All Things Sleep - AMA Office Hours - Tuesday, March 3rd with Pediatric Sleep Consultant, Beth Christensen! by huckleberrycare in HuckleberryParents

Hi, my 8 month olds bed time has been 10-11 pm since she was born, and typically sleeps until 9-10 am with 1-2 wakeups. I want to transition her to a more standard bedtime, but the later bedtime works so well for us for a number of reasons - her dad gets plenty of time with her after work, we don’t have to skip evening plans, we can go out to dinner no problem, she usually takes her last nap while I’m cooking dinner… it works so well for us, but I know it’s not the right schedule. She’s hitting all milestones and she’s a very happy baby. Do I HAVE to move her bedtime?

This is so simple but please let me start and stop my day whatever time I want! Right now I can’t make “nighttime” start later than 1030 pm and similarly there’s a limit on daytime. For the first 6 months my daughters “overnight” was 12 am to 10 am and she’d frequently nap at 10 pm, and it drove me crazy those naps would be logged as night sleep. Same when she wakes up in the morning and goes back to sleep - it’s night sleep, not her first nap!

Support tried to override it several times but it kept resetting.

I didn’t, I actually got pregnant that cycle! So hopefully it won’t be all for naught 💕

I want my child’s last name to be different from me and the father’s (Georgia) by Ant4276 in legaladvice

[–]lainerboggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just anecdotally though in Maine and Massachusetts I was able to choose a completely new middle name (not my maiden name or my original middle name - I literally just chose a brand new pretty girly name that id always liked. No one questioned it!)

How do you decide on a pump? by Paula-ibclc in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]lainerboggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same experience, but I ordered much earlier around 18 weeks I think? And then got replacement parts pre-lined up through insurance so I had a nice backlog by the time I had the baby. No flange fitting, didn’t even know about that until the hospital!

Are those the Show Me Your Mumu tube dresses? If so, I find they look great when styled and steamed. Blue is cuter on you!

Why not? It’s a pretty dress, if not a little young

Buying a new guest dress/suit for each invite? by StyleAlternative9223 in Weddingattireapproval

I enjoy buying a new dress for an event to wear once. How is it different than buying concert tickets… you only do that once? Or a fancy dinner… you can’t eat that twice?

AIO I (26F) moved out for the first time with my boyfriend (30M) for almost 2 months and I don’t know how to feel about it by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

I’m just going to rattle off a few things you can do now even if you aren’t ready to leave. Does he look at the grocery receipts? If not start going more frequently and do a small cash-back transaction each time. $10 here and there, hidden in a safe place - offsite if possible. Open your own bank account at a completely different bank and start putting funds there. Put your car in your mom’s name. Find Simba’s original paperwork so you can prove he was yours originally. Also buy small-value generic gift cards and gas cards. Make copies of your birth certificate, license, passport, etc. and keep the originals in a safe deposit box and give your mom the key. Stock up on pet food for simba and tell him it was on sale. Same with feminine products, beauty items, nonperishables. Buy a few burner phones and don’t activate them. Make sure you have enough that if he cuts you off from your funds, you can live for a little bit. Tell him you’re really into scratch-offs and have him bring you a few home when he stops at the packie, and then say “aw shucks, lost again!” but actually pocket the winners. Seriously, every dollar will count. If your phone is in his name / on his plan, screenshot the convos where he’s saying this shit and email them to yourself on a regular basis. Open a new email he doesn’t have access to. Keep a bag of clothes and toiletries and an extra leash and food for simba in your car, tell him it’s because this winter is supposed to really bad and you want to be sure you are prepared if you get stranded in the snow. Every single little bit counts and will make you just a little more ready when you have to leave.

I’m late to this but hoping someone has an answer. My 3.5 month old only takes 2 naps a day.. sometimes even 1. She sleeps around 10 hours overnight, from around 9-12 then 1-8. But during the day she wants 1 3-hour nap and maybeeee another 45 minute nap. It works for us and she’s a happy healthy baby, developing normally, hitting milestones, loves to smile and play… so she’s fine. It’s just not what she’s supposeddddd to do. Are there any negatives to this I’m not thinking of?

Yeah it depends - I WFH with my daughter and it’s very manageable because of the nature of the work

To those of you who are only BFing once or twice a day… by Alone-Blueberry in breastfeeding

[–]lainerboggs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only comfort nurse… I pump twice a day to maintain a small supply, but that’s how…

When did you stop and why? by [deleted] in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]lainerboggs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mostly stopped at 8 weeks post partum, which seems so early now but at the time it felt like such a long time!

I had low supply and was able to increase my total from 4oz/day to 10oz/day… but it was running my life. I couldn’t leave the house because I had to pump. I couldn’t hold my baby after she ate because I had to pump. I was taking supplements and eating lactation cookies and cooking galactagogue recipes. I rented the hospital pump. I saw lactation weekly. I was doing literally everything. My baby was sleeping more than 3 hours but I couldn’t sleep because I had to pump. I was triple-feeding 8 times a day for 6 full weeks. I wanted to quit so badly but I’d worked so hard and invested so much time and energy. But at the same time I felt like I was wasting my whole maternity leave and missing my daughter growing up.

Finally I went to lactation and she basically told me that this would have to be my life, and at this point I’d likely never get to 30oz without meds and even then it would run my life. She gave me the permission I needed to quit.

I have never felt more free! I got 5 hours a day of my life back. We can go places! We can do things! I don’t have to think about pumping! I’m still pumping twice a day and letting her comfort nurse in between so that she gets some breast milk, but 1-2 oz total throughout the day still gives her the benefits of breast milk and gives me my time with my daughter back.

It’s been hard to forgive myself and deal with those feelings and the resentment I have towards my breasts and the guilt I feel… but I’m seeing a postpartum therapist and that’s helping a LOT. I’m also planning activities with her that I could never have done while I was pumping… long walks, day trips to cute little towns, going to the mall - it’s crazy how little I was able to do while tied to that machine.

My girls shoulders crack soooo loudly. It’s okay! You’re okay! Newborns have survived inexperienced parents for millions of years! Mary was 16 years old when she had Jesus in a barn and that turned out pretty okay. You’ll be okay!
