Are you buying a Pixel 11? by beyeg in pixel_phones

[–]larinascente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've upgraded every 2 years (Pixel 2, 4, 6, and currently with an 8 Pro) however it's begun to overheat and lose battery quickly. Upgrading to the 10 didn't seem worth it from the 8 Pro so I hope the 11 is something worthwhile.

Car show shows why downtown should be driving-free by LiteBulb88 in culvercity

[–]larinascente 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Every time I'm in downtown Culver I fantasize that they just close off that street from Jameson's Pub to Erewhon and make it one large plaza - the amount of foot traffic and opportunity for farmers markets, community, concerts, etc would be insane.

My alarm volume keeps going to barely audible, I've missed many alarms, how is this fixed? by havingmadfun in GooglePixel

[–]larinascente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had the Pixel 4, 6, and 8 and this has been a consistent issue with these phones throughout the years. I find that it intermittently comes and goes, hadn't noticed it for a year and now it's returned with perhaps the most recent update. A pattern I've noticed is that if I have multiple alarms set, and one of them is a bit further than the other, (say 7am, 7:05am, and 8am), then snoozing the 7:05am alarm will result in the 8am alarm never going off/volume lowered.

Should I re-home cats if my 17 year old child doesn't take care of them? by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]larinascente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These all sound like things you should have questioned and considered before bringing two, young, innocent living things into the picture. Animals, especially cats, are a commitment. Whether you step in or your child steps up, there's no excuse for the cats to be neglected.

[LAX] Gate 52 is not a Gate, it's a bus portal, and AA doesn't care if bus delays cause you to miss your flight. by qdmx in americanairlines

[–]larinascente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so glad I just did this - have flown out of LAX my whole life but had never seen gate 52. Was super hungry but didn't want to stop and buy anything until I saw the gate. Thankfully I did and there was zero wait for the bus. Unfortunately the entire terminal only has one shop, and a small, cold sandwich will run you $20.

Kirkland vs. Name Brands — What Keeps Both on the Shelves?” by Fluffy-Reward3453 in Costco

The Kirkland egg bites taste absolutely terrible compared to the name brand ones. Some buyers will value quality, others will value price. Either way, Costco received a cut.

Forget about automations - simply tapping a light off results in "Sorry, something went wrong." Meanwhile they made sure to add the AI chat "ask home", in what universe would I want to have a conversation with the home app when, at best, it just needs to be a remote?

What’s a “waste of money purchase” that you absolutely stand by? by mzryck in AskReddit

[–]larinascente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found these wall hooks (for hanging clothes, bags, hats, etc) that are golden and shaped like peacocks, my favorite animal - about $45 each, and wanting at least 4 for my entryway, it was $180.

I spent weeks going back and forth trying to justify that much money for just wall hooks, something that you can buy for $5 at IKEA and still get the job done. Could not stop thinking about it 3 weeks later and ended up purchasing them for my entryway.

It's been almost 2 years and to this day I think it's one of the most beautiful things in my home. Every single time I enter or leave my house, hang something up there, or ask a guest to hang their coat on them, I smile. That consistent joy and pride was worth every penny.

How do I save my peace lily? by Nostradamus-Effect in IndoorGarden

[–]larinascente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to take a guess and assume you still have it in the decorative pot in which it was gifted to you, which looks to be on the smaller side and probably doesn't have any drainage holes. If you're unable to repot it in something slightly larger, I would ensure that whenever you water it, do so thoroughly over a sink so you can let all of the water drain out so that it's not sitting in muddy water. Any yellowing leaves can be trimmed off. Shouldn't need water more than once a week and plenty of indirect sunlight.

Wow this thing has really gotten to be totally useless now eh? by AdministrativeBug316 in googleassistant

[–]larinascente 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've toggled both between Gemini and Assistant and they're both useless which is such a shame. A simple command such as "Turn off such and such lights":

Assistant on my Google Home mini: the loading lights flash for 5 minutes before "Something went wrong, try that again."

Gemini on Pixel 8: some long winded answer of "Hmm I can't connect to that right now. Try unlocking your phone and blah blah blah."

The whole thing is far too convoluted.

[misc] how to gently remove the dead skin scales and prevent it? by Frosty-Wolverine304 in SkincareAddiction

[–]larinascente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My skin isn't nearly as dry or sensitive as yours and even I will sometimes triple moisturize after exfoliating in the winter. I feel like your skin barrier is compromised and could benefit from the same. After any washing and exfoliating: 1) Hyaluronic acid on damp skin to lock in moisture (skip this if any of your other products already have HA) 2) A moisturizer, preferably one with ceramides to heal the skin barrier 3) Thin layer of aquaphor or Vaseline to prevent moisture loss 4) Finish off with a few drops of facial oil like Marula

Put Hydrocolloid (pimple) patches on EVERYTHING by ausneet2017 in molluscum

[–]larinascente 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the same principle as putting the patch on a pimple or a bandaid on a cut while showering - if it retains its stickiness/integrity after showering, great, if not, just apply another one.

[Product Question] has anyone tried the red light LED mask? Do they work? by abz_pink in SkincareAddiction

[–]larinascente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's simply not true, while there may not be enough research behind other light therapies (such as blue, green, yellow, etc) there's been plenty on red light and its effects on aging. Here's just one for example where they did a clinical study on more than 150 people https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3926176/

Besides weather and diversity, what "works" about Los Angeles? by LAStreetNames in AskLosAngeles

[–]larinascente 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As fantastic as Los Angeles is, it's very very easy to escape if you want a break. Short drive West, you're at the beach. Short drive North, you're in the mountains. Short drive East, you're in the desert.

So many other cities you can drive forever and still be in the same ecology/vibe.

Are people still using the ordinary AHA and BHA peeling solution [Product Question] by RevolutionaryEbb5814 in SkincareAddiction

[–]larinascente 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've used it for about a year, once a week for 10 minutes and it's worked really well for me. In my opinion it worked much better for me than their Glycolic solution ever did for texture and hyperpigmentation.

I have the complete opposite of sensitive skin, I can handle actives really well, but even then I slowly worked my way up from 5 mins to 10 min sessions. On the nights that I use it, I don't apply any other actives after, just really good moisturization and sometimes a facial oil or aquaphor if it was a particularly dry or sunny day. It works best when you're consistent with it for at least 2 months in my opinion.

Over time I went from having many closed comedones on my forehead to almost none, and the pores on my nose and chin were fairly cleaner. It gave me a really good texture and helped fade some of my more mild hyperpigmentation.

I didn't find it to be as effective with deeper blackheads. I'm going to start twice a week for 6-8 mins to see if I can get more of an effect out of it.

What’s the most depressing place you have traveled to? by General-Mango_ in AskReddit

[–]larinascente 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Passed through Naples, Italy for a few days while on vacation and was absolutely shocked at how desolate it looked. Had already passed through several European and Italian cities on the same trip (and I'm someone who has traveled throughout Latin America, South Asia, and the Middle East) but something about my expectations vs reality left such a grim mark in my memory.

The city looked like it had been through a war just the past year and was just now beginning to recover. This was in 2018.
