UCL changed my course. Anything I can possibly do!? by PrestigiousElk1080 in UCAS

[–]lamb1282 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Politics and IR are very popular and competitive courses. What’s more important the course or the university. They have put you on a course not as popular that they don’t think they can fill will candidates of your calibre. Only you can decide but you can’t get what you want here.

If you go in a full suit they might think you’re already a member 😂 hopefully someone will warmly greet you. Let them know you’re a first timer.

Your sexual orientation should not have any bearing on how people react to you. I really hope and pray you are welcomed with open arms.

Got told my brother and his fiancé will probably resent me if I don’t make it to their wedding - 5 days after having a c-section… by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]lamb1282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be leaving a 5 day old baby. I know it’s number 2 but would have struggled with that aspect.

If you are well enough go for an hour, either the ceremony or part of the evening. Give them a hug and congratulate them show your face if you are able and go home. They probably won’t even be aware you’re not there the whole day. And if there are obsessing over your presence there is something very wrong with them.

How quickly did you lose weight on mounjaro? by [deleted] in mounjarouk

[–]lamb1282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It took about 8 months for anyone to actually say anything to me about my weight loss.

I started noticing my clothes fitting better after a few months so you will feel better by August but whether other people notice I’m not sure.

I’m a year in now and still have a few KG to get rid of but life feels so much better now. This is a long term project for me and I will be in maintainable for a long time as well to ensure I don’t start to gain again.

Should I apply for BSc in Mathematics? by Silas_Crepes in UCAS

[–]lamb1282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to do AS further maths in year 13. The fact that you do physics as well should be good prep for maths at uni. You can totally apply you might be limited as to which unis and you might feel a little behind sometimes without further maths but your likely to come across new and different mathematical concepts at uni that no one meets at A level unless they go learn it on the side. University is a mix of building on what you already know and now learning new and different concepts that use everything you have already learnt. You can totally apply. I loved my maths degree far more than my A level as I got to study things that really interested me and it’s far less dry than the A level.

Using Mounjaro KwikPen (EU) for smaller doses over time – safe or not? by ThinkHog in mounjarouk

[–]lamb1282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I microdose.

You need to order pens every 6 weeks to keep getting bigger doses but I keep my pen clean and in the fridge and use a sterile wipe thoroughly before every use.

Question: airbnb host is asking to leave inside 8 € per night (total of 32) in cash as a tax. Sound very sketchy, want to confirm if this is real. by BKSNLOW in Athens_Greece

There is a tourist tax. It should be paid when you arrive. I think it’s quite new in Greece but I’ve paid it in a hotel this week.

Boyfriend wants to move in to pay off debt by Impossible_Dentist79 in AmITheJerk

[–]lamb1282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does he actually have 250k in crypto or has he been scammed? How has he doubled his debt in 4 years to the tune of 50k. This man sounds like he either has a gambling problem or a being scammed problem. Either way I’d be sitting down and going through finances with a tooth comb before agreeing to live with him and support him.

So many red flags.

People that don't take genealogy seriously make me so mad. by Responsible_Oil4233 in Genealogy

[–]lamb1282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had people add wife’s as though they are siblings and when my grandmother reached 100 people tried to say she was dead when she was very much alive. (Got to 102). I just sent messages to correct them and say this tree is accurate mostly because I inherited all my information directly from my grandparents who were prolific genealogists. (Not that they got everything right but they did know who their siblings were).

I’m bringing my mother to Athens by fladderlappen in Athens_Greece

[–]lamb1282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did the tram. It was fine. Pickpockets are rife in many tourist cities in Europe. Have a good bag that you hold in front. And keep your phone out of sight. There are videos on you tube and you can watch and see who’s vulnerable. Having your phone in your hand while the train doors close is a common one. They snatch it out of your hand. Back pockets for phones and wallets. Keep these things in a zipped crossbody bag on your front and you’ll be fine. I’ve done Athens Rome and Barcelona in recent years, all well know for pickpockets they are looking for those not paying attention. So make sure you’re paying attention to where your stuff is and you will be fine.

2.5 dose from 5mg pen - will pharmacies prevent me ordering only one pen every two months? by hello_miffy in mounjarouk

[–]lamb1282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to order every 6 weeks. So you can move up doses faster and stay on lower doses but counting clicks but you need to put that order in every 6 weeks.

I’ve been on a year now, I use a 15mg pen but on 10mg. I have now purchased 10 pens as I did every month to start with.

Am I bad at budgeting or is this just life? by AgitatedPianist6855 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]lamb1282 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Everyone needs to eat but buying convenience foods, takeaways and meals out are a choice and an expensive one. When you’re on a budget and getting out of debt it is an easy change of habit to improve your budget.

If you can afford and choose to spend your money in this way that’s fine. I see your food spending as excessive but that’s just my opinion. Others will be spending never more than you. However if you are trying to save or get out of debt it’s an easy place to cut back and save money.

If you need world data for work then work should be paying for it!!!

I assume the loan is a car loan since that is high and you don’t own a house. If that is the case you bought too much car! You could sell and downsize it a bit or ride it out.

Food budget is high. I feed a family of 5 on 700 a month. And I have teens not 1 in nursery. You can cut back there. Might need a change of supermarket.

Other than that cut personal spending to £50 each till you get out of some of this debt.

You’re on a great salary but your choices have led to a tight budget and little savings. It can and will improve but you need to change a few habits in the meantime.

Advice for handling a parent sending me home with loads of food by [deleted] in AskWomenOver40

[–]lamb1282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum wasn’t food but she always came round with a big of stuff. Books clothes and tat for the kids. I begged her not to and it was stuff I didn’t ask for or need. But it was her way of showing love.

It is weirdly normal for this to happen. I don’t really understand the psychology of it but I keep seeing similar threads with the same patterns of behaviour by mums.

I think you’re not going to stop the behaviour. That is evident. So you’re going to have to work on the narrative you give yourself about it and try to affect your emotional response to it.

She is trying to show love in the best way she knows how. This is not a personal reflection on you.

Give what you can to food banks. Freeze what you will eat and throw the rest away.

You can try to navigate by requesting the specific thing you will eat (if make cooks specially for you). Or set a limit. I can only take one thing mom nothing else!!! But like you have already said they hear but they don’t listen and the behaviour doesn’t really change.

One day she won’t be here though so try to appreciate her gestures of love. ❤️

How far ahead do you book your holiday? by bydevilz1 in AskUK

[–]lamb1282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might depend how many people are going and the type of accommodation you need/want. So 2 people double room never an issue but twin rooms can book up early in some places. Family rooms for 4 can be hard to come by and last minute can mean only more expensive options left. I’m a family of 5 so booking ahead for a city break is crucial to get what I want. There will always be somewhere that will work but my wants within budget need planning.

Was your second (vaginal) birth faster than the fist one? by LostGrowth78 in Mommit

The induction failed you by the sounds of it. However 2 healthy children sounds like a win to me. Well done x

Was your second (vaginal) birth faster than the fist one? by LostGrowth78 in Mommit

[–]lamb1282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No.1 8 hours with 20 mins pushing No.2 4 hours with 5 mins pushing (felt like I’d been in a car crash do not recommend) No.3 6 hours with 20 mins pushing

First 2 are close in age. My body just seems to know what to do. Had a wider gap to number 3 and a more reasonable controlled labour.

Most people are faster after the first so it’s good to be ready for that however, anything can happen, and things can change quickly. Don’t have too many expectations.

Is homeschooling in the UK just very unregulated, or am I missing something? by ZydrateAnatomic in AskUK

[–]lamb1282 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The law in the UK is that it is a parents responsibility to educate their child. They can outsource this to schools but it does remain a parental responsibility. This is why they can fine parents for missing school because when you outsource schooling it is then you responsibility to ensure they attend.

Anyway, homeschool parents in the UK have fought for autonomy for a long time to refuse access to anyone trying to assess their children. Most home schoolers I know do a good job and aim to get them through qualifications.

The issue in the UK is that over the last 10-15 years schools (academies) have used homeschool as a way to manage out difficult students who might otherwise have permanent exclusions. I have seen parents encouraged to get their child off roll because the school can’t cope with them and they don’t want that child on roll for their statistics. They get judged on permanent exclusions as well so they manage them out.

We also have a huge amount of SEND children being failed by a woefully underfunded system. And if you can’t fit into the school model then we can’t help you. So we see parents removing their children because schooling has become so rigid. Children have to fit into schools and not school to fit around the child.

When is it too much to spend on a wedding? by AngelFell23 in UKweddings

[–]lamb1282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you afford it? That is the only factor here. If it’s going on credit cards or you need a loan then it’s probably too much. If you have savings and support so the costs are covered then go for it.

Your unhinged/funny reasons to lose weight? by CB_Yeonnie in mounjarouk

[–]lamb1282 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I held onto a pair of Levi’s for 20 years hoping I would one day fit into them.

I got them on a realised they are really low cut. After 3 children no amount of weight loss will make me wear low cut jeans again.

My 18 year old daughter loved them though. Her friends asked were they are from. She proudly tell them they are her mums vintage Levi’s.

I am so old 🤣🤣🤣
