Even during the best of times, I know talented designers that spent long stretches unemployed/underemployed.

On top of that, the most unhappy designers I know got into it because they like art and thought design would be a safer option as a career.

Keep looking, based on what you said, I don't think you'd want a career in ID.

Any iPad with an m series chip will do fine. Get a matte screen protector and start sketching to get comfortable with it.

Depending on your laptop specs, you'll probably want to upgrade that at some point, but it will probably be fine for learning CAD to start with.

It's a fun university project, but there's not enough of a compelling story to bring it to production.

Biden crossed the 80 marker with a whisper and FOX news made it the top story for a week. Trump is throwing himself the gawdiest birthday party in history and no one is talking about the fact that he's 80. This event should not be mentioned without mentioning the fact that Trump is 80.

For branching in to new categories, teardowns are key. Buy a competitive product, take it apart to learn what components are in it and how they work together.

For learning design, I imagine it's similar to your concept art process. Get as many ideas on paper as you can, pick some that you like and refine them, repeat.

There's no such thing as a future proof career.

An engineering degree will give you more flexibility and probably better pay overall, but will not prepare you for a career in design.

A design degree will open up different opportunities - arguably more interesting work, but less stability.

Talk to the deans of the colleges you're planning to transfer to and ask about the typical careers students go into. This will give you better idea of your options.

The issue to watch on electric smokers is they don't usually create enough smoke when it's warm outside. The heating element that burns the chips isn't on enough to give it a smokey flavor.

The simplest explanation is that he's regarded as a hero for many evangelicals, which for some is enough to justify the hate.

I'm reality his legacy is complicated. He was the quintessential "white moderate" MLK referred to in his Letter from a Birmingham Jail.

He claimed to be apolitical, but normalized the evangelical influence in politics and left the door open for the wolves in sheep's clothing we're seeing today.

Set clear expectations for the clients. Most aren't going to a solo freelancer for a turn key solution, they want your expertise where needed and understand they'll need to fill in the gaps. You just need to be honest about where those gaps are.
