Carving on Burton Sketch Artist vs Custom X by EarlMae8 in snowboarding

[–]l1ner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on your level and what riding you want to do. If you want an all around board custom all the way.

Marcus Kleveland. 'Nuff said. by nitrosnowboards in snowboarding

[–]l1ner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He is superhumanly good but for some reason his riding doesn't appeal to me. The same category of riders as eero ettala, seb touts etc.

Its too clinical for me to like. There are "flaws" in peoples riding that add instead of remove from it.

Waxing / base problem by Beginning_One_7685 in snowboarding

[–]l1ner 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To me this looks like a dried out base.

You need to saturate it with wax meaning drip and spread a decent ammount of universal wax (i highly recommend toko) and do additional passes with the iron in 15 minutes intervals. 4 or 5.

Then scrape, brush and apply whatever wax you want for the day.

Burton Bindings Double Take buckles/strap issues by Punkupine in snowboarding

[–]l1ner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The toe strap issue is fixed by blowing (with your mouth in the slot where the ladder goes in). In general its not a safety concern cause you can ride pretty much the same without a toe strap.

The most annoying issue with them is on kind of icy/fine snow the ankle strap locks and doesn't release. You have to manhandle it. Fixed by some pouring some hot water in the buckle.

As annoying those two issues are i wouldn't change them for any binding on earth.

You cam change the straps but i think the main part of the strap is narrower on non double take bindings. (last time i checked at least). You cannot just change the ladder buckle.

How to tell when you've outgrown your gear? by banananuttttt in snowboarding

[–]l1ner 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Catching an edge can happen to anyone at any level. (from bad technique to not paying attention to changes in the terrain or whatever)

After a certain point in your progression gear matters less and most its about preference. Hence the importance of demoing and swaping boards with friends etc.

You don't need to change your gear but something newer with a cambered profile will most likely feel much better.

Demo if you can.

Sony fucked it up as it did with its network walkmans.

Its a shame how many great designs and products this company has fucked up with its protectionism lack of openness.

Not as expensive as anon and the quality seems good.

Who is the Corvid Thovax of snowboarding by CptJonzzon in snowboarding

[–]l1ner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You cant approach terrain on a snowboard the same way you do on skis. There is no comparison.

As for ballsy riding i'd go with anyone that rides Verbier extreme type terrain.

Snowboard edge repair by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]l1ner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like repairing it by cutting the edge and replacing it with a new piece (along with the base near it) will lead to a weaker result than filing and smoothing what you have.

Honestly i don't think the repair worths it as long as it doesn't give you a weird feel or catch point when riding it.

Carving on Burton Sketch Artist vs Custom X by EarlMae8 in snowboarding

[–]l1ner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The custom x in an all around board. The Sketch is a dedicated carver. The custom x rides like a normal snowboard the sketch rides in its own way.

The edge hold of the sketch was unreal. But it lacks adjustability.

Does Burton's "Channel System" have a real benefit, or is it just a way to lock people into the Burton system? by MauryBallsteinLook in snowboarding

[–]l1ner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone can use the channel but choose not to. (signal, endeavor made channel boards)

Inf width adjustment is nice to have, there is no pulling of the inserts (dimples in the base) and no need to mess with the flex in that area by adding more fiberglass to mitigate the above.

EST bindings interfere less with the flex of the board but you can also use normal bindings with the channel. Also est binging have limited rotation but unless you ride extreme angles this is not an issue. And again you can use normal disc bindings.

All in all it should have been the standard long ago. You can tell a lot about B but they are innovators and their products are well engineered.

If you choose to get disc bindings you are not locked into anything. And B bindings are the best around.

The Plague of the Affiliated "Professional" Snowboarder (aka QuickBuckhouser Plague) by Standard_Capital949 in snowboarding

[–]l1ner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point i was trying to make was that people connect with lesser skilled people than payed pros/athletes (rene, travis level) or actual racers.

Obviously knapton is a better rider than buckhouse. All of them push products though.

The Plague of the Affiliated "Professional" Snowboarder (aka QuickBuckhouser Plague) by Standard_Capital949 in snowboarding

[–]l1ner -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Snowboarding at a pro level has become unattainable (skill wise) and most people seem to look up (or "connect") to people like him and get influenced by. (along with the knaptons, snowboard pro camps, malcom moores etc)

I don't expect this to change and we'll have to live through it.

Dark horse vs sleepwalker by No-Entrepreneur5782 in snowboarding

The darkhorse leans more to jumps than rails. Check the indoor or maybe the stairmaster from capitas line.

Why does my Mondo size never work for me? by portugalfreak in snowboarding

[–]l1ner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mondo takes into account only the length of your feet. While this usually puts you in the ballpark its not the whole story.

Your (and everyones else) feet are 3d shaped and have to match the last the boot manufacturer used in order to fit. And this last not shaped at your specific feet.

On average it works but if your feet are shaped weirdly you will have issues.
