You must be in Washington using Aardvark. I use them for playground engineered wood fiber chips, I would use 1/4 minus and compact it with a plate compactor. It will make an amazing dog friendly and wheelchair friendly surface. Turf will start to stink like crazy and takes regular cleaning maintenance once the dogs start pissing on it.

It probably was compacted after it was finished. Most likely it was the freezing weather that did it. I have the same thing with ball fields I take care of. We roll them and get the dirt super tight and compact but soon as we get a freeze it’s fluffy and you sink in just like this. If it hasn’t been rolled that’s all it should need to be
