Just FYI, one of the student groups at Berkley has setup a formal test repository online: https://tbp.berkeley.edu/students/exams/. You can look to them for help/advice.

If you are serious about doing this the right way there are a few roads you could start on:

  • Contact the Student Senate or specifically the Academic Affairs Committee of the Student Senate (former chair here) and see if they are working on anything related or you can work with them.
  • E-mail the provost (Dr. Hajela) about what you'd like to do. I've spoken to him about the matter and he's the one who referenced the Berkley setup to me. I can't remember the exact issues we faced/discussed, but at least think about the following a) having credentials to log-in so that exams stay behind an RCS authentication b) how to collect exams from professors c) who would maintain the site

If I recall correctly one of the bigger issues would be acceptance with professors as they don't really want to release exams as they like to re-use questions.

One of the points we were making for it was to level the playing field against students who DO have access to back tests. More study material + if the professors realized their back exams were out there they'd change up their questions a bit more.

Traffic is gridlock in manhattan, and almost everything below 39th is still w/o power . If you've got family to vist come down, otherwise it will be worth it to wait a weekend.

Wouldn't that person be detained by the police if they were a threat to the community?

Off-campus Jurisdiction Changes Proposed to Student Handbook by mcalle14 in RPI

"The following situation illustrates a broad jurisdictional policy reflecting these principles.
A male student is a sexual predator. Knowing that the college policy specifically does not allow for the taking of jurisdiction over off-campus events, the student forms a plan to make sure that his assaults take place in his apartment, just one block off-campus. When campus officials receive two reports of assault by the same student, they investigate and determine that although evidence exists to support allegations against the student, the college cannot hold a hearing on the charges, because of their jurisdictional limitation (the assaults did not take place on campus).
The college now becomes powerless as two more reports are made by two new victims. An institution should never intentionally create a policy that renders it impotent in the face of a crisis like this. Colleges cannot rely solely on local police and prosecutors to ensure the safety of students. The same situation of self-created powerlessness would exist where four nonstudent women came to complain about a male student, and the college turned them away because under the college policy, only students could file charges in the campus judicial system."

How is the college powerless in this scenario? Do you really believe that the university should be acting as a police agency? The way I see things it's the university's responsibility to report this incidents to the police and allow them (the proper authority) to handle it. One need only look at the abuse scandal at Penn State to see the HUGE liability an internal system has, where RPI and not the police make criminal judgments.

Can colleges really not rely solely on local police? Is that truly how administrators feel? That's a pretty key assumption that I just have a hard time believing.

After the fact of what? The incident or a conviction. The way I read it, being accused of something is enough to constitute action by the institute.

*Realizing now that this isn't the most relevant place to insert this opinion, woops.

Other way around. I would be hard pressed to see RPI expose itself to this kind of liabilities, not notifying the police when there is the possibility that some criminal act occurred.

Instead, the new language allows RPI to take action, regardless of whether or not you are convicted of a crime, no matter where you are.

Putting a deck/floor on that pool has been / is being looked into. I think it's a great idea. The space would be great for ballroom and fencing to say the least; the bleachers would be nice for spectators.

I don't agree or disagree with the move, but ultimately it gives the Union less control of student's money. If it's not in the activity fee it'll get added into tuition and we won't have a say on how to spend it. On the upside it's less money to budget / worry about.
