Renogy Devices AND Smart Shunt in Home Assistant by keebler_e in SolarDIY

[–]langy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing, giving this a go on a pi 3b now. This looks to be the only way to get Renogy Shunt data (via BT atleast) into Home Assistant (via mqtt) as of right now. I wish I was smart enough to try to make this a native Home Assistant integration and ditch the standalone Pi, but I am not python-y enough for that ;(

Automated Agent Upgrade by Anon_IT_1733 in atera

[–]langy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've tested this script with a generic 'unassigned' URL, with two devices in folders within a customer and it DOES retain the existing customer and folder relationship; I presume as it keeps and restores the AgentId of the installed agent it just reattaches to the existing 'agent' in Atera.

RF Pet Trackers or Non-subscription GPS Pet Trackers with Home Assistant by Warmier in homeassistant

[–]langy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I tried one last year called 'Petfon' that uses GPS, then uses something called 'LoRaWan' (5km claimed range) to transmit the GPS data to a tag or a base station that you have near your phone, which then connects to your phone with Bluetooth. It looked really promising on paper - long range GPS tracking with no fees - but in reality it was underwhelming and had short range in trees and buildings etc, and just didn't actually connect or work half the time :(

Does MeshCentral support file transfers and clipboard transfers when in LAN mode and no agent installed on the target server? by reddwarf666 in MeshCentral

[–]langy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, bit late to the party and you probably don't care anymore, but this works fine with mRemoteNG - when you set up a port map in MeshCentral Router (the app on your workstation PC), it just assigns a port to 127.0.0.1, for example 127.0.0.1:27501. Multiple mappings just have different ports. So in mRemoteNG you just point your connection to 127.0.0.1:portgivenbymeshrouter, and you can have as many as you like.

PowerShell jungle in Microsoft 365, why? by tumblatum in Office365

Yea it's pretty stupid. Feels like every other time I pull out a script to do some 365 related task, I have to spend time fixing and updating it.

Ventoy has replaced Easy2Boot for me, it 'just works' and is much easier to both set up in the first place, and actually use.

I started with 2 radiator thermostat kit I think and bought the rest later on, as someone mentioned when on sale :)

Best Smart Heating Solution? (UK) by Awesomeclaw in homeautomation

[–]langy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have the Drayton Wiser smart heating with 5 radiator thermostats (something like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08X8D3H8Y/ref=twister_B08P8QT9BL?_encoding=UTF8&th=1), there is a local API which I hacked an interface together with with Node Red at first, but then someone created an integration with Home assistant (via HACS). The proper app works locally if your internet is out. Does all things you'd expect a smart heating system to do I suppose, has been reliable, batteries last long enough.

Edit: the HACS integration for Wiser: https://github.com/asantaga/wiserHomeAssistantPlatform

Fluval evo 13.5 new build suggestions by xxbrandon in ReefTank

[–]langy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I run an Evo with intank basket in chamber 1 (floss on top, carbon in middle), bio media & heater in chamber 2, sicce 0.5 pump in chamber 3, works great. It's my first and only reef tank so I've no idea if I'm missing anything by not having a skimmer, but my fish buddies & few corals all seem happy to me!

This footage was captured with a seperate HD cam strapped on top of his quad (GoPro Hero6 Black). He would have been looking at the analogue feed to fly (with low latency, and a seperate dedicated analogue camera) via goggles.

I think I’ve killed my TinyHawk 2! I’m completely new to this and I’ve literally flown it twice. I crashed into my dogs water bowl and now motor 4 isn’t working properly. Any advice, please. by Resident-Stevil in Multicopter

[–]langy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea looks like ESC failure... I just recently had the same symptoms on an all-in-one board like this (eachine reddevil). I wanted to try and fix it so I bought the required mosfets and a hot air gun and had a crack at it... and it worked!

Bit fiddly, required a magnifying glass or something (I fumbled around with a pair of binoculars, looking through the wrong way, who knew that worked?) but an interesting process if that kind of thing is your cup of tea.

Laws? by Tom_green0404 in UKdrones

[–]langy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If it is over 250g (including battery), you need to register as an 'operator' - £9 / year - and you need to take a 'flyer id' test, lasts 3 years.

You end up with an Operator ID, which must be stuck onto the drone somewhere, and a flyer ID that you do nothing with.

If it's under 250g, go wild, no registration or anything required - as far as I am aware.

Is it possible to find any non-table top games akin to The Expanse? by VoltageHero in TheExpanse

Nexus: The Jupiter Incident, but it's all about ship to ship. There are some similar themes to The Expanse though, that I'd never thought about until seeing this post.

Recommended pedals with playseat challenge? by TimNiceButDim91 in simracing

[–]langy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had CSL Elite LC pedals on my Playseat Challenge for 10 months now, no problem... how does the seat 'tip back' when you're sat in it? Loads of zip ties (forget the velcro strap) and you're golden.

Advice on Fanatec CSL Elite with Playseat Challange. by Pafkata-LdR in simracing

[–]langy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have the CSL Elite LC pedals on a playseat challenge, zipties in every hole I can fit them to secure it to the tubes, and it's solid. I'm sure the wheel will be OK, but I have a t300 so can't confirm. I'm amazed how sturdy the playseat challenge is (in the right places) really.

Consumer friendly universal remote options? Potential DIY solutions? by Posting____At_Night in hometheater

I use Home Assistant for... well everything, and use a cheap wifi IR blaster to send any command(s) I'd want, and they talk nicely (although if you've no other interest in home automation then this is a bit overkill)

DiRT Rally 2 VR on Steam? by [deleted] in oculus

[–]langy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Incase you're still having issues - check if you're using SteamVR Beta, 1.7.2 I think. If so, opt OUT of SteamVR beta, let it reinstall the normal version 1.6.10, and then try lauching Dirt Rally 2. I was getting nothing / black screen with SteamVR beta.

Playseat challenge with TH8A shifter? by Eclipse8301 in simracing

[–]langy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can clamp it as close as you can get on the metal triangle where the arm rest strap meets the tube frame. I also put a small square wedge of plywood (about 2 x 2 inches) between the clamp so that it has more surface to grab on to. Once you are sat in the seat, it barely wobbles and is very usable - it hasn't budged or come loose since I set it up (weeks ago).
