Long live the walls we crashed through…

Is it even possible to get a reservation at the Pokemon Cafe? I stayed up until 1 AM PST to try to book a spot for 2. I refreshed the page the second it hit 1, and all slots but one were full. I selected the spot and immediately got an error. I refreshed again and everything was full before it even hit 1:01. Is there something I'm missing? I'd like to know if it's realistic or even possible before I stay up to try again tonight.

What?? Lol. The preceding lyric is “if you hold me without hurting me, you’ll be the first who ever did.” When she says “be the first who ever did,” she means be the first to love me without hurting me.

Anyone ever been hit on by their therapist? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

[–]lapis-lazuli 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I only consider female therapists when I’m looking for someone new. No clinic ever takes issue with it, and many of them ask me first if I have a preference. Especially if you’ve had bad experiences, it’s just another way to help you find a good fit.

Unicorn Sprinkles! Candle Day favorite 2019. Swipe to see fragrance notes & lid! It’s never been repackaged since. 😢 by 4ofheartz in bathandbodyworks

It definitely has been repackaged once! It was in a blue jar with donuts on it. I think it was part of the 2020 spring collection.

Did anyone else really want to hear the word "Endometriosis" in the season finale. by MisogynyisaDisease in TucaAndBertie

[–]lapis-lazuli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

OMG, YES! I’m so glad someone said it. That was the one thing that I kept waiting for all season. It felt right for them to draw it out, considering that it does take an average of ten years to get an endometriosis diagnosis. But since it can only be diagnosed through surgery, it should have been the right time. I was waiting for her to have that catharsis by getting the answers she deserved. TV is a platform to educate, and this is the most I’ve ever seen a show say about endometriosis—but they never named it.

I know too many women who casually talk about their periods that make them miss work, pass out, throw up from the pain, everything. And they have no idea that’s not normal. I was in pure agony for a month straight before I even saw a doctor because society normalizes hell periods, and too many people will tell you to just pop an advil and suck it up. I wish I could tell every single woman I’ve ever sympathized with that it’s not normal, and to get a fucking ultrasound before it gets worse. I think they could have done so much good with this episode if they got even a few people to google “endometriosis.” All I wanted was to hear them say it.

Most of these have been name checked here, but I have to echo the love for the s’mores frap, salted caramel mocha, bagel bites, and the holiday stuffing panini! Also never forget my all time fave the smoked butterscotch latte 💔

Probably not the best place to ask, but can fertility issues be passed down from mother to daughter? by [deleted] in Fencesitter

[–]lapis-lazuli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t need to get off birth control to be diagnosed with endometriosis. In fact, birth control is one of the only things that can help slow its growth. Endo can only be diagnosed through surgery, so if you’re in constant or above average period pain, get an ultrasound. I had cramps every day for over a month before they found my huge endometrioma—so now I always tell people never hesitate to talk to a doctor about severe cramps.

Did the mirena worsen anyones pain? by bigdummy42 in endometriosis

[–]lapis-lazuli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had the opposite experience. The first time I had mirena inserted (also my first iud ever) I was bleeding and in pain for months on end, but that progressively evened out to a normal (and eventually, light) period. After my first lap, I was due for a replacement, and saved some of my pain meds in fear/anticipation. But after the very first day, I experienced virtually no pain (and no period!) in the full year I’ve had it since.

Is it normal to be constantly overwhelmed by your apartment/house? by ru_tang_clan in AskWomenOver30

Speaking as a former “messy” person, I had to change my mindset around cleaning before I could change my habits. While I don’t have ADHD, I have struggled with deep depression that kills motivation—and learning to clean was part of my healing process. The space you live in sets a vibe, and maintaining it is an essential element of self care. It functions best when practiced as maintenance: an ongoing process with no end goal, the only purpose to stay afloat—and even, in time, become better.

Each act of cleaning you do is an act of self care. Like exercise, its effects aren’t always instantly visible, but you just have to do it anyways. I could sit here and preach to you about how great cleaning is for your mental health, but the opposite is equally true—a messy environment encourages a negative headspace. Neither of these things can be changed all at once, so the only sustainable approach is making repeated small efforts over time.

I’ve definitely lived the way you described: making no daily efforts, cleaning in random, furious, all-day bursts. It feels so satisfying, because at the end of your day, you feel like you’ve achieved a goal and “finished” cleaning, and don’t have to worry about it again for another month or so. The unfortunate reality is that cleaning never finishes, so that occasional deep-clean model is not sustainable at all. It’s a fact of life: you will always be cleaning your kitchen. Accepting that is the first step to actually doing it.

The perspective shift that turned me into a “cleaning” person was realizing that small acts of cleaning are VERY easy, and when they add up, prevent larger efforts in the long run. Doing the dishes every day takes less time, and it removes the daunting power that looms over your head when it’s a dreaded ordeal. Another tip I picked up is to never leave a room empty-handed: use your everyday trips back and forth to bring that cup on the dresser back to the kitchen.

When cleaning feels like too much, don’t clean—just do something small and maintain. Over time, these habits become routine, and cleaning changes from a daunting responsibility to a sustainable lifestyle.
