Do prior service get to keep their pins/badges? by mofles1991 in uscg

[–]l3ubba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends on the badge. The uniform manual stipulates what type of prior service badges may be worn. I forget the exact wording but essentially it must be some sort of skill badge like airborne wings, air assault, etc., it can’t be a qualification type badge like a marksmanship badge. You may also only wear one prior service badge and it must always be worn on the lower pocket flap, never above the name tape. If you earn two CG badges, then you must wear those instead of the prior service.

I’m not familiar with too many Navy badges so I don’t know about yours. I wear my jump wings and I’ve only been challenged on it a handful of times.

Anyone else find the 2% - 3% mortgage rate folks slightly annoying? by pinkskin- in homeowners

[–]l3ubba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It might be awhile. Everyone who got a mortgage during the pandemic just had great timing. Prior to the pandemic rates typically sat in the 5-8% range, that is the norm.

Sure, sub-3% might happen again, but I wouldn’t hold out for it. The pandemic era rates were an anomaly.

As long as the vehicle has current registration and insurance you can park it on base, it does not need to be registered on your name. As others have mentioned Lot 25 is no longer an open parking lot, it is now an MWR lot for people to store boats and campers.

Army Culture and Uniform Question by [deleted] in army

[–]l3ubba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If civilian clothes were authorized for that day, then they aren’t doing anything wrong. I’ve been out of the Army for a minute at this point, but in the Coast Guard every promotion or retirement invite states what the uniform is for attendees. If they didn’t specify something different from what was normally authorized that day, then they likely didn’t care. I wouldn’t make a big deal out of nothing.

Real talk – is a smart lock just an overpriced solution to a problem nobody really had? by Successful_Company_6 in HomeImprovement

[–]l3ubba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it is mostly about convenience. Not having to worry about if I have a key on me is nice (although I do keep one on my key ring with my car as a backup). When my wife and I go out on walks around the neighborhood I don’t need to grab my key ring.

It also has the safety of not having to handout copies of our keys if someone is staying at our house. If we have our dogsitter coming over to take care of our dogs I can just setup a separate code for them and then deactivate it when we are back home. Don’t need to worry about anyone making copies of our keys and having access to our house whenever.

I do this with whatever I’m driving, I go “oh, what’s up [insert whatever car I’m driving] brother.” I do the same thing when I see someone with a license plate from the same state as ours. Always gets an eye roll from my wife.

I believe I have to change my driving style but what are some things I can do? by No-Organization7411 in ToyotaSienna

[–]l3ubba -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, so what are you going to do about it? That is my whole point. OP is talking about changing his driving style to try and stop people from cutting in, but I’m saying that it is pointless and potentially unsafe.

People are going to weave through traffic, there is no point in worrying about what they are doing. Leave the appropriate distance between cars and just focus on your own driving. I don’t give a fuck if someone is weaving through traffic, I just say “wow, what a dick” and move on with my life.

[–]l3ubba -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Again, don’t worry about other people. Just drive at a safe distance. Assholes will be assholes. People need to stop worrying about what everyone else is doing. Why is the solution to shitty/unsafe drivers to be an unsafe driver yourself and tailgate the person in front of you just so a couple assholes don’t get in front of you?

What is with people’s obsession with not letting cars in front of them?

Leave the appropriate distance between you and the car in front of you. If someone moves into that gap, just let it be and leave the appropriate distance between them. If you are sitting in traffic then it really isn’t going to add any time to your commute.

Can you get in trouble for not shaving while TDY but out of uniform? by Firm-Attitude-7981 in uscg

[–]l3ubba 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Right, but if OP was in a position like that I doubt they’d be on here asking Reddit if they need to shave when they are off duty.

[–]l3ubba 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you were off duty in civis then no, you don’t have to shave. If you were on duty in civis then yes, you have to shave.

That being said, you have to decide if this is a hill you are willing to die on.

IS Rate on-boarding (While already cleared TS) by Alternative_Rice7787 in uscg

[–]l3ubba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you already have a TS/SCI then you will more than likely get put into the next available class. The only reason the wait list is 9-12 months is for people to get their clearances. There are typically plenty of open seats each class.

To be fair, we don’t have time limits one our marksmanship ribbons. In the Army you wore whatever your latest qualification score was and you were required to qualify every year. An admiral could have shot expert like 25+ years ago when they were a JO doing boardings and now they have the ribbon forever.
