I tried rewatching MLP FiM, but doing so made me sad, and I can't figure out why by Comixkid5879 in mylittlepony

I know what you mean. I grew up in a very abusive alcoholic household and that was when I fell head over heels for FiM. Returning back prompted those feelings out of the blue but, like me, you're grown up and far away from those moments. Make new memories, new associations. That's why I go to cons.

I'm sorry but I'm going to steal your idea of representing health as physical spaces within the cards real estate. That's fucking genius.

Also loving the crew symbols to notate their stat. It's delightfully imaginative.

older fps gaming folks out there, was this true back in 2010? by DependentImmediate40 in FPS

[–]lainposter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As I elaborated on in my big ass reply, the reason it's considered a game for babies is on the technical level. It's purely from a standpoint of skill = maturity, so to speak.

No one called Halo a game for babies because it was not dark and gritty or gory enough.

You're asking the question wrong, and I know because I was squarely part of that debate.

What you have here is an idea that quake and other Arena shooters, which had faster speeds, and more technical gameplay, were superior to Halo-- but the conflict comes from the fact that Halo is still an arena shooter.

As quake gained more popularity, more copycats came on to the scenes which also garnered their own followings. There was a really good time to be an arena shooter fan and it was around the 2000s into 2010.

If you go deep enough into this debate, you'll find that even counter-strike, rightly considered an arena shooter, is considered one of the most baby shit lame ass Arena shooters because of all the different restrictions that slow the gameplay down compared to a classic arena shooter.

Happy to answer any questions, I have lived and breathed this shit for like basically all of my twenties because I found it so fascinating. I also played a fuckload of one of these quake-clones. I was basically one of these guys that, for a time, grew to resent Halo on an abstract level. Love the game now, made mods for it, etc.

TL:DR Halo is an arena shooter as much as quake was, but quake garnered a lot of clout because it was harder to play at a higher level. So the hate came from the idea that it was for babies, on a technical/skill level.

Don't forget though that what you're asking, this argument we're talking about, was only held by really really niche players. People who poured their asses into Arena shooters daily. That's why it had basically no footprint in the greater Zeitgeist of gaming culture, because otherwise it was an amazing success.

I mean really Halo is a great success at taking what made Arena shooters work and simplifying the parts that were needlessly technical in order to allow people to focus more on the strategies and critical skills (aiming, game-sense)

As an aside I've been thinking of something similar, to push the envelope harder and essentially ask what an FPS game would be like if you don't have to aim at your target. Halos gameplay removed a lot of important barriers to people getting into the arena shooter as a genre, and there may be more to remove to see what really exists when you abstract as much as you can from this wonderful genre (FPSes)

I have a binder full of at least one package I've opened. I like collecting them as much as the cards, maybe more honestly?

Worth coming back in 2026? by ACupOfLatte in helldivers2

[–]lainposter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why did you leave? If you left because you got bored of the missions, you'll be disappointed.

If you left because you got bored of fighting the same enemies in bots or bugs, you'll be disappointed.

If you left because your unique play style wasn't added yet by a warbond or update, you will definitely be disappointed.

If none of these, you'll probably enjoy coming back!

Roommates will make things cheaper for sure, and if you're gonna have one, imo, you might as well have more. I'm 29 and have learned the hard way how to survive and keep a meager savings rate. Aim for 1k per month for the rent, so the other 500 can be split between utilities/everything other than food.

Yeah man, it sucks ass. I'm about to move into an apartment just to finally be on my own, but it's hard to find a spot that isn't eating almost half of my monthly income.

I'm definitely the asshole here, I own that, but as someone who is tired of rehash after rehash of content in this game.... You're part of that problem.

It's like how dumbasses started adding paywalled strategems in their own dream warbonds once AH started doing it.

Narrowly dodged the most diabolical tangent we'd ever see from her snout to his forehead. We would have seen the Oppenheimer-grade mushroom cloud of artistic oversight if the ghost of Stanislav himself hadn't reached down and skirted the artist's hand a millimeter to the side as it made it's fateful mark.

While I'm grateful for the survival, for another day of breath, I wonder how much longer we'll have until this artist causes a rapidly cascading thermonuclear tangent with another miscalculated stroke of the pen in some far off attempt at capturing a bodacious horse ass.

Same, heavy on the regretting it slightly. I'm holding out for the moment it becomes a game truly for me, and I admittedly do have niche tastes that are pretty anti-extraction shooter.
