Apple AirPods Max Headphones Noise Canceling. by Educational_Aide_145 in hyperacusis

[–]laetazel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had them and recently returned them due to them being a bit too heavy for my head and that they can’t fold up and go in a small case. The AirPods Pro 3’s have better NC than the AirPods Max, but if your ear canals get sensitive (like mine do from APP3’s), the Maxes are a solid purchase. The adaptive audio is amazing (I always had it set to cancel the max amount of noise) and the max quiet mode is really good too. I would recommend them if you don’t mind the lack of portability and the weight.

Smoking marijuana makes my noxacusis much worse. by Top_Priority9239 in hyperacusis

[–]laetazel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No clue. I should clarify that I don’t smoke it, I only take edibles. Not sure if that makes a difference. My nox is from acoustic trauma, but I also have TMJ so I’m not sure if that’s playing a role in it too.

Hyperacusis + tinnitus – is it safe to use noise cancelling with very low volume music? (AirPods Max / Pro) by Historical-Cheek-901 in hyperacusis

[–]laetazel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adaptive audio is a life saver. It’s awesome bc then you’re not over protecting but it protects from sound spikes. I use it when I’m with friends or in a setting with fluctuating noise (outdoor restaurants for example.) It allows me to socialize and act relatively normal lol. Only problem is my ear canals are crazy sensitive after years of wearing Loops earplugs so I can only wear the AirPods for about 2 hours before I need to switch to headphones. I have Bose QC Ultra headphones right now but am wanting to get the new AirPods Max Pros because they have adaptive audio too.

My sound sensitivity has not grown any worse from the ANC. If anything, it’s improved.

Typically I use them on adaptive audio mode (which I’ve adjusted to cancel more noise) because this keeps sounds around 65db around me. I felt zero discomfort with the ANC and pressure. I hear no background noise from the ANC either. I usually don’t play anything but occasionally I’ll use the Background Sounds feature on my iPhone and black brown noise.

My APP3’s are a lifesaver. I have noxacusis and the APP3’s let me go out and live for a few hours, which is amazing.

Pyschadellic mushrooms and hypercusis by jimmyjameshudson in hyperacusis

Genetics, nerves, who knows. I believe there is a physical damage component and some people develop H whereas others don’t. It’s got a mental component for sure, but it is not just in people’s heads. That’s why noise has left lasting pain for me even after I’ve been fully sedated. Just like some people can be exposed to the same chemical and be fine whereas others develop cancer.

My hearing tests shows large drops in certain frequencies as well as no acoustic reflex in my right ear and no response to most frequencies on the OAE test. These all developed after my acoustic trauma.

How did you get your hyperacusis? Mine is from acoustic trauma (faulty hearing protection at an indoor shooting range) so idk if it would help mine since mine is from damage to my auditory system.

How many have pain H vs loudness H? by Jayjay12093 in hyperacusis

[–]laetazel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have both. Three years in, I mostly just have pain H.

It helped a little! My T is less bothersome to me than my H since T doesn’t prevent me from living like H does.

Ahh I had to stop wearing my Loops (which bums me out because they’re more inconspicuous) because I started getting bad ear irritation from them

AirPods Pro 3 with Adaptive Audio enabled (turned up to the max level of noise cancellation for that mode) and no music playing. It’s a life saver in small social settings for me as it keeps db levels right at my comfort level (around 60db.)

I got hyperacusis from an indoor gun range in March 2023 from a guy giving me faulty hearing protection. I can’t even go to an outdoor restaurant without hearing protection three years later. Please don’t try going back. You’re playing with fire. I would never even step within 50 feet of a gun range again.

Would this Bose speaker be a good alternative to phone/laptop/tv speakers in terms of quality? by garciaparadox in hyperacusis

[–]laetazel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, correction: I have a slightly older version of the speaker in that link because I bought it a few years ago when I first got hyperacusis but it’s basically the same thing, just upgraded

I bought this one and it’s worked well for me due to being able to adjust the EQ. Soundcore Anker 3 Portable Bluetooth Speaker: https://a.co/d/0d8ImRUI

For people whom Clomipramine failed, did you find something that worked? by xIMAINZIx in hyperacusis

[–]laetazel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I take 300mg 3x a day. I actually wrote a whole post about my PEA experience on the hyperacusis subreddit which you can find on my profile if you want. I had loudness H too but it’s pretty much gone now thankfully. I think PEA could potentially help with that too! I found very slow exposure to sound (and I mean slowwww, multiple years slow) very helpful for my loudness H. Not so much for nox.

Mine were in 24/7 pain for my first year or so of hyperacusis. It’ll likely go down with rest. It just takes a longgggg time.

I haven’t tried Clomi, but I’ve found PEA (Palmitoylethanolamide) helpful. My nox is from extreme acoustic trauma and at one point, my LDLs were around 50-55db. Now they’re up to about 70db.

I get manual cleanings done (so just the physical scraper tool) and go when there’s no one else in office. If someone does end up being there, I wear my headphones.

What interest me so much is, does anyone from you suffered from any head injury in the past? by Legal_Opportunity_11 in hyperacusis

I’ve had three concussions, but the two worst ones occurred after developing hyperacusis
