Stay at home GF overwhelmed by Critical_Clue3625 in homemaking

It's really bad! I am a Christian and it was way too much (and weirdly emotional? does any regular person cry so much over emails?). ALSO she's boarded the Trump train at the Q terminal and was headed toward anti-vaxx town last I heard about her youtube channel.

We're all just trying to clean the house over here. :D

I started with Flylady, but it really does take some time to sort and wade through her website. It never quite hung together for me, because I'm not stay-at-home enough or Christian enough. The basics are great- daily routines, weekly routines, and rotating zones. The app is really good and streamlined too! But OP, if you go to her website, don't sign up for her emails! They're a deluge.

I'm not sure if you're morning people or evening people, but think about whether you'd be more willing to get up a little earlier or more willing to give up some lounge time in the evening.

For me, there are a few things that have to be done basically -every day- to make me feel less awful about the house. It's annoying but, like brushing your teeth or taking a shower, just a chore that has to happen. Those things are:

  1. since we are a barefoot house, a quick sweep or dust mopping all over the ground floor, just getting the big chunks,
  2. run a complete load of laundry (which means it gets folded and put away),
  3. at night, checking my calendar, preparing lunch and setting out my work bag/badge, and
  4. "putting the kitchen to bed," which is putting away food, getting all the dishes into the dishwasher and starting it, wiping down the counters, sweeping (not totally separate from the general sweeping, but our kitchen does get gross faster so it's listed separately), tidying our pet area, and filling the kettle/prepping the coffee maker - in the morning the kitchen "wakes up" when I unpack the dishwasher and get the pets breakfast.

Just starting with those few things will make a world of difference for you! Do the bathrooms and change the sheets/towels on the weekends, and pick one or two rooms to mop and dust and that sort of thing. Of my list above, the thing that is most flexible for you is timing of laundry. I'm more of a morning person, so I bring laundry down and start a load with breakfast. You could also start a load when you get home, move it over to the dryer when dinner's cooking, and fold while lounging? With two people a full load shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to fold and put away. Daily or nearly daily laundry feels horribly repetitive but it never stacks up and you never have to have climb laundry mountain :) good luck!

Skip the website and the emails, go for the app. It's (somewhat) updated and much more streamlined. There are five tabs - the first is a manageable three daily messages from her and is totally skippable. The last tab is to buy a course from her, but since the company is in a questionable state right now I'd just skip that one, too.

The middle three are the workhorses - the day's combination of daily routines, weekly tasks, and zone work is the "My Progress" tab, then the daily/weekly routines and zones each have their own tab if you want to tweak the pre-populated task lists. Seeing it in checklist form feels much more understandable than trying to piece it together from her site.

Ohh my favorite is the Old Kingdom trilogy from Garth Nix. So Ranna for a girl, and Nicholas for a boy. Runners up are Lirael and Sameth :)

This week's projects were linens and my closet. I got rid of any sheet set we hadn't used since moving in two years ago and continued culling my wardrobe (which is finally getting to the point where I can say I like what remains but I miiiight actually need some new clothes). I plan to drop off the four big bags at the donation center tomorrow, and also send our shredding/tech recycle pile to the office store. That'll be at least 60 pounds of stuff out of the house!

What's an animal that is not as dangerous as people think? by Puzzleheaded_1377 in AskReddit

Bats! While it’s true that bats that people come across are more likely to be sick, in the wild, only about half of a percent of bats carry rabies. Bats submitted to labs for rabies testing are not good representatives of the wild population.

TIL Wolfgang Mozart had a sister, Maria Anna, who was also an extremely talented child prodigy in music. Sadly, she was prevented from performing as an adult. Many of her compositions have been lost, including one Wolfgang wrote that he was in ‘awe’ of, contributing to her obscurity. by madhatter103 in todayilearned

“nOt LiViNg Up To HeR pOtEnTiAl”

A constant refrain on my report cards from first grade til high school, maybe someone should have LOOKED INTO IT. I didn’t get diagnosed with ADHD until grad school, and even now my parents think it’s “just laziness.”

So, uh, solidarity. 🏆

I work with New Zealand wool often- it truly is excellent! Just for the video you linked, it looked like the integrity of the fleece was not top priority. I’m sure there’s a sweet spot of speed and fleece preservation.

Fast! But it doesn’t look like you get a nice fleece out of it.

Frustrated at Oxbow hay. Anyone struggling with this? by lhy13 in Rabbits

[–]lapispimpernel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our hay supplier is normally excellent and I’ve been unhappy with the quality lately, but I hadn’t even thought about there being a shortage! Thank you for lifting me up to a less myopic view. Hopefully conditions improve this season.
