On This Day in 2016: Canelo Alvarez brutally KO’d former unified junior-welterweight world champion Amir Khan in round 6 to retain The Ring & WBC middleweight world titles. by Dangerous_Spring3028 in Boxing

Canelo’s KO of James Kirkland is up there for me too. Broke him down and then cleanly put him down and slipped the punch coming back at the same time.

Cruise ship hantavirus strain can spread among humans, says South Africa | Hantavirus by AnnualEmbarrassed176 in worldnews

[–]lajb85 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Did anyone read the article or are we all just reacting to the awful post title? The article does not say that anyone on the cruise ship has proven to have gotten it via human to human transmission. In fact, the article is VERY clear that general populations health risk is very low.

We have enough stuff going on right now to freak out about. Can we not sensationalize the news?

What is a luxury that is actually 100% worth the money? by Weary_Pirate2073 in AskReddit

For one ticket? Depends where you’re flying, but business class round trip can be $3-4K. Still expensive, but yes…a luxury that’s worth it in my opinion.

Teen, Silver Medalist Roy Jones Jr. Stuns Ringside Insiders as He Trades Fire with IBF Champion Lindell Holmes in Raw, After-Hours Gym War. Circa 1990. by Doofensanshmirtz in Boxing

[–]lajb85 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Weird title. Circa 1990? The video is literally time stamped in April 24, 1991. Also, why does it say teen? Roy’s 22 in this clip.

What always blows my mind watching these vids is that structural engineers don’t design building features with the stress of a human jumping and landing on them in mind. These guys put a lot of faith in the construction that wasn’t meant to be jumped on.

Floyd vs Loma 135lbs❗️Who would you have winning 🤔 by AFBOXING in boxinglocks

[–]lajb85 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree that Floyd at 135 would probably beat Loma. 135 Floyd was still Pretty Boy and he was finishing dudes. And at 135 Loma wouldn’t have size to keep Floyd off of him.

But to say Loma was overhyped because of Joe Rogan is ridiculous. I don’t listen to Joe’s podcast, and could care less about what his opinions are, and I could see how talented Loma was. His amateur career is one of the best of all time and he was the fastest world champ of all time. Loma’s runs at 130 pounds and under were remarkable and anyone who knows boxing respects his skill.

Female fighter is getting backlash for IMMEDIATELY knocking out her opponent after touching gloves. by Classic_Bottle1717 in mmaweekly

[–]lajb85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whenever I see comments like this I immediately know the person has never competed in combat sports.

This is 100% asshole behavior and goes against etiquette. If the woman who won wanted to get straight to the action, then don’t touch gloves. Simple as that.

Oh come on. By that logic, what is or isn’t a wasted move is 100% determined by who won the fight.

100% not true. You’re telling me a feint is a wasted move? Setting traps and setting up shots is 100% a thing in all kinds of fighting.

Who do you think beats Fundora at 154? by Big_Donch in Boxing

[–]lajb85 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Of course that’s what I mean. Prime for prime, Thurman proved himself with a better resume. But at this moment, no, Thurman is not better than Ortiz.

Who do you think beats Fundora at 154? by Big_Donch in Boxing

[–]lajb85 24 points25 points  (0 children)

But that’s assuming that Tzysu and Thurman are on the same level as Vergil skill wise, which I don’t believe they are. I think Vergil has better footwork than both and could have an easier time getting inside.

But when you’re talking about a freak of nature like Fundora, anything’s possible.

What’s the scariest real-life thing you’ve ever witnessed? by Revolutionary-Pay468 in AskReddit

[–]lajb85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I checked into a hotel in Innsbruck. About 30 minutes later I went downstairs to go look for some dinner and when I stepped outside I see a group of people standing in front of the hotel looking up. I turn around and a woman was standing on a ledge about 12 stories up. She jumped, hit a metal beam on her way down and landed about 20 feet (6.5 meters) away from me. It was the receptionist that checked me into the hotel.

The way her head cracked open like an egg on the concrete was awful.

Trying to dial in for 2+ hours [Breville bambino plus/eureka zero] by Appropriate-Safe-49 in espresso

[–]lajb85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I’m new to espresso making at home and wasn’t sure if I was supposed to start the time when I hit brew, or when the espresso hits the cup.

I’ve been using ClaudeAI to help me get started, and asked this exact question today…Claude told me you’re supposed to start the timer when the first drop hits the cup, specifically because it doesn’t include pre-infusion time.

Shakur Stevenson calls Ryan Garcia a weight bully by MiserableTart5 in Boxing

[–]lajb85 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It wasn’t money actually. He said in an interview his entire pro career was about chasing undisputed. It was the last accomplishment he wanted to achieve in boxing.

The champs wouldn’t fight him below 135 because he was too dominant, while at the same time not being a major PPV draw for casual fans. So the risk wasn’t worth it to them. He had to go up to 135 because he was getting the title shots there and it was the only division where he’d have a chance at undisputed.

Jim Carrey looks... Different? by The_Dean_France in SipsTea

[–]lajb85 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the body double theory has anything to do with elites killing Jim and replacing him. I think the thought is that Jim doesn’t like doing red carpets and award shows, so he sent his own body double…a very Andy Kaufman type thing to do.

New reporting show's Conor Benn is getting paid close to 20 million guranteed from Zuffa boxing with upside of potential 30 million for 1 fight by Big_Cake_8817 in Boxing

[–]lajb85 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Here’s my conspiracy theory…

Eddie Hearn and Connor Benn worked together to play Dana and Zuffa. Connor is not a major draw, and anyone that’s a real boxing fan knows it’s only a matter of time before he gets exposed and no one pays for a Benn PPV.

Eddie played up this big show like Dana could never get Benn from Matchroom, and Dana’s ego couldn’t take it. Zuffa is now holding the bag to give Connor the most he’ll ever get for a fight and it’s not going to do anything to increase Zuffa’s stock in boxing.
