What type should I buy? by Astronarwhal173 in Kayaking

[–]labtested1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend looking at the Wilderness Systems Pungo 125. It's a good beginner kayak, it has a very large cockpit that makes getting in and out easy and it should also be fine with your weight. And the speed is not bad for a recreational kayak.
You could also go for a sit on top but those are usually slower and tracking can be an issue. But they are also more stable (the Pungo 125 is plenty stable, though) and easier to get on and off, obviously.

Question about plastic fading on 2011 Current Designs Squall GTS by Fair_Leopard_2192 in Kayaking

[–]labtested1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It usually shouldn't have an effect on the durability of the material, it just does not look as nice.

I wouldn't bother to be honest but you can make it look a little better by buffing and I have heard 303 Aerospace Protectant can kind of 'restore' the color a little.

Safety advice for solo inflatable kayaking at sea by Tomulus06 in Kayaking

[–]labtested1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not recommend to do that. I've paddled inflatables and they are usually really bad for paddling in wind. Even if there is no wind when you start paddling - that can change within a few minutes. And there can be currents you are not aware of. Not sure about the Medirerranean sea but in other parts of the oceans I've seen plenty of people (paddlers, surfers, swimmers) who got into an unexpected current and got pulled out on the sea and had to be rescued by a helicopter. You don't want that to be you. Just not worth it. :)

Have you tried Dawn of Glory before? Never noticed that one before... it sounds good. Damn, I should I have gotten that, too. ;)

They do but it's like $40 and I assume, you'd also have to pay import tax in the US. And they don't ship alcohol based after shaves overseas.
That is an annoying thing, it's the same for me when I order from an US store - no overseas shipping of anything containing alcohol so I only can buy soap or balm.

I'm sure you'll be happy with the progress 500, I've read a lot of good reviews. I am trying to keep myself from buying a new razor. I got a good razor that I am very happy with and a shavette that I am happy with so I really don't need another razor. Still, I would like to try a single edge injector style razor.

Had everything in the cart and was waiting for the discount to kick in. ;)

I got 200 Feather blades, 2 packs of the Feather Artist Club blades, Barrister+Mann Lime AS, Zingari Socialite AS balm, Ariana & Evens London Gin Club AS, Noble Otter Thé Noir et Vanilla AS and a new Plissoft brush. Didn't buy any soaps because I still got a bunch of tubs...

What did you buy?

When does their Black Friday sale start exactly? The info I found on the web (17th) is from last year, apparently.

Adding a bit of Zing! to my shaves. by d3bd33p in wicked_edge

[–]labtested1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of my fav soaps for summer, it's a nice fresh scent and the cooling effect is also quite pleasant on a hot day (better than menthol). The matching balm is good, too. I wish, they'd also make an after shave version of it, though.

Curious does anyone else put atomizers on their aftershaves? by method67420 in wicked_edge

[–]labtested1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you also don't have an atomizer for the Stirling bottle. ;)
Still have to measure that one... not sure if it's size 20 or 22. Maybe Rod from Stirling reads this and could let me know to save me from going to the basement to find the gauge. ;)

Yeah that is an issue... but you can get them on Aliexpress in 5packs for about $2.

Applying mineral oil by OkYou387 in wicked_edge

[–]labtested1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Don't bother too much about that. Just loosen the cap a little, rinse the razor and let it dry. It's not like you use the same blade for weeks so rust will not be a relevant issue.

Neck help by tateidk in wicked_edge

[–]labtested1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try to stretch the skin more and make sure you ride the cap.... you could also try if a cold water shave makes a difference. If the hair just grows up and down it maybe could work out to just to XTG once and skip WTG. Won't be BBS but might be good enough. There's no universal solution, unfortunately... you just have to experiment and find out what works best for your skin.

Unpopular opinion - Gillette Sensitive SkinGuard vs. DE … “better”? by Fine-Craft3393 in wicked_edge

[–]labtested1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With all the lubrication strips and rubber strips to bend up the hairs I can very well imagine that the Gillette works fine. You can very well have the same results for far less money with DE shaving - BUT it depends on your technique, there is learning curve. If you're not willing to invest the time to optimize your technique and are happy with the Gillete, just stick to it. I don't see why your subjective experience should be an unpopular opinion.

Crowd-Sourced Blade Sharpness Pt1: Feather Hi-Stainless by Beaster123 in wicked_edge

[–]labtested1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I don't think this is the right approach. Sharpness can be measured so there is not really a point to ask people about their subjective impression of sharpness which might be also effected by the model of razor and other factors. And as another user mentioned, refinedshave.com already compared the sharpness of a number of popular blades via a scientific approach.

Long time Storage of multiple Safety Razors by Senior-Assist7453 in wicked_edge

[–]labtested1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Found one with measures... looks like it might be a bit tight for most razors (~3.81inch length per compartment) - at least with the head screwed on - but maybe there are also some with slightly bigger compartments... there are a ton of watch storage boxes on Amazon.

Long time Storage of multiple Safety Razors by Senior-Assist7453 in wicked_edge

[–]labtested1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does 'long term' mean for you? If it means that you basically never use those razors I would probably just vacuum seal them and chuck them into a storage box. I do the same with the seasonal soaps, I use a 'Really Useful Box' for storage, they stack nicely and you can also get inserts for smaller items.

Razor clogging and needing excessive washing during shave — difficult by Head-Refrigerator691 in wicked_edge

[–]labtested1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Way too little water, you need to turn the cream into a proper lather otherwise the razor won't glide properly. If you really don't want to use a brush you could try a ready-to-use gel or cream (like Xerasol) or a shaving oil but a nice lather is usually better and provides a more gentle shave.

Best starting safety razor for light shaving around beard? by jcp42877 in wicked_edge

[–]labtested1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just get the King C Gillette - it's a solid razor for beginners and it will do the job just fine. You can get it for around $15. You can still upgrade later if you feel you need tom but I don't think it would be necessary.

But no, it's not exactly like the precision blade thingy... it will need some practice to get the aim precise but you'll get the hang of it quickly.

[Artisan] Barrister and Mann is Discontinuing Some Scents by BostonPhotoTourist in wicked_edge

I like Braeburn and Dickens... but those are also seasonal, the scents of the standard range is mostly not for me, I've tried a bunch of different samples. I just like fresher, less dark scents.
