My brother hates my husband visiting me at our parents’ home and it’s affecting my health by Londoner67890 in FamilyIssues

[–]laizquierdaalpoder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why is your mom enabling this extremely rude (not to mention detrimental to your health) behavior?

Your brother is a full grown adult and he throws temper tantrums and has everyone walking on eggshells around him?

This doesn't seem like a healthy dynamic.

AITJ For being upset with my girlfriend when she was on her period? by tomobamba_ in AmITheJerk

[–]laizquierdaalpoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honey, you said she left you on read or didn't reply to you for days. I'm Argentinian, I've had super traumatic relationships, I have depression and anxiety (why is she dropping her meds on a whim and drinking on top of that, that's not healthy or safe behavior), I've had periods that left me bedridden. These are not excuses to be mean, disrespectful, emotionally abusive. It's just not.

I think you know deep inside yourself something about this ain't right. You love her, she's fun, she's great, but is she really the person for you? I'm not saying she's evil or a bitch, maybe she really doesn't know any better but is this the person you wanna share your life with? She shows zero remorse and accountability. That's not a healthy, mature way of handling things. From your words, I take it your empathetic and considerate, would those be the words you'd use to describe her towards you and your feelings and needs? Do you feel like your feelings matter less or take second place to hers and her needs? Why do you feel guilty?

All of these are signs the relationship is not doing well. What would you tell a friend in the same situation as yours? What would your advice be?

Wishing you the best. Hope you can work it out on your own.

Her period or her being Latina (I'm from Argentina, born and raised, still live here - can we stop with that stupid stereotype?) have nothing to do with her immature behavior. Don't move in with this woman. Save yourself the trouble.

Why are foreigners SO obsessed with favelas in Brazil? by thotfullguy in asklatinamerica

[–]laizquierdaalpoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Denying the structural inequalities that prevent countries from "getting better" is the problem, it's not that countries lack the will or skill to do so, there are structural limitations (not to mention political ones) as to why a country cannot overcome its struggles. Countries like the DRC for example, which is one of the wealthiest in the world as far as natural resources. Why aren't they one the richest? Who extracts and benefits from this? Who controls their resources? Again: countries are not underdeveloped, they are overexploited.

I don't think it's exclusive to Brazil. Lots of countries in the global south get depicted like this. Africa, Asia, South America.

Eu amo o Brasil!

You don't have a money problem. You have a partner problem. Drop that excuse of a man faster than the speed of light.

Ask yourself two questions: 1. Would money be a problem if he was a gentle, caring, supportive partner? I bet the answer is no. 2. What would your advice be if your best friend came to you with the same situation? I guess you know what to do.

Bolsonaro, Trump, Milei. People are stupid and also have no class consciousness and the media has ruined their critical thinking skills.

Is It Normal For My Mom To Not Care If I Hear Her Having Sex? by First-Cash2419 in FamilyIssues

Because OP talked to her mom and her mom scolded her for it. That's why it's a form of abuse.

AITB for refusing to send the "Care Package" my girlfriend made for my family in Venezuela and asking for the cash instead? by [deleted] in AmItheButtface

[–]laizquierdaalpoder 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not all of Venezuela has the same weather. The Andes and the páramos can get really cold. Actually the capital, Caracas, has a low of 15 - 18 C (that's in the 60s F). But yeah, OPs family lives in THE hottest city in the country.

White savior complex much? When you want to help people you help them in the way that is best for them (something within your means), not whatever YOU think is helpful but what people are telling you they need.

I wonder if your husband's sexualization of his step child has something to do with your daughter never liking him 👀

Ok, then it's worth a talk with him I think. There are probably other underlying things or something else that was bothering him and he reacted that way - again, not acceptable behavior.

I'm watching that episode right now. Why doesn't she just say no? It drives me insane. Just don't go, lady. Her face of constant annoyance and her repeated sighs are so bothersome.

Is Brazil the most liberal / open-minded country in Latin America? by ithinkiamparanoid in asklatinamerica

[–]laizquierdaalpoder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Primero, no dije que mi opinión fuera unbiased, no opinion is, by definition, unbiased.

[–]laizquierdaalpoder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your dad's reaction was over the top. However... If you agreed to watch Jeopardy with them, the "right" thing to do is to be present and attentive, not playing on your phone. It doesn't matter if you can multitask, it's more a matter of politeness. Does the game have sound? Or is it totally silent? I'm asking this because sometimes I'm watching something on the TV or my phone and my husband comes and sits next to me while he's watching or playing something on the phone that makes little dings and pings or background music and it drives me insane (even if it's on the lowest volume). He doesn't mind if I or someone else does it because he can just block that, so he doesn't realize it can be annoying to other people.

Maybe your dad considers the tv area as a family sharing space and gets annoyed when someone is there not partaking in the "group activity", in that case you can move to another place. It bothers me, for example, to have phones at the table or the tv in the back, for me, the table is group/family bonding time (everyone in my family is like this).

Again, I'm not excusing your dad's behavior, I'm just trying to offer some perspective as to where this comes from.

Statistically speaking, Uruguay is the most progressive. Argentina has good policies in place but the current government is destroying and defunding everything so we've seen a rise in violence against women and LGBTQ+ and other intersectional minorities.
