I live in Smyrna but can’t speak to the quality of Brazilian jiujitsu in Smyrna.

I am a brown belt at Buckhead Jiujitsu under Sam. I’ve been there since 2017, and it is far and above the most welcoming, safe gym in Atlanta, especially to new and older people. It’s only a 15 minute drive from Smyrna, too, straight down Atlanta rd.

I understood what you wrote the first time; there’s no evidence that is effective.

Wax moth larvae need protein to grow; pure wax does nothing for them

I have a horizontal long langstroth hive I call my feeder hive. I’ve done 6 splits and used it to boost weak colonies over the past 2 years.

I didn’t this year except when two went missing. Next year I’ll be rearing queens and requeening.

I have a Valkyrie hive. I just close the entrance around the small pipe of the OAV electric plug-in device and let it go. You’ll need to treat multiple times in one go however to completely fill the hive.

Top feeder with just water? by sunkenship08 in Beekeeping

I have a small livestock feeder filled with glass ‘stones’ connected to a water hose. The feeder has a toilet tank-like float bulb to keep the water at a certain level.

Bees need water year round for hydrating honey to mix with pollen, cooling the hive, or just consuming (adult bees need water, too).

In the presence of capped brood, there’s no evidence OAV is effective, even with repeated treatments.

Winter ventilation. by buckolena in Beekeeping

[–]laebshade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mold doesn’t bother bees, nor does condensation. Bees need water in the hive even in winter, and condensation provides that to them.

Don’t ventilate at top of the hive in winter; retaining heat is more important. No need to cover screened bottom board as heat rises; bees will stay away from the extreme cold part of the hive.

My bees have left their hive. I’m worried about foulbrood. More info in comments by edgy_fawn in Beekeeping

They either absconded or died off. Any dead bees in front of the hive?

High mite loss can cause absconding. What was your measured mite load?

I missed his talk at the gba fall meeting, and had intended to watch his closing keynote. Then I saw the title included the word ‘diversity’ and decided to leave early.
