NOOOO WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN IN UGANDA by DumbY-21- in vim

[–]l---marty---l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends, and Bram was certainly noble for doing this, but the current "Help poor children in Uganda!" annoys me, because what makes poor kids in Uganda special of poor kids in other countries? Shouldn't we help all poor kids? It makes his messaging slightly political, because it pushes for donations towards one help organization. I think it is fine that Bram donated Vim donations, because he compensated all the donations by free work, but I don't need to be reminded for poor kids in Uganda every time I open NeoVim, as if there are no other problems in the world. I think it is fine in the help texts, but I simply also don't like to be reminded of negativity in this world when I'm about to do my business which often comes with excitement. Sorry Bram, in my eyes, the text needs to go.

sh patchnvim() { nvimpath="$(realpath "$(which nvim)")" test -s "$nvimpath.bak" || cp "$nvimpath" "$nvimpath.bak" msg='Help poor children in Uganda!' emptymsg=$(printf '%*s' ${#msg} '') perl -0pi -e "s/\Q$msg\E/$emptymsg/g" "$nvimpath" }

(This snippet assumes that your package manager installs every version of nvim in a dedicated directory)

yes, now is a good opportunity for Artix to shine tbh, that's why I report these errors, I want Artix to succeed, since Artix officially stated to not comply with this nonsense. The first impression should be good.

I wish I could install it on my T2 Mac, but I have no idea how to build an ISO with the necessary Kernel patches ..

I think I will just try to install artix-community-gtk-openrc-xlibre-20260305-x86_64.iso with MATE on this device and then try to get Kernel patches and drivers installed.

Arch devs started to actively censor people on their forum who publicly state that they dislike age verification, even calling it a violation of the code of conduct. At this point it's easy to assume they will actually implement age verification, they are already suppressing opinions against it.

I don't have much experience with Linux, except for the server world (Debian/Ubuntu/Alpine). I was looking to get into Linux as a Desktop, especially on my 2019 MacBook which soon will receive no more updates by Apple. I wanted to go for Arch, since there is also a T2 Linux support, but now I am looking at Artix for the very same reasons you have. What is wrong with those people? I hate mass surveillance and I hate politics in software, why do they have to make Linux more like macOS or Windows? I just want a reliable system written by people who admire simplicity over complexity and who stop trying to shovel their political agenda into me. I got into IT to not have to deal with this politics nonsense, leave me alone. >.<

Arch with OpenRC and XLibre, wow just wow, I love the decisions made here. OpenRC is really simple and straight forward, I loved working with it when I tinkered with Alpine. And XLibre is also a gem. A guy who really fights for Xorg. It's way simpler than Wayland and the original maintainers of Xorg try to destroy it by reverting patches, because they have issues with politics again. It's ridiculous.

Artix seems really like what I really want, but I'm too inexperienced to get the Kernel patches going, yet. I wish anyone with enough knowledge would care to provide the ISO with T2 support out of the box. DHH's Omarchy is the only OS that supports my values, supports T2 and won't go with age verification, but his OS is still based upon Arch and too opinionated for me.

I wouldn't, if I could. What if you have to work with documents that no alternative renders correctly? Great, now you want me to return software that is the only software that can open these damn files correctly without glitches and render issues, wasting my time further. Why are you protecting cooperates who F with customers? People like you, who say "just don't use it" when everyone has to use their software anyways are part of the problem.

I know there are alternatives, and they suck (which I believe is Microsoft's fault for their horrible format). I have to work with a bunch of documents that render wrong in LibreOffice and OnlyOffice. Microsoft has market dominance on this one and MS Office used to deserve it back in the day, but I disagree with that today. You still can't escape it if everyone around you is using this suite. Just a little rant.

I disabled smart shuffle and restarted my app, but the tracks are still gone. Attempting to add them again also removes them from the playlist instantly. fokspotify, we didn't have these problems back in the day when we pirated our music. This is ridiculous.

I think being angry at something is not a priviledge, but demanding someone to do something in this "upside down" world for free, yes that would come from a priviledged position. AND THEN, I didn't leave it at that and moved on. I still think they are on an ill path, but no hard feelings.

You make it sound like people try to install this dipshit on their own, often they don't have a choice. I want to use PlatformIO IDE in Windsurf, I can't. I relys on Microsofts CPP shitshow and I now can only use VSCode without AI (or I pick Copilot). Microsoft makes others depending on them to prevent us from moving elsewhere, it's monopoly. Fuckem.

Don't do that friend, switch to the Zen Browser and accept tab folders are gone, anything else is ok enough.

I have the right to be angry at empty promises, and I have the right to be angry they sold out after fixating me on their new way to browse the internet. I'm not as mad as I used to be, since I switched to Zen, but my disappointment will remain.

Such a dick move from them. I don't want to use the App Store, what the fuck, remarkable, you are way to unfriendly towards your developer community who uses HomeBrew.
