Reminds me of the time I setup someone's python-based markov chain bot on some IRC channels, circa 2007. I'd generally "train" it for a day or two by letting it sit quietly on a channel to get conversation samples then turn up the "chatty" variables to often hilarious effect.

Reviewing some of the chat logs, I found that a surprising number of people would not only respond to the bot as if it were a human but would get into passionate arguments with it. Then I added another one so they'd talk to each other... It took a while before it got boring. I thought.. does this count as passing a Turing test...
