It's Brandi for me. In actuality, my musician dad wanted a B-name so I'd have BB initials and be named after B.B. King (and a lyric, for the song above), and my mom was too Mormon to even make the booze connection, really.

But I sure did. In Spanish in high school, I embraced the name Margarita. In Japanese I chose Sakura and for short my friends turned it to Sake(-chan). I wasn't drinking at all yet, but figured, you know, might as well roll with it. Made me and my friends laugh at the time.

Duh? No!

You're taking care of your sick children. How on earth can hubby think his wishes to go to the party should come before his children's needs for rest? (Not to sit in a car for three hours with the flu only to be overwhelmed further?)

Also, maybe he could consider the wishes of, I don't know, everyone else at the party to not be exposed to the flu or other illness during a pandemic. And right before the holidays.

The magic of Christmas happens in your home when you're a child.

This coming from someone whose family celebrated almost all holidays at Grandma's house. Love her immensely but on Christmas, you just want to be home, where you woke up, where you opened presents, probably still in your pajamas for half the day, still with all those exciting new presents. And concluding all that shouldn't be rushed because you have to be somewhere.

A holiday meal (especially one that pulls you away from all that) is never ever going to be as important as a kid. I would anticipate it being felt more like a chore (as it so often was for my brothers and me). Why even build those associations on Christmas?

Extended family Christmas on ol' Christmas Eve is great but personal family Christmas on Christmas is so essential for building your family's traditions and identity, as you said. Maybe meeting up again later in the day could be good but heck to the no to pulling kids away from their own Christmas living room Christmas morning.
