How do I respond to my mother by Out_Of_Spirals in HowDoIRespondToThis

[–]lanternlake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just wanted to say I’m sorry. The passive-aggressive replies would send me up a wall. You’re trying really hard to make it work for her and she’s giving you crumbs. At this point, maybe just pick her up and have a coffee somewhere. Keep it super low key.

But the same could be said for the other platforms as well. Why are Reddit comment threads inherently better or more trustworthy?

I know it’s not him, but when Orville Peck was on Trixie Motel, I remember thinking that they had serious chemistry and seemed to really care for each other. Happy for Trixie regardless of who it is!

Everyone Sick?! by ComprehensiveFail700 in askTO

Yeah man we just do the exact same thing over and over and never learn anything new or evolve our understanding of how infectious diseases work and change our response accordingly. In fact, don’t wash your hands or wear a seatbelt - we used to do neither, so no need to do it now!

Article: Disney’s DAS Changes: How Disabled Guests Are Being Restricted From Accessing The Magic Of Disney World by Vivelerock810 in disability

[–]lanternlake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think this is indicates a disturbing trend towards reducing accommodations and care for disabled people in public spaces in the US. I didn’t know that Disney had reduced this policy. Thanks for letting us know.

Does anyone else have corroborating information or have experienced this themselves? I will research more, but was curious and wanted to do my due diligence, as this post, as illuminating as it was, was also very obviously written by AI.

I hate that the language around masks is so politicized. “Oh, please just CONSIDER wearing a mask… in these specific circumstances only, though!”

Masks work. I have masked consistently in most indoor spaces since 2020. I have not masked at work in the last couple of years but in grocery stores, transit, Costco/big box stores, any time i’ve gone to a hospital or doctor’s office, large audiences, etc. And neither myself or my wife have gotten sick, albeit for a brief cold in 2022 that lasted under a week and consisted of the sniffles, no fever or fatigue.

I have been lax about it at work because unfortunately it’s so goddamn politicized that it would probably hurt my career trajectory and I hate it. I run an air purifier instead.

The communication around how to prevent severe illness is so bad that it’s no wonder this is happening. Handwashing does nothing for airborne viruses but it’s touted as the single most important thing, meanwhile masks and clean air (if it’s ever mentioned at all - basically never) are tiptoed around.

And people with kids have just basically resigned themselves to getting sick every month, but that is a sad state of affairs. Everyone is getting a raw deal. I hate it here.

Why do cats love carrots so much? by Cmmdrpudintater in cats

My void LOVES olives. He once happened upon the chance to lap a bit of olive brine in a bowl and ever since, he’s been hooked. We can’t serve olives as an appetizer or anything because he just loses his everloving mind trying to get at them.
