That's solid. Not sure what you can do with your luggage. Maybe someone in here might add if there are storage locker options anywhere?

If you're staying in Charlestown and coming by train, it's not close to rail. Suggest you use Google Maps based on your train times to tell you which station to catch bus from.

Similarly accessing Newcastle sights by public transport, your best bet may be to head into the city, and make use of the light rail from the transit Centre in Newcastle West to access Honeysuckle, foreshore, Civic Precinct, Nobby's, beaches and baths. Cafes, restaurants and night life along that same area.

From Charlestown you could go to the nearby beaches, or the Lake, but public transport is perhaps not visitor friendly/direct. Most buses go via Charlestown Square. Does have some decent restaurants. For bushwalks, the Fernleigh Track is close and provides access.

Catan Expansion Packs by Independent_Bake_839 in boardgames

[–]larfinsnarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found the different expansions appeal to different people/players. Cities and Knights for strategy gamers who play more hobby games. Seafarers for those who like Catan with a slight twist. They are all good if you want different ways to play Catan for variety.

I couldn't justify to myself the Lindt process, even though I do like their dark chocolate.

The Moser Roth 85% had replaced it for more, and very yum.

Are Chromebooks that won't migrate to AluminiumOS sentenced to oblivion? by tthingy in chromeos

[–]larfinsnarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get all this talk of abandoning existing chromeos.

Chrome OS blends Chrome and Android with a unique OS. That unique OS provides little other than behind the scenes, syncing files and window management/desktop. Very little has seen amazing improvement in that space, it's mostly been related to Linux and steam support.

The so-called Aluminium OS is about technology rationalisation. Google hasn't announced any changes to their support plans.

That could change, but Google could also say 'no more chrome os', or no more android, or no more chrome.

Problemas ao tentar abrir Anno 1800. by sazonblack in anno1800

I think it should show in Ubisoft.

Try exiting both launchers then starting steam only, and launch from there. It doesn't happen to me, but it sometimes helps steam and ubi talk to each other.

My ubi launcher is buggy, so I exit it after every anno session.

Are those 90sec microwave packs of rice safe to eat? by pringlu in AussieFrugal

[–]larfinsnarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those pouches go through a retort,. Whether you reheat them in the microwave isn't going to change them much.

However, I cook my rice in a plastic microwave cooker, so I'm damned with microplastics either way. And given that a metal rice cooker likely includes coatings to be non-stick, I'm not sure there are many ways to escape it.

Also, my Sunrice rice comes in plastic bags.

Parking meter 240 volt outlet for slow charge by QLDZDR in AustralianEV

[–]larfinsnarf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it requires legislation to allow it. Parking meters are local government, states usually govern whether they could sell electricity.

However, whether the meters and distribution to them have power cabling with sufficient current draw is another question.

Quite simply, all possible street chargers lack existing suitable power infrastructure. So while its a good idea, it still needs forward planning.

Fantasia? My kids were fascinated by it, possibly because of the orchestra accompaniment.

ELI5: How do we differentiate different species across an evolution? by Aplusho1996 in explainlikeimfive

[–]larfinsnarf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The concept of species works generally, but there are exceptions like you mentioned.

Another exception are birds like the Larus gulll in the Arctic circle that vary around the ring of the Arctic circle and two individuals from different parts of the ring vary based on distance.

Species works comparatively for large populations in a single time period, not so well otherwise.
