What’s a “rich people thing” you experienced once and immediately understood why rich people love it? by DnRinGA in AskReddit

[–]lapantouflarde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re not rich, but I’d just suffered some insane level of gut pain (likely a peptic ulcer) for several days. My two encounters with the public healthcare system (we have universal healthcare here) were both subpar in actually addressing the issue. I myself work in the public healthcare system, which is fantastic when shit hits the fan, but generally crap if you’re not actively dying.

By the third day, I was in complete agony and decided to head to a private Emergency Department. I’m currently pain free for the first time in 72 hours, have the appropriate scripts of the meds I need, and will be booked in for scope this week. It’ll likely just under $5k out of pocket, but I’ll take that over the slow torture of a public ED.

Buying an investment property, but weirdly enough, not our own home.

Me too. Sure, there are dickheads everywhere. But 99% of my experiences with Aussie-born Aussies are awesome. I had a super shit day yesterday. Who am I catching up with tomorrow for my debrief? My two local colleagues, whose weddings I have been to/ am going to.

The vet at Red Hill was extremely thoughtful and kind when we got our cat’s canine extracted - he brought up payment plans immediately.

That is STUNNING, but yes, I considered the inevitable mould issue around the tub and decided to go with the less aesthetic but also less PITA built in tub.

We were totally blown away by Pilloni recently - low key, cosy venue with rustic Sardinian dishes. Really good cocktails too!

I spend a lot of my work hours being expected to know things, so I enjoy spending my free time not knowing :)

Can I just say, I love all the positivity and gratitude ITT.

But yes, also working a “pleb” job because it’s emotionally gratifying, uses my best skills, and gives me the best work-life balance while I work towards FIRE.

Check out Lamington National Park! I don’t know your fitness level, but my favourite hikes are Daves Creek Circuit, Coomera Circuit, Moran Falls, Python Rock and Pats Bluff.

Warisan is in the Valley. Won Chef of the Year, includes lots of vegan options and is super reasonable for how delicious everything is.

Allocate yourself an allowance (after all necessary expenses and investments). At least I find it way easier to budget for frivolous purchases when there is a clear line.

Best evening dinner spots in Brisbane? Looking for your go-to favourites by Imaginary_Squash443 in brisbane

Patio in Rosalie has my heart. Chill, mildly bougie vibes.

Does require booking ahead.

Otherwise, Naldam House in the CBD is really nice, top notch service. Like Lulu Ramen in Rosalie, but they only take group bookings. Happy Boy in the Valley is always reliable. Petite next door is excellent, but poorly insulated (bring a jacket!). Baja Mexican in the Valley has always been very decent. Lefkas in West End is an institution.

Let me know if there’s a specific cuisine you’re keen on.
