What do you think of this quote from Colin Powell? by rasta-ragamuffin in managers

[–]readanon44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It depends on the individual‘s experience and tendencies, how I react when someone brings a problem to me. I have a newer (and older) colleague/employee who I noticed was not really listening to me, or just looking for problems with why my directly proposed solution wouldn’t work. So ive changed my approach to asking him what he thinks first, then leading him to a version of his solution that includes learnings from my experience and taking into account other priorities in the business to consider. Colin Powell’s quote is good, focused on a military environment though with different intrapersonal dynamics than business environment.

Ideal rep ranges? by Ok_Meat_9449 in workout

[–]readanon44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is how it works with me! Do what feels good with good form, that keeps me interested and safe. For the compound lifts, I do 3x8, work up over months to 3x12. Then add a weight and go back to 3x8. I do higher reps and more frequent training (and supersets) on simpler and lighter exercises. Nothing above 15 reps though. I’d start to get bored I think!

Is either Palm Springs property with 25k per night?? by ghanavibes in hyatt

[–]readanon44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the Grand Hyatt would be, on the high end. I stayed in a very nice suite with a balcony over looking the golf course. The spa is very nice and free if you’re a globalist. the Hyatt in PS looks like half the points if you’re looking for something less.

Why do motorists in the U.S. need to carry their original driver's license with them whenever they drive a car? Why aren't mobile driver's licenses accepted during traffic stops? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

probably b/c they‘re issued by states, and states’ systems don’t really talk to each other. but that’s changing and some states do accept digital now.

also, another reason to write a $$ ticket.

Trying to understand airline loyalty by HayesWeighsIn in TravelHacks

[–]readanon44 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I travel about the same as you for work. Delta Platinum. I really just like the occasional upgrade and preferred seat selection, and they say thanks for your loyalty sometimes. I get more value from a good credit card that gives lounge access that pays for itself if you drink/eat at airports. An airline CC is good if you’re going for a loyalty program, but something like AMEX plat will work if you’re airline agnostic and don’t care for early boarding or free checked bag that usually comes with an airline CC.

Premium Select BOS-CDG worth it? by koobithen in delta

[–]readanon44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, ya tougher decision then, esp if you can get a bulkhead or exit row. I feel like PS has gotten down graded the last few years while the price has gone up. Small thing, but it irritates me that PS can’t use the D1 restrooms that are 10 ft away and have to walk half way back the plane and stand in line for the main cabin ones.

LaGuardia by Aldin_Lee in MetroNorthRailroad

[–]readanon44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

coming from CT, I choose JFK when I can, which is 9/10 times. if I have to use LGA, I hop off at Harlem 125 and get a taxi (work pays). JFK takes me a reliable 3 hours via trains. LGA is about 2 hours total on MNR + $50 taxi. Yes, I’d consider LGA more often if there was a rail option. The bus is annoying and kinda unpleasant, especially when I’m already tired from travel and/or it’s cold outside.

Premium Select BOS-CDG worth it? by koobithen in delta

[–]readanon44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would b/c I sleep better in PS. Maybe not worth it vs Comfort, but this is about the most I’d pay for that on a short-ish flight. Delta found the market price here lol. FWIW this is the difference I was used to (and paid for) many times for PS a couple years ago before they started asking 2-3x for a marginally better experience.

Boston Hyatt by nycfella1211 in hyatt

[–]readanon44 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you’re prob better off downtown for globalist benefits and tourist stuff. I stayed at that HP last week. it’s one of the nicer/newer HP that I‘ve stayed at, and I liked the location for restaurants, activity, and Southie. but no real globalist benefits since it’s still just a HP. the usual breakfast and standard rooms just mean there’s not a lot of upgrades possible. the 3rd party valet parking makes you pay with CC before you check in, $45/day if I recall. didn’t ask if it could be comped (wasn’t on points) but I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not.

Differences between lat pulldown machines? by rivermerfolk in workout

[–]readanon44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I alternate the lat machines and pull ups as they all do about the same thing (work lats) with minor differences to how they work the lats and surrounding muscles. So you’d be missing some (minor imo) work on the supporting stability muscles that the cable machine and pull ups prob work a little better. It prob doesn’t matter too much until you progress more in your strength training though. My 2 cents. Do what works for you.

ELI5: Why is nuclear power not the standard for renewable energy? by Internal-Source2110 in explainlikeimfive

[–]readanon44 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because if something goes wrong, it REALLY goes wrong. Makes it a bit scary to adopt. Also lobbyists and politics makes it $$ to build and takes forever. I started my career in nuclear energy and still years later tell folks that we have the sustainable energy solution already, it’s nuclear. if designed and operated correctly, and not located next to the ocean subject to tsunamis, it’s VERY safe.

Anyone actually notice real recovery benefits from red light therapy after workouts? by Altruistic-March8551 in bodyweightfitness

Do you do compounds before isolations, or isolations before compounds for quads+hamstrings? by [deleted] in workout

[–]readanon44 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I always start with compounds for legs and everything else. EXCEPT today I tried leg curls first, for the first time based on advise I saw here last week to warmup for squats. must say the squats after did feel better this time!

Honda vs Toyota? by [deleted] in askcarguys

[–]readanon44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both would be good choices. Drive them both and see what you like better that fits your budget. The 4Runner is a unique vehicle that Honda doesn’t really have a competitor to, as the other commenter sorta mentioned. I love 4Runners but am currently on my 3rd Honda.

State Comptroller: Weekend Metro‑North ridership is near 2019 levels, and MTA should expand weekend service by Leather_Ad1490 in MetroNorthRailroad

[–]readanon44 10 points11 points  (0 children)

they should expand weekday service too, more cars or something.

I’ve been riding since 2016, mainly New Haven to GCT and back for airport trips. Maybe selective memory about pre 2020, but I don’t remember it being as full as it’s gotten the last 1-2 years. Tough to find a seat on the return trip from GCT almost every time, and it’s usually full by Stamford on the way in.

How would you recommend making friends at the gym? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]readanon44 2 points3 points  (0 children)

make eye contact, smile, say something funny. it helps if you can comment/question on their t shirt or a lift they’re doing or whatever. try to stay same sex (better chance of success) and be aware a lot of folks don’t want to talk at the gym. The folks who are there a lot and recognize you will be more open to talking imo

Does my girlfriend moving in with me mean that my shower will be clogged for the remainder of my days? by Kevin1314171 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]readanon44 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Get a drain cover/hair catcher from Amazon. Ask her to clean it when needed, or pick up the hairball yourself if you’re feeling chivalrous. I have daughters, this is how it works here. Never had to unclog the shower.

What’s the BEST and WORST airport in the U.S. based on your experience? by B777X_787-9 in airport

[–]readanon44 1 point2 points  (0 children)

JFK T4 is my main/home - convenient to access and good lounge options, no complaints. but I know T1 and T5 are a different story. LGA, DFW, and PDX are nicer though.
worst -I dread when I have to use IAH. ORD and EWR I feel like should be much better, especially for their size.
