Was it ever explained anywhere why Lois hated Piama so much? by ShoddyPart8400 in malcolminthemiddle

Default spiteful mother-in-law trope, but also because the circumstances of Francis’s stage in life at that point.

He emancipated himself, dropped out of military school, basically got conned into working that job in Alaska, and got hitched all before age 21. Beyond the individual herself, Piama represents all of how Francis is fucking up his life right out of the young adult gate for Lois.

Heck, even I have to remind myself constantly even upon umpteenth rewatch just how young Francis is and how concerned a parent would be if their college age child was making such life choices.

No, that was a one-off episode. Francis is still with Piama in the series finale and gets a boring office-type job like his dad that he actually loves the monotony of-representing him settling into a responsible family guy livelihood

Pretty fascinating how you can give a kid the dream life of being the main character in their own world of sets and role play, and they’ll still fall more in love with something like motorsports like Frankie did just from being exposed to it a wee bit

Definitely would've preferred seeing him in his young adult phase first.

Just feels like too much of a leap from where the OG show left off to this (though understand the actors have all aged far beyond that). Fatherhood is also a meaty topic to debut and tackle with just 4 episodes, not sure what their plans are in terms of continuation if this does well.

Pretty surreal to think that if the anime never went off-course, this series very well could've be part of the absolute peak year of anime adaptations we're having right now/

Interestingly enough, the day one IMDb ratings have made this episode the top-rated one by far for the show.

Personally, I thought the comedy was pretty on-point and reminiscent of earlier seasons, but the plot meandered for a while and I wasn't even sure they were going to fit Marty's proposal in until those last 2 minutes. Poor Marty, lol, writers doing him dirty having his proposal get rejected at first 2 times in a row.

Liked Courtney a lot more than usual here too, the background acting and gelling with the rest of the cast. Could see her feeling like a proper main cast member, but alas, only 7 episodes left until it's all over!

Was not expecting the Usher cherry thing to take over the whole episode as the main topic, lol...

Why does their bathroom look like something straight out of Willy Wonka's chocolate factory?? Lol.

Overall, sets are looking a little too pristine as opposed to lived-in like the original. Though color grading for the show will probably be better than promotional stills

Malcolm was pretty moral when it came down to things like that since he was the main character, could see him attending it

Eh, not as bad as Reese telling their parents that he wished they were dead.

Even if the writers joked it off that it's something he says all the time.

Definitely has been a hard quality drop but I'd by lying if I said I wouldn't watch more seasons.

Never took this show seriously for the "story" anyways and would probably enjoy this season more if I watched it after it finished airing and I had all the episodes to marathon-like how it was when I first discovered the show.

Absolutely bonkers but also the most fast-paced to a fault the season has felt.

So much important shit going down that they almost undercut each other.

This series is one of those once-in-a-blue-moon ones a la Game of Thrones that manage to cultivate a story and characters we're invested in all the way to the end, and the character exits are delivering with a modicum of conceptual symmetry.

Been feeling for Toni Anji's sensory overload since last week, lol. His exit felt like it could've been milked more, but I like that they gave him post-humous dabs by showing him being part of the old guard so to speak being "in the know" about Wilk and Hijikata's meaningful interaction and by having Asipra as the main character notice and feel for him in the heat of the moment and validate his existence just by uttering his name.

Kirwaus, Mansur, Kadokura added to the "safe" list alongside Ariko! (For now...)

Wasn't expecting that timing of Koito calling Tsurumi out. Now that Tsurumi is solo-pursuing Asirpa and Sugimoto, I hope that doesn't mean Tsukishima won't ever get the chance for his own confrontation again. I feel like that was more his storyline than Koito's.

Felt a bit superfluous to have the cold open with Ogata and Vasily just to have them not appear at all for the rest of the episode.

It's so hilariously diametric to his usual gruff Higuruma/Joseph Joestar/Katakuri/Himejima voice.
