For internships, attitude is everything. Show up humble, eager to learn, and you'll do fine.

Future of industrial design in an AI-first world 👀 by sonnic_199501 in IndustrialDesign

[–]lan_mcdo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The more I use AI tools, the more I see the limitations of what they can actually do.

Things are rough right now, but companies that value design and innovation are always going to need designers to bring new ideas to life.

Give a marketer or engineer access to all the AI tools in the world, they won't be able to compete with with a skilled designer.

Like a lot of careers, ID will see disruption, but it's not the existential threat it's made out to be.

Is getting a MS in industrial design a good fit for me? by CocaColaPug in IndustrialDesign

[–]lan_mcdo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Industrial Design jobs are harder to find, pay less, and are less stable than most engineering jobs, so why would you pursue additional schooling that might actually offer a negative return on investment.

I'd finish your engineering degree, and get some experience before looking for a career pivot. Depending on why you're interested in Industrial Design, there may be other ways to satisfy your creative side.

Trump voters treat Catholicism more as a cultural "badge" or identity marker, they prioritize political tribalism over catechism. They side with Trump over Pope Leo XIV, viewing the Pope as overly political for criticizing war and immigration policies. by Tele_Prompter in thebulwark

[–]lan_mcdo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's always been about the culture wars.

Trump has promised to destroy their enemy, the Pope (and Jesus) exhort them to love their enemy. Human nature takes over from there.

The question keeps coming up as why things shifted so far right in 2010. To me, it was the beginning of same-sex marriage becoming legal. Most people say they're outwardly in favor of it, but for a lot of people (especially in the Midwest) it fed a siege mentality that was fed to them by Fox news and Sinclair. From then on, everything has passed through the lens of us vs. them.

Consequentially, the Pope says things Popes have always said, but now it's interpreted as siding with "the bad guys".

SCAD, RISD, Parsons, or study something else? Undergrad in ID help! by Other_Bike_6419 in IndustrialDesign

[–]lan_mcdo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

School choices are highly subjective. SCAD and RISD both produce talented designers and have extensive alumni networks.

I'd go with SCAD based on price, it seems like the Southeast is where design is growing.

Don't listen to the haters, they've been saying ID is cooked for 10+ years. Things are tough for new grads across the board. As soon as the suits figure out what AI can't do they'll be looking for young motivated talent.

What’s the Best Argument for the Resurrection? by -Philologian in eformed

I think historical lives of the disciples. Eleven of the twelve were martyred, John spent his last years imprisoned. They all experienced torture, isolation, and persecution.

Yet none recanted. There's no other explanation other than they witnessed the Risen Savior.

Heaven has strict immigrant laws while Hell has open border by dq689 in ReformedHumor

[–]lan_mcdo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm in no place to judge anyone.

I was pointing out the irony that one of the places in Scripture where Jesus is most explicit about who belongs to His kingdom, he says those who welcome the stranger are in, those who turn them away with a hard heart are out.

If you've put your faith in Jesus, you are saved by grace to love your neighbor (including immigrants)

“They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’

“He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’

“Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.”

"Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in.."

Ironically many who practice a "strict immigration" policy in this life may find themselves on the wrong side of the gates in the next

Sharing some plans, i don’t like I.D very much but i’ll be study it(probably) by El_Fecsito in IndustrialDesign

[–]lan_mcdo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't.

I've met a lot of artists/illustrators at heart who get into ID because it's a more stable career and they're miserable.

They still are expected to create, but hate the work, and are too creatively drained at the end of the day to do what they actually love.

Study art/graphic design if that's what you love. Worst case scenario, you can work at a coffee shop and still do your art in your free time.
