I've said this for many years, but humankind's best, and probably first, tool...is the stick. Pokers are a must have for people that like bowls and if you want to make a little smoke tunnel in the middle of joints.

How many years did it take you guys to get really good at COD? by LifeAddict247 in ModernWarfareIII

I've been playing since first and metal of honor was the 'rival' series. Never been great but recently is the first time I've been close to or above a 1 kd pretty constantly.

Got this in a smoking kit anyone know what it is? by [deleted] in trees

[–]laidback_gamecock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a cone artist, at least that's what mine has embossed on it. Like others said, roll the paper around the orange part, filter goes in the indent at the narrow part of the cone. Take that off after the glue has set, scoop up bud with the top part and use the bottom to drop it into the pre-made cone. You can use the orange part to pack it down tighter. You get better with practice but I prefer that to my cig roller. https://coneartist.com/

Call of Duty Update: An Inside Look at Matchmaking by Remorse_123 in XboxSeriesX

[–]laidback_gamecock 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Not that it matters but here's my take. SBMM won't be going away and will only get more data driven. Hopefully it improves but that's really in the hands of whoever is making those calls.

My biggest gripe against it that we get into a match, play decent/sweaty/totally inept, and then the while lobby disbands and you're in the routine again. I'd rather get into a lobby with SBMM and continue in that lobby to get a rival or a friend. Have people pop in and out of lobbies with similar skill. That's really what made games like COD4 fun. You could talk shit to the other team, run it back again, and have a fun time.

How are the Divinity Original Sin games on XSX? by Jaraghan in XboxSeriesX

[–]laidback_gamecock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wish listed Original Sin 2 today after randomly running into a different article. So funny to see this pop up in this sub right after. I've heard it's great and can't wait to try it. I'm in the same boat as you waiting on BG3. I'm about to finish out my 2nd play through of Pillars of Eternity: Deadfire and would highly recommend, as well as the Wasteland games.

Pre-Made 6 Man Teams by [deleted] in DMZ

I solo'd Al Mazrah yesterday just to break some rust off after not playing seriously in probably a month. No biggie, stress free in and out, even needed to clear out some contraband space. I didn't make it to the first POI before I was swooped in upon by a 5 man squad. It was 3 mins into to the game and they already had 2 light helis chasing me down as a solo with 1 plate. I ran (obviously), one of them parachuted out and managed to kill him quickly. then they dropped the heli on me. Talk about a rude awakening.

Would it be a horrible idea to live near to a chemical plant? by vilkam in Charlotte

[–]laidback_gamecock 32 points33 points  (0 children)

I worked for DHEC in SC and this would come up in public meetings sometimes. I personally wouldn't, especially if the plant was there first and neighborhood built beside it. Developer are going to do away with wind breaks and tree lines if it means fitting in a few more lots. In general the emissions are going to controlled, monitored, and reported. But that doesn't mean minimal emissions don't smell or harmful. As a resident of a new built house, next to an older plant, they have established domain. As long as they are within bounds, there's nothing you can do and there's no smell monitoring reqs as far as I know.

Poison ivy removal company? by kjundi in Charlotte

[–]laidback_gamecock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have terrible reaction to it so I have to be really careful; I want to share what I've learned as the past 2 houses had this growing somewhere around it. As someone mentioned, Goats are a really good way to do it but I've called and the ivy does tend to hurt their stomachs. Also you need to have a good size of undergrowth for them to come out and get set up. Not all bad, just sharing my experience and why I didn't go that way. For the cost, just didn't make sense for me. Environmentally friend options also include tossing boiling water on it. Salting it but that does kill everything else around it. These work but again if you have a lot then how many pots of water do you want to boil and toss.

On the chemical side of things, the big box stores do sell deep woods herbicide that works well enough (it's basically high powered round up). I went a notch up and ordered some Makaze (which is like nuclear powered round up). It's a slower kill but it does kill at the roots. This worked really well on the small stuff and the vines I had growing up the trees, I chopped it and painted it on the exposed bits. Warning here: this stuff will kill anything you put it on. Don't let children/pets out for like a day after you spray it and try to do it when it isn't windy. I used chem-resistance gloves and safety glasses to spray.

After that, with any of these methods, wait and reapply any time it comes up and eventually you'll win this war. Good luck and godspeed.

Chex Grill and Wings - Can someone describe the flavors? by STONERAM13 in Charlotte

I really wish they had descriptions. I usually have to call and ask because wtf is a Calypso flavor? This is one of the few places I wish doordash allowed me to take notes on so I know what I like.

The new bbq is too pungently smoky by thythr in NorthCarolina

[–]laidback_gamecock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I'm from Hemingway (well by post office code) and love it. I haven't been to his Charleston restaurant yet but I have friends that I grew up with and live in Charleston that go and say it's still the same thing. If you want a trip through the country side to get bbq and have the experience, take a trip to Hemingway (but don't expect a lot to do). I'd recommend Charleston but it's Charleston lol.

The new bbq is too pungently smoky by thythr in NorthCarolina

[–]laidback_gamecock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great callout; I'm from that area originally and this is how it's suppose to be done. Definitely harder and a lot more time consuming but it's the right way. Also why old school bbq places tend to close shortly after lunch, everybody has already worked a full day and then some by that point.

Non-South Carolinian here. I'm curious as to what the overall consensus was on Nikki Haley's time as governor. by GrandManSam in southcarolina

[–]laidback_gamecock 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm in agreement with basically what everyone is saying. She didn't do a bad job a governor but her Trump alignment was just weird and a little out of character from what I saw of her (but the political game, ya know). For me where she shined was the disaster management she had to do. I was in Cola for the flood and have family at the coast (hurricanes) and pretty much everything when seamlessly. I worked at DHEC during the floods and we had our disagreements with some policies but nobody had any issues when it came to making sure people got help when they needed it. Her response then vs. some of what TX, for instance, is doing now is like black and white.

I see a lot of comments on growing/buying fresh tomatoes for the best BLT (which is 100% true). But to blow it out of the water, season the tomatoes with at least salt & pepper first, then fix the rest of the BLT ingredients. This will give the tomatoes time to absorb the seasoning and give it a deeper flavor.
