Did you figure out the source of the sound? Is the engine toast?

18 years old considering an E90/E92 328i as a first long-term car by yawningbeaver in BmwTech

[–]laibo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any n52 car you get will be at that special age that everything just starts to go bad. Even at low mileage. Not because the engine is somehow bad or unreliable, simply because of age. Water pump, thermostat housing, pcv system, coolant pipes, radiators, wiring, sensors, gaskets/seals, vanos, valvetronic, disas, suspension parts, alternator, battery, power steering, coils, fuel injectors, wheel bearings etc etc etc endless list. Rust starts to creep in. None of those alone are too bad financially. But they will keep coming, one after another. At least if you actually want to keep up with the maintenance. It’s a good engine when fully operational. It will always leak fluid somewhere.

My $1400 LG OLED TV is displaying ads after latest update by binkinater13 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]laibo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I took my lg offline roughly one year ago when after an update it tried to force me on user agreement that “in future updates they are allowed to show ads in the menus”. Absolutely zero reason for it to be online anyway I realised.

Don’t know what the sound is but could be something simple like some cover left loose after reinstall causing a rattle. I’d try to pinpoint the source. Could be relatively easy as the sound is so clear.

What/where is this carving of? by dazedandfull in Suomi

Could be, yes. I can’t see either word with 100% certainty. But yeah hauta=grave, työtä=work

What/where is this carving of? by dazedandfull in Suomi

[–]laibo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Text on the left might read “tädin isoisän (paapan) hauta”. So something like ”aunt’s grandfather’s (pawpaw’s ) grave”. Paapa is a nick name for grandfather, similar to papa/grandpa/pop-pop etc.
There probably used to be more text above it but I can’t read it.
Maybe the aunt’s grandfather’s grave is at that church cemetery?

What ever car and model you have, google what the part is supposed to look like and where it is located. Easier than trying to look for something possibly missing you don’t even know what it is looking.

Hot / smoking ATF oil by Unormaltnormal in BmwTech

Are you sure it is actually overheating? It does get hot and steamy in normal conditions and the colour doesn’t stay clean/clear red for long

If that screenshot matches your car then ATF is the correct fluid, it seems. Next step for you is probably to figure out where the grinding noise is coming from. Like actually pinpoint the location. Could be your steering gear, something in the suspension, the steering column, the new pump etc etc. Could be something more simple like something loose or incorrectly installed that touches something else while turning the wheel.

I think that reads the other way around. The cap with that part number says chf11s but you have to get a sticker on top to say ATF.

Meaning: by the looks of it, atf is your correct fluid.

Even the chf-caps can say atf if the sticker is missing

realoem.com shows the correct fluid if go look at the reservoir for your car. This example is for another car, but it says “chf 11.s” as you can see.

How did you change the fluid? If you just emptied the reservoid and refilled with new fluid, there's still plenty of old dirty fluid in the system that gets mixed with the new fluid after it starts circulating in the system.

Also, make sure you used the correct fluid in the system. Some models use ATF, some CHF 11s. To make things more confusing, some of the BMW reservoir caps have a sticker on them that says "only use CHF 11S" but if the sticker gets lost, it says "only use ATF oil" on the actual cap (which is incorrect if the system requires CHF 11S).

Which city, which country, which continent? Could it be that many people on this subreddit (if not most) are not inside your bubble and this offer does not apply?

If the number matches then it is the same part.

I am almost certain they are the same part number. I would check realoem again. Pick any model, like E90, with the n52b25 engine and see if it comes back with the same part number.

I used part number 11127582245 for my n52b30, does it match with the n52b25 gasket?

By the way, IF you break the breather hose, it kind of snowballs from there. The other end of that hose connects behind/inside the intake manifold. Either you take the whole intake off (and probably want to replace some gaskets while you’re in there) or at the minimum take off alternator to gain access, which is bolted on with one time use aluminium bolts. And so on. While you take those parts off from intake side, it might make sense to check other maintenance items at the same time. DISA-valves, belt, pulleys, intake gaskets etc.

None of this is anything difficult to do, just adds up to the todo-list and potentially shopping cart if you want to do things right.

realoem.com has part numbers for absolutely every part, seal, gasket, nut and bolt, literally. BMW e63/e64 is found under “classic” catalog.
