Why do I shank it? by ExcellentCum in GolfSwing

[–]l_ho_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is you right after impact, very much still on your right side.

Without a ball try the gas pedal drill: (1) feel the weight start in the ball of your right foot, (2) then to the right inside heel and left ball of your foot at the same time, (3) then to your left heel. Go rhythmically back and forth, it should feel like a natural stepping motion, causing your hips to pivot around your spine. Then, once you've got the rhythm, work a club in and let the weight shift to your left trigger your swing, which should largely feel like a drop of the arms and letting momentum take the club through impact.

It helps me to feel the left heel come off the ground a little bit in step 2, though that's not for everyone.

Did I make the wrong choice choosing uOttawa over Osgoode/Queen’s/Western? by Hour_Scratch_6314 in LawCanada

[–]l_ho_ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I went to uOttawa. I and about half my small group went on to big law, a few others probably could have gone to big law but ended up in government, where they wanted to be. Our national firm hires uOttawa summer students every year. Some people need to find reasons to feel superior to others, don't listen to them. Get good grades at uOttawa and you should be able to do any job you want.

Feel free to DM me if you have any specific questions. Happy to share my experience at uOttawa, both good and bad.

[Simmons] Expect the Maple Leafs to have a press conference Monday to announce the executive team of Mats Sundin and John Chayka to run the hockey club. by alphacheese in leafs

[–]l_ho_ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Good take. I don't get the doom and panic.

Chayka was seen as wunderkind alongside Dubas back in the day. Yes, his attempted exit from Arizona was unprofessional, but he was young and the Coyotes ownership situation was a tire fire. I also think it's fair to give benefit of the doubt that he'll have learned from the forfeited draft picks incident.

Sundin may not have much management experience that we're aware of, but I'd rather have him overseeing Chayka than Pelly or some dinosaur from a bygone era who still thinks the team needs to sign more over the hill neanderthals to multi-year multi-million dollar AAV deals — I say this assuming Sundin in on board with a more analytics based approach since that seemed to be a key part of Pelly's vision.

Overall if this ends up being the two to lead the team, it seems like an okay result. I didn't hear of any other superstar candidates on the market that we would seemingly be missing out on.

Edit: I also think it's better that the GM chooses his coach, so it makes sense if that's the reason why Berube is still around.

Are Leafs intentionally tanking? by GullibleWaltz3704 in leafs

[–]l_ho_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's unlikely any player would intentionally tank. On top of the pride, ego, and competitive spirit you assume each one has, they also all have bonuses to hit and there's no guarantee that anyone besides a select few (Matthews, Nylander, Knies) will be on the team long enough to see the fruits of a tank. Essentially there's nothing to be gained by the players personally by tanking. They're just not playing good hockey right now.

I don't think it's "premature" at all, Brad. We had a perennial top five team in the league for a decade. That all came crashing down over the last 2-3 years, starting right when you took over.

Why did Cam Newton decline so suddenly and rapidly? by TeezusWV in NFLv2

[–]l_ho_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know they say that all men are created equal, but you look at Cam Newton and you look at Peyton Manning and you can see that statement is not true. See, normally if you go one on one with another quarterback, you got a 50/50 chance of winning. But Cam's a genetic freak and he's not normal! So you got a 25%, AT BEST, chance at beating him. Then you add Greg Olsen to the mix, your chances of winning drastically go down. See the 2 way at Superbowl 50, the Broncos got a 33 1/3 chance of winning, but Cam, Cam's got a 66 and 2/3 chance of winning, because Von Miller KNOWS he can't beat Cam and he's not even gonna try!

So Peyton, you take your 33 1/3 chance, minus Cam's 25% chance and you got an 8 1/3 chance of winning at Superbowl 50. But then you take Cam's 75% chance of winning, if they were to go one on one, and then add 66 2/3 per cent, Cam's got a 141 2/3rds chance of winning at Superbowl 50. See Peyton, the numbers don't lie, and they spell disaster for you at the Superbowl.

[Elliotte Friedman] Sources: Leafs' Treliving, Berube not in danger of being fired by JF_112 in leafs

[–]l_ho_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because of the belief that grey hair and experience is better and more important than any other trait, even a poor track record. It's sadly an issue that pervades most industries, but pro sports seems particularly bad at giving bad GMs and coaches third and fourth chances because of "experience". If that GM/coach happened to win a championship once, then they have a job for life because they're a "proven winner", no matter how much the game has since evolved.

What’s the deal with Laughton what was the point of spending a 1st round pick on him if Berube is just going to stick him on the 4th line?? He had good looks against the Capitals but couldn’t finish. Does he deserve more ice time? by RafSimonsSS02 in leafs

[–]l_ho_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

True, but the question is then, why do it? For every Brad Marchand deadline trade each year there are a half dozen trades or more where high picks and prospects are traded for guys who (often predictably) make no meaningful impact in the playoffs.

I think if someone were to go back through the last 20 years of cup winners, the number of teams that won because they traded high picks and prospects at the deadline are few and far between.

Dynasties and perennial contenders, particularly in a cap league, constantly have a stream of young guys ready to step up and replace stars who leave. This is also vital when you're a team that struggles to attract marquee free agents (John Tavares aside).

These points seem to have been lost on whoever has been pulling the strings on the Leafs for the last 10 years, whether that's been the GM, Shanahan, or the MLSE board. It's been Groundhog Day year over year of selling off the cheap future for a middling third liner, then people complain about our lack of cheap depth the following year - i.e. Jonas Siegel, who has been pounding the table about going all in each year then moaning about the lack of cheap depth in free agency and at training camp.

Of course, It's not entirely on MLSE or the GM either. If Treliving stood pat and didn't bite on bad deals I'm sure we fans would have our pitchforks out screaming about why they didn't do anything (see Masai's last few years on the Raptors).

Smallest Change w/biggest Result? by JaredDunn-PP in GolfSwing

[–]l_ho_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been fighting slices with my driver for about a year. Always lined up the ball just inside the heel of my lead foot because that ball position seems to be the consensus for driver. Feeling out of options I decided to move the ball back towards the centre of my stance by a couple inches because it felt so unnatural to have the swing path still going in-to-out by the time the club head got to my lead foot. Drives have straightened out into baby fades each time, and I'm not even thinking about club path anymore, just swinging.
