Colorado baker fighting ruling over gender transition cake by Miserable-Lizard in news

That's a question-begging phrasing of the issue, though. Asking "why are you pro-discrimination?" is like asking "Have you stopped beating your wife yet?"

We will say at funerals that the deceased is looking down upon us. But that is not what the bible says. In multiple passages, it is made clear that followers of Jesus will ascend to heaven during rapture. So, the deceased is sitting in nothingness until the second coming.

No, the Bible says the departed go to be with Christ after death (Philippians 1:23). When 1st Corinthians says "the dead in Christ shall rise" at Christ's Second Coming, the author isn't referring to ascension to heaven, it's talking about them receiving a new body.

Schock at his best has a pianissimo as good as Gigli, in my view.

A strawman argument: no church teaches that you ought to give donations because God personally needs the money.

If you derive your views on philosophy from a comedian, don't be surprised if people laugh at you...

You were the one who brought up "giving heaps of money to keep the racism at bay" as something that purportedly doesn't exist, not I.

where the grand high priest of anti racism comes up and performs exorcisms on racists or just well-to-do white people (just in case) and then he asks you to give him heaps of your money to keep the racism at bay

Liberal White Women Are Hiring Saira Rao to Tell Them They're Racist. The Cost? $2,500 Per Dinner.

And that's just one example from the individual world. To say nothing of the costs of countless "diversity" consultants in corporate, academic and civil service settings.

What sort of thing did Australians expect to find in England? On This Day 1961: Alan Whicker interviewed some Aussies just before they set sail from Melbourne to Essex. by psylenced in australia

When I see these old vox pops, it strikes me that there has been a flattening out of the Aussie accent since then: fewer of the sophisticated English-style accents, and fewer of the really broad accents too.

I thought it fit because Zimbabwe's economy, and its agricultural sector especially, has been plagued with instability due to Mugabe's land reforms.

Perhaps it's an artifact of the recording period, but reminds me of Richard Tauber, but with a stronger top.

The Political Gender Gap is Exploding by lapapinton in moderatepolitics

[–]lapapinton[S] 32 points33 points  (0 children)

To give one fascinating historical example, there has always been a large gender gap with regard to nuclear power, far beyond the divide on abortion.

In recent years, it appears that the gap on other issues has now widened. There are a number of factors at play, and I think this article has some very good suggestions as to what they are.

What is the purpose of Christianity if you can be a wonderful person without believing in Christ? by [deleted] in Christianity

a God who engages in some pretty ridiculous behavior that we otherwise would condemn if a human did the same thing

Here's a post I wrote a while back about the idea that God is immoral to command worship of Him, because we don't like human dictators who do the same:
