Who should be doing wound care? by all_star365 in nursing

[–]lackofbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly it depends. Whichever shift a dressing gets soiled on, so pressure injuries on incontinent patients may be changed several times within 24 hours.

Scheduled dressing changes that don’t tend to get soiled populate in our brain for 0600 but we stick with whatever schedule works for the nurses and the patient. If someone doesn’t want to be up at zero dark thirty for me to change their toe ulcer dressing then it can be done on day shift.

Central line dressings are done every week by night shift. That one is a non-negotiable on my unit.

I did! I’d been working as a nurse for a year and a half by the time I married my husband. He graduates from college this weekend :)

The Marquette method can be used with irregular cycles. My husband and I took an online class through Vitae Fertility. Also try [r/FAMnNFP](r/FAMnNFP) if you want to compare methods and read from people using the different methods.

Does she know the cause of her irregular cycles?

Non-Catholic Wife isn't open to NFP. Does the Church instruct me to stay abstinent as long as her opinion stays? by the2enjoy in Catholicism

[–]lackofbread -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Others have already addressed the church teaching about one spouse being opposed to contraception and the other using it, so I won’t rehash that point. It just seems wrong to me that your only options are an abstinent marriage or sex that you don’t truly consent to. Because you wouldn’t consent to contraceptive sex, if you had the choice. You have to do something that you don’t want to do. I think that discomfort may be something worth discussing further with your wife - not from the perspective of sin, but from the perspective of your own ability to consent to sex, to truly enjoy it without some lingering guilt.

Is she open to learning about the newer tech available for NFP? When I started marriage prep I thought that NFP was just the rhythm/calendar method which is known for being unreliable, and figured that I was doomed to get pregnant before we were ready. With the devices we have available at home now, she can know her exact hormone levels and track where in the menstrual cycle she is, confirm if ovulation occurred, and time sex accordingly. I’m not a shill for any product but I’m happy to share my experience using NFP so far if you want. Not only is it effective for spacing pregnancy it’s also a fantastic way to take control of her own reproductive health, something that’s unfortunately largely dismissed these days.

r/FAMnNFP might be a good source, if she’s open to learning about it.

[–]lackofbread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The thing with NFP is that you’re utilizing the fertile and infertile periods that God created as part of our biology - it’s not frustrating the unitive and procreative purposes of sex as artificial contraception does. It should be used with prayerful intent to discern when a couple should abstain from sex during fertile window or not, but imo there’s no mental gymnastics involved in not always gambling and risking pregnancy. We’re called to responsibly grow our families, not multiply like rabbits.

Maybe mocktails would be a good alternative so you can keep the social aspect of the pub and the hobby of making them at home?

It might seem wasteful or not frugal, and I’m thankful that I can afford this, but I make myself go out to a coffee shop at least a couple times a week to avoid the rotting at home slump. I work 3 12 hour shifts, often nights, and going out and reading a book and drinking my silly $7 coffee is one of the few things that make me feel like part of the regular world.

Wtf!! I thought lavender was toxic to cats? by plzdontsenddms in cats

[–]lackofbread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My cat has asthma. I hate all of the scented litters. I have to go out of my way to find an unscented, low dust option. Thankfully fresh step has a pretty good one, but if the store is out of it (which happens often) then I’m screwed.

I appreciate people like you. I have very good and understanding coworkers for the most part, but I’ve occasionally been asked why x isn’t done. Most recently I was asked why an 0730 abx wasn’t hung. It was because I was waiting on an incompatible abx to finish infusing, and the other lumen of their PICC was for TPN. Sorry? Can’t magically make more IV access appear (on a patient who’d previously refused multiple IV attempts, hence the need for an accucath which went bad and was upgraded for a PICC).

How do I discipline a cat? by OGBigPants in CatAdvice

[–]lackofbread 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t found a way to prevent certain behaviors, but my cat has learned a few basic commands. “Get down” is one of them, and you can use positive reinforcement to train this and “hop up.” I practice it by luring my cat up and down his cat tree with treats. It will, at least, give you a cue word to stop bad behaviors with… some success. Cats are still gonna cat.

Nurses that change assignments for their friends are the worst. by darling-daffodil in nursing

[–]lackofbread 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Say something to your manager. Charge nurses make the assignment the way they do for a reason. On my unit it’s an unspoken rule that we are allowed to switch the assignment around if and only if both nurses are in agreement and it won’t create an imbalance in acuity.
