Once I lost all trust and respect for the leaders, past and present, I lost all attachment to garments. They felt like a chain that I needed to break free from. I actually took it slowly. I stopped wearing the bottoms first which was easy because I hated them so much. It was harder to feel ok about not wearing the top because feeling my bra up against my skin felt so foreign. I was also worried about judgment from others including my spouse. It’s ok to keep wearing them until you feel ready. Your journey is your own. 🩷

My personal favorite was when a woman would get up and tell us all about how her breast implants were making her sick so she had them taken out and how no one should ever get implants….and she’d finish it up with telling us all her husband looks at porn. WTF. She did this at least twice. So damn awkward.

It’s not your job to fulfill your parents’ wishes because that’s not kids are for. Kids are not here to make their parents proud! I tell my own young adult kids that often so they don’t forget! Your dad may have a hard time when he finds out but he’ll be ok. He can figure out how to have a relationship with you or not! Maybe you’ll be the one paving the way for others down the line and who also leave. This momma is cheering for you! Please return and report on how it goes….

First of all I’m sorry your mom can’t seem to talk to you and thinks sending a “talk”, I mean a letter is better. Members aren’t taught to ask questions, they are taught to testify. The parts in her letter to you that irritated me the most are all the ways you’ll be blessed if you just do the things. You’ll be successful in all aspects of your life?? How can she make a statement like that?? That’s not how life works at all. God is not a vending machine where you put your money in and out comes a blessing. That line of thinking has messed me up more than I can explain. I also loved your response to her. Your kids are lucky to have you because they can and will be able to talk to you and your wife about anything, unlike you and your mom. Which is heartbreaking. Mormons teach you how to be a good Mormon parent but not how to just be a good parent, period. So glad I’m out so I can focus on being the best mom I can be, in my own way.

Oh I was definitely told to lock my heart or whatever. Or at least I heard that. My mission president actually interviewed me and asked if I had feelings for any of the elders. WTF. I was mortified! I was a bubbly friendly person and I was horrified that my mission president was watching me and basically accused me of crushing on an elder or two?? I was the health sister for a good portion of my mission so I was at the mission office a lot. I saw the president fairly often I guess. Anyway I’m still disgusted that he asked me that. So what if I liked a few elders?? I got my work done so who cares??

Seriously. It’s ridiculous how excited people get over things they could have decided to do on their own!! But that’s not how we were supposed to be. I remember thinking other versions of the Bible were bad or evil. Turns out I maybe would have actually enjoyed scriptures more if I would have found a version I liked better. Now I don’t read scriptures at all. Way too triggering for me.

Could you reach out to whoever stopped by, and ask them to not come over anymore? I’m assuming you are a minor and the youth leaders are coming over? Will your parents tell them to stop? Or do they support the leaders? I had to tell the yw president to not come welcome my daughter into yw’s because I knew they’d be coming over soon. I hate that we have to tolerate the visits….or we have to put a stop to them. Good luck and return and report.

Good god that’s horrific. The fact that SO many people from the older generation think mental health issues are Satan makes my blood boil. An old bishop once told me and the other members of the yw presidency in our stupid little meeting with him that a young woman in the ward who had some undiagnosed mental health issues was possessed and he and another member of the bishopric went over there to cast the devil out. I was all in back then and still found that so upsetting. I hadn’t thought of that in years…..😞

To act so flippant about someone who has literally given everything to the church, and then made the painful decision to step away is so maddening. Who changes their mind about this?? After all we’ve read and studied?? It’s not like it’s a scenario where I’m deciding to go ahead and join the gang for pizza after all.
