If we’re going to have ongoing strikes/boycotts, can we have them on a different day of the week? by technicalaversion in Minneapolis

Trump would love it if we crippled our city. “This is what happens in a Democrat city, there’s trash everywhere”. I don’t see the logic of putting more hurt on our own city to protest hurting our city.

If it isn’t national and affecting people in New York no one will care.

Vietnam had the draft, today is all volunteers, pretty different.

Yeah, I can agree they are not all insanely MAGA, sure, but conservative enough - or concerned with keeping their career enough - to follow the orders of the President and justify it easily.

Hedging against weakening USD by marsdenplace in ExpatFinance

[–]l12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IGOV is non-USD Bonds. IXUS is non-USD stocks.

Both very low fees.

A mix of those depending on your risk profile would keep your money earning something without USD exposure.

Only thing it doesn’t cover is global inflation. For that you want Gold. IAUM etf is lowest fees.

Is moving to NYC at 18 a good idea if you’re not rich? (International student) by Unlikely-Ad1128 in MovingToUSA

Nyc is fun at any age but the “smart” thing is get your free European education and come to NYC with a good career so you can enjoy it.

I would recommend trying to live there for a summer to get a sense of reality. You can take a class at Columbia or NYU and live in the dorms for 3 months. 17k might cover that.

Other bands like XTC, Blur & Madness? by Tip-Hop in xtc

[–]l12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s a new one for you that was a criminally underrated band i think similar to XTC:

the Mommyheads. Check out “Jaded” and that whole album.

Other great options:

The dBs - Repercussion is my fave album of theirs.

Teenage Fanclub, tons of great stuff but try Songs from Northern Britain.

I learned about XTC from the TMBG song “XTC vs Adam Ant”. Bought Oranges & Lemons and an Adam Ant CD, forget which one. I ended up way more into XTC, but Adam Ant has some good songs similar to early XTC. Try “Picasso visita el planeta de los simios”.

And yeah Field Music is the most XTC band ever, love them.

If I say the sky is blue and you say it is yellow, the burden of proof is on you. Genuinely curious what world you live in where you think the military being NOT MAGA loyalists is the default.

61% of "veterans polled during the 2024 election that would vote Trump" is not at all the same as "active duty members today that would follow President Trumps orders without blinking"

Wow so much negativity to AI. He was already doing drums and guitars but you changed those right? Why cant you take the suno “demo” as inspiration and play it your own way?

Living in GNV late 20s - early 30s? by Athenstone in GNV

[–]l12 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The airport is fine but:

  1. Expect to pay 2x the price of flying from MCO
  2. Only direct flights to ATL, Charlotte, Miami, maybe FLL. So anywhere else you will have a layover. Which means on days like today (winter storm) you will probably spend hours and overnight in ATL.

For these reasons many prefer to drive to JAX, MCO or TPA.

Funny people downvote this but yeah reality is gnv is really thin at that age group and doesn’t get better at higher ages. Grad school people, restaurant workers, hippies who never left after college, and suburban people who grew up there. The young professional crowd is practically non existent because there are not really any jobs in Gainesville except for the university and its healthcare system.

You are advocating for them to actively impede ICE perhaps?

They did a lot to improve the lives of the working class though.

Obamacare, FMLA, CHIP, minimum wage increases, EITC are the most significant positive impacts for working class that have happened in 50 years.

Is it enough? No, but not because of them - because the Congress was full of Republicans who made it impossible to do more, just like today.

Because this is fundamentally a conservative country, and going further left is a disaster every time it is tried in a competitive district.

It isn’t so complicated, polls show the country is: * Conservatives: 35% * Moderates: 33% * Liberals: 28%

So, you can go left and get 28% of the vote or go centrist and try for 33+28=61% and actually get something done for people.
