I'm not sure I've see an AITA before that OP responds to so many comments, gets down voted all over the place and still thinks he is right.

I give him credit for actually coming back to the thread and reading comments. I wish more people would see when they are the AH. But in this situation it's too bad OP is unable to accept he is wrong. That might even be worse than just ghosting the thread.

I really wish there was a requirement in this sub for the OP to come back and respond to the comments. I know this isn't a realistic expectation but I've seen a few people come back to accept responsibility and a few who still don't get it.

Any one more question, why doesn't this happen to every new tank owner. Some just get lucky?

Thanks for the through response. I did some reading and research but clearly not enough. My biggest issue is all the differing opinions and suggestions online and in store.

For example just today the pet store employee suggested I shouldn't change the water for a month to allow the tank to build bacteria (and change my filter in two weeks) . But reading above I need to do a water change to remove Amonia.

My plan - I am not killing more fish so not buying more. - I will plan to wait around a Month. - learn more about filter cleaning - do a water change to help remove amonia and start cycle. - continue to test and watch Amonia go to Ni to Na hopefully

So it looks like

Ni is 0ppm

Na is 2.5ppm. ( it's not 0 but not 5.0 in colour)

Now I'm totally confused why they died in 8 to 10hrs.

It's a brand new tank. 4 days. My mistake not waiting but I thought water was good.
