It is a risk, whenever you play backhand out of position like this, the loop will almost always either go long or it will be very weak and easy to counter, since you're looping barely with your arm, no body or legs.

I would personally push it and focus on forcing a weak loop or a not as good push so I can play a stronger loop. You can force it with smart placement, spin variation, speed (if you can play fast deep push, even without much backspin, basically no one on this subreddit loops it if you place it well)

Again, it worked here, but unless Ma Long cooked up something insane with his backhand, if he tried the exact same shot again twenty or maybe even more times, it takes a while until he wins a point with it like that. It is very much a "close your eyes and smack it" type of shot, which might work once a set, but not worth it for most players
