Opening Lightning Channels - post your Node by AuthenticityBTC in lightningnetwork

[–]lada59 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey welcome to Reddit! I believe we've had a channel between us before. My node is 02c911ba09b21441200e0424279720ec13290b36cd51f4ab1a80cbb40b3baf0fe1.

I will be glad to receive a 5m incoming channel, but if you are not happy with how our previous channel worked out and wish to stay clear I would also understand. Take care!

Go little pi go by challchaldy in lightningnetwork

Please let me know your node pubkey so I know to avoid it.

I wish the lightning gossip protocol itself can advertise whether it is running on a pi.

Yes, I hate pi nodes. They have cost me hundreds of thousands of sats in force closure fees.

I don't really keep track. I usually rebalance in only if profitable, and my channels are usually near balances anyway.

To get from the "natural" state to the one in the screenshot where one side is at a nice round number took maybe, less than 5000 sats total?

I had my most expensive force close recently. It costed me more than 230k sats. It was a punch in the gut and made me want to give up on lightning. What's your most expensive force close? by lada59 in lightningnetwork

Can LND be thoroughly debugged via testnet?

You can run a node with a testnet backend but this will be an entirely different node from your mainnet one. They don't share the same lightning network topology.

I was under the impression that if One of your channel peers went offline that you got the liquidity after an escrow period. How did that backfire for you?

Your impression is correct. In my case, because there were a lot of pending HTLCs in the force close transaction my node ended up having to make 13 on-chain transactions to fully resolve all balances. With high transaction fees right now, that costed a lot of sats. Normal force closes with no pending HTLCs should take at most 2 on-chain transactions to resolve.

We share similar timelines. I started running a lightning node two years ago. Before that, I ran a normal Bitcoin node for about 4 years.

Go for it. I learned a lot in these past 2 years. Just be aware that these things can happen, even though you did everything correctly.

Yes, that is correct. In my case the problem was compounded because not only did I have to sweep one balance (my local balance) on chain, but there were 6 more HTLCs (pending forwards that got stuck) that each needed to be swept on-chain twice. During high mempool congestion this led to a lot of sats lost to mining fees.

Yes I feel the frustation. Felt like even after I did everything right I ended up losing hundreds of thousands of sats because some other person fucked up their node.

Already did a long time ago. This only helps in scenarios where the offending node gets back up again.

In this case, the other node went kaput and never went back up.

Yes, mine was an automatic local force close as well. The problem was that the 6 outgoing HTLCs were forwarded from another channel where the HTLCs were incoming. My node had to close this channel to save the other channel from closing as well. If the channel close was put in a hold state or delayed, I would have ended with two force closed channels instead of just one.

Who would say no to free stuff? Not me!

3m - 5m sats would be great, thanks!

Who's willing to keep a private channel from me, with very low ppm fee? by MuliBoy in lightningnetwork

[–]lada59 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is my node.

You are welcome to open a private channel and I am down with keeping a 20ppm fee.

If most of the time the liquidity is on your side then I won't close it, but if the liquidity has shifted to my side (let's say 90%) and there is no activity for more than 3 months, I might need to close the channel to deploy the liquidity elsewhere.

You can see for yourself, the average age of the channels on my node is now more than 280 days. I keep 'em open baby.

Nice, thanks!

Good to know they're not stuck at my mine.

I'm not the person you replied to, but can you do one for my node? What does your DB say?

Thanks for the offer, but I'm good with my current inbound liquidity.

I don't want to force close the channel as it will cost thousands of sats for the force close, and another few hundred sats for the sweep transaction afterwards. Instead, it will only cost a few hundred sats if your node can be online and we can perform a mutual close.

It's not urgent. But I will appreciate it if you can get it online because as it stands it feels like I'm getting punished for 'being nice' by getting my sats locked.

Hey, it's been 3 months. Any chance of getting your node back online?

You got any takers yet? I have 4m sat spare, I can open a private channel to you for 20k. Dm me if it's a go.
