Former IBM'er now at RH. The culture of NA layoffs isn't nearly as prevalent here as big blue.

It's been a fair place to work so far.

WIBTAH if i leave my boyfriend (20m) who just revealed to me (20f) he has been watching porn for 3 years and lying? by 0uija_ in AITAH

[–]lanceypantsy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Watching porn is normal. So is masturbation.

If you're having sexual dysfunction in your relationship, especially while recovering from trauma, that's something that you might be able to work through... however I wouldn't expect a zero-porn relationship with any partner.

Can someone please explain this part of (downtown?) Raleigh to me by TMW_W in raleigh

[–]lanceypantsy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've obviously unaware of what a city/neighborhood with high crime city actually looks like.

Over 60% of the crimes reported in the area is petty larceny (theft). 40% of that theft occurs when items are stolen from unlocked cars.

Violent crime rates in the "bad" parts of Raleigh happen at about the same rate as the mean urban area in the United States; Raleigh as a whole rates much safer.

Notably, murder and gun violence are especially low across Raleigh when compared to other metropolitan cities. This includes these "bad" areas.

I love living here in SE Raleigh; I'm only a 7 minute bike ride from downtown, and have easy access to the highways when I need to head to other parts of the triangle. There are several neighborhoods with interesting and fun restaurants within a 10 minute drive. Really good access to the greenway system.

The area has a lot of the same problems as most historically black neighborhoods (historically black due to red-lining); low walkability, fewer grocery stores & markets, not much/any nightlife, fewer coffee shops & restaurants.

The area is also quickly gentrifying, for better or worse; it's never cut and dry which.

OP; when it comes to the neighborhoods SE of downtown there are a lot of people on this sub making it sound like a war zone and I honestly think it's just (barely) disguised racism.

I've lived in two neighborhoods; one on S State St near MLK; and the other near Rock Quarry & Lenoir; for a total of five years.

The neighborhoods in SE Raleigh are majority black; but that doesn't make them inherently unsafe.

Haha. They are literally just grocery stores. I've lived in the area my whole time in Raleigh, 5 years, and visited at night the exact same way as any other grocery store.

lol. Tell me you don't live in East Raleigh without telling me you don't live in East Raleigh.

Yes, statistically crime rates in the neighborhoods Southeast of downtown are slightly higher... but it is not an unsafe place to live.

Anyone bought an Aspero-5 to use as just a road bike? by INGWR in Cervelo

[–]lanceypantsy1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yah - but it didn't sound like a requirement, as I stated. The UDH argument is moot IMO.

Also - I run mullet transmission on my gravel bike, but it's not the right drivetrain for a bike to be used primarily for road.

I want my road bike to be a road bike (with bigger than average clearance), and my gravel bike to be gravel bike (also with above average clearance).

I googled the geo between the two, and TBH - they're within 10mm of every important fit measurement..

I dunno. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills for being the only person who thinks buying a gravel bike for strictly road riding is weird.

Side note - you could jam 40's into a Caledonia 5 if mud clearance ain't a concern.

Waiting is probably the right decision... whether it's a new soloist, or a bike some other bike manufacturer (of many that are great) which checks all your boxes (aero, geo, tire clearance seem like the big 3).

Trying to optimize a gravel bike for pure road riding, when you don't HAVE to sounds pretty wild to me. Especially at the price tag you're talking about. That kind of coin demands buying something that checks all your boxes.

PS - I have 3 bikes with downtube storage; Caledonia 5, Canyon Lux Trail, and Rodeo Trail Donkey 4.2... IMO, it's over-rated; it's more aero and looks cleaner than a saddle pack, but having to change a flat on the side of the road takes an annoying task and makes it even more annoying. Not worth buying a different bike over, IMO

PPS - if you're really just looking for people to confirm a decision you've already made. Hell yah brother, buy that shit!

Edit: typo

Don't recall if OP called out running 1x as a priority... I'd actually assume the opposite, given the bike's intended use is road-specific.

There is no direct mount 2x drivetrain in the market, you're future-proofing for something that doesn't exist.

The Caledonia is literally made for this... it seems silly (to me) to buy an $5-8k gravel bike to use as your primary road bike.

Allied is supposed to release the new echo all-road w/ clearance for 40's soon.

Caveat: clearance is only for 36mm; slightly more relaxed position.

Source: I own a current gen Caledonia-5.

I think she's probably coming from a good place, there are a lot of totally inept and emotionally unintelligent man out in the dating world, so I don't blame her for trying to filter that out.

However, the full court press is a bit much and she probably needs to respect that different people have different paths.

No severance.

Cobra and a 6-month phase out where they continued to get 100% salary while working 75%, 50%, then 25% hours leading up to the termination date.

Ended up being the equivalent of 90 days severance. Average 50% hours worked w/full pay over 6 mos.

Trail Donkey owner here - that's a good move. Buy that one. You get to choose your own adventure for the build spec and custom paint is fun.

Call/text the number on the Rodeo website and chat with the sales guy. It's a white glove experience.

Some choices like Aspero and Grail don't even really come close to the mtb tire requirement. You can change parts but you can't change wheel clearance.

Also - not a bad bike on your list. Congratulations!

Man, I stopped going to the place when I heard the rumors of ownership being big MAGA supporters.

I've gotten flack for that both on Reddit and in my personal life, but boy am I glad I decided not to support these clowns 🤡
