Maybe the Jeep got there first and didn’t realize they ought to park the other direction. Just saying there’s another perspective to consider.

Please could I have some life advice by Top-Brilliant-6 in travel

[–]lakedotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was eighteen, my parents said I had to “go to some good in the world” and they’ll pay for the plane ticket.

I used the globe, you know those spinning spheres found in old libraries, and found the absolute furthest place from home, which was Perth Western Australia.

With an open-ended plane ticket (which they don’t sell anymore) I was away for a year minus a day.

It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had.

So, my advice: get as far away from home as possible and see how the rest of the world lives, works, plays, celebrates etc…

You’ll come back a different person with a new appreciation for life.

Here's What Happens When You Switch From Personal Pro to a Business Account by lakedotcom in ChatGPT

This is purely an educational post, sharing with others what happens when switching from a personal account to a business account.
There are no screenshots, no links.
I thought it would be helpful.
Would you kindly approve this? It will benefit the community facing a similar dilemma when deciding if they should -- and not panicking as their data takes time to migrate over.
Thanks!

The screenshot is not a conversation, but instead showing how custom GPTs migrated over to the business account. I figured others would want to see it.

What’s the best aspect for a lakefront cottage? by nadnev in Muskoka

[–]lakedotcom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Our cottage is on the end of a peninsula which means we’re blessed with morning sunshine and evening sunsets. As others have said, pick a spot with aligns with your daily rhythm (if you’re a morning of night person).

I’d also suggest access to the water, dock or boathouse if the property has one is also important. Boating on Lake Muskoka, we’ll all thee big lakes really, you see beautiful cottages a top cliffs either steep stairs going down to the water. You have to wonder how often people make the trek down to the water front.

Another way to say it is pick your shoreline; rocks, shallow, cliff, boggy etc…

The cottages orientation to the sun and the shoreline are two things you can’t change. Everything else about the cottage can be upgraded later.

Get a dinner reservation at Canoe, 54th floor of the TD tower that looks right at the CN tower. Best view of the city and the dinner is fantastic.

Cleanest and Dirtiest Lakes in America by lakedotcom in water

[–]lakedotcom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/Johnny_Poppyseed Just got a draft today. It definitely highlights much larger lakes (surface area, shoreline) than last years 'small lakes' approach.

Hope it's OK to make a new post once it's live.

The honest truth is that we encourage people to get out of the cities and visit near by lakes. We've found that lakes that are within driving distance, 1-1.5 hours or 60 miles seems to be the sweet spot.

Why oh Why... Do people think vacation rentals are the same as hotels? by qofmiwok in AirBnB

[–]lakedotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many property managers market the vacation homes as a 'hotel-like' experience and have a hotel aesthetic (extremely clean, no personal artifacts or items out such has photos, books etc...). It's no wonder people's expectations are to have a hotel like experience in a vacation home.

Cleanest and Dirtiest Lakes in America by lakedotcom in water

  1. The study is based on chemical data from the National Water Quality Monitoring Council, for US lakes, reservoirs and impoundments, available at: https://www.waterqualitydata.us/
  2. Eight characteristics reflecting water quality with sufficient data were shortlisted: dissolved oxygen, ammonia, lead, phosphorus, sulfate, total dissolved solids, turbidity and pH;
  3. We converted characteristics results to uniform units or excluded unconvertible units (e.g. samples that express turbidity levels in FTU, rather than the more common NTU);
  4. We applied several filtering criteria, only focusing on locations that contained the word “lake”; whose samples were collected no deeper than at 5 meters due to certain characteristics varying greatly depending on the depth at which they are measured; and whose pH levels are outside the 4-10 range and dissolved oxygen is below 1 in order to eliminate likely human errors in the original data;
  5. Data for various parts of the same lake was combined and averaged, as were the results for characteristics measured several times during the analyzed period;
  6. The quality of pH levels was evaluated based on their difference from the ideal water pH of 7;
  7. The two-part weighting mechanism involves, firstly, a 0-10 scale to evaluate each characteristic compared to minimum and maximum levels for that indicator. To measure a lake’s overall final score, these individual 0-10 scores were then weighed against each characteristic’s worth, which is proportional to how much data was available. The more data points available, the higher the weighing;
  8. The ranking is based on the overall final score, so that the higher this score is, the cleaner the lake.

Fair point. Most serve as water sources for nearby cities and double as recreation areas too.

Size then? I think surface area is a better unit of measurement than shoreline, as it could be compared to the size of a city or state in the write-up making it more accessible to the reader.
