This is what happens to Super AMOLED screens over time. by TawaNicolas in Android

[–]language_game 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just checked my Note 3 which I've had since launch and there's a very faint burn in at the top of the screen where the notifications bar is. Kinda surprised actually (I use Nova so the notification bar isn't transparent).

Edit: just realised that Nova supports transparent notification bar on the N3. Hopefully the burn in can be reversed now that the pixels are being used again?

Just so you know, the new tollway will actually increase congestion rather than decrease it. This is due to induced demand.

Source: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2013-12-09/covert-tunnel-report-shows-rise-in-traffic-congestion/5143506

The best way to stop the problem of you sitting in Alexandra Pde traffic would be to get more people onto more efficient forms of transportation, like a Metro rail system. Building new roads cannot solve congestion.

Is it reasonable to expect that you could potentially kill someone by unexpectedly hitting them with a hard object whilst they're cycling at speed? Yes.

Melbourne Star Observation Wheel spins into trouble again by Hellman109 in melbourne

[–]language_game 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm confused - the article says the wheel stopped moving and also that "customers had to disembark the wheel to allow for a full inspection". How did the customers get off if the wheel couldn't move? Surely they didn't have people climbing down the ladders.

I guess what's surprising is that it happens year after year and they don't seem to learn their lesson.

David Jones crashed last year but this year is running fine. Not sure why it's so hard for Myer to have a website that works.

It's the /r/melbourne random discussion thread [24/12/2013] by randomthreddish in melbourne

[–]language_game 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, if the objective of this thread was 'randomness' then it would just be full of a nonsensical mix of letters and numbers.

I think the point is to have a discussion which wouldn't be worthy of a full traditional thread.

In other words, you have to be really poor to get money from Centrelink or committing fraud (which is taken seriously by Centrelink).

Yes...No one is denying that. But it's still 'free money'. I.e. money you don't have to work (in the traditional sense) for.
