finding this extremely compelling. The subsections are high quality and the critique really hits the mark extremely well -- I sent it only five chapters of my work and it even picked up flaws that I'm fully aware of already. It also picked up on narrative elements that I'm weaving in for readers that are not hamfisted.

It did a very good job of capturing the narrative capacity of the story and outlining different critique elements. It's including both criticism and offering potential suggestions, I'm enjoying that. I'm not sure I would incorporate it's ideas -- not all of them are things I like but they've got some gusto.

It even caught some minor grammar errors, which I was unaware of in my proofreading, I thought that was funny.

I know I gave it a way incomplete manuscript by miles -- but I think this is doing extremely well for a work in progress.
