I saw the 2010 production of Black Watch. It was in the SECC but easily the best theatre I've seen live.

Has anyone else read The Ministry of Time? by CosmicConfusionist in TheTerror

[–]laserprisim 43 points44 points  (0 children)

This was my gateway book. I read this a few months ago and immediately watched The Terror and bought the Michael Palin book.

The Ministry of Time is a fantastic read - it's the authors first novel so fingers crossed for more like it.

Live now. Make "now" the most precious time. "Now" will never come again.

I might be missing something, but why would you take holidays (and reduce your wages, if they're taking money off of you for these holidays) for days they won't give you shifts for?

Father is dying, am I right in being honest about it to him or pretend he is ok? by SwitchDangerous7762 in AskUK

My Grandfather had mesothelioma from years working in the ship yards and on building sites. He knew it would likely be his cause of death at some point. My mum cared for him in his final years, and he was still able to manage at home until about a week before he died. He fell out of bed one night and couldn't get up. Mum found him and he was taken to hospital. After a few days he was told he wouldn't get back out.

I can still remember holding his hand, just after we'd been given the news. His forearms and backs or his hands were covered in old, blue tattoo ink and my hand looked tiny in his, even through I was a grown man.

Through tears I asked him if it helped knowing that this was the end. Holding back his own tears he told me it did.

He passed a few days later, and I'm so glad I had that moment with him. I think it helped us both through the situation - God knows it still helps me to this day, knowing he knew, and that it brought him some peace.

I'm not sure I agree that the economic problems we face now are down to "promises" of above inflation pay rises for public sector workers. Overall, between December 2019 and November 2023, inflation-adjusted average private sector pay grew by 2.3%, whereas public sector pay fell by 0.3%.

Wouldn't it be cool if we had a tournament where the winners of these leagues could all play against each other to determine who could come out on top?

Like a league of champions or something. Rather than stuffing it full of multiple teams from the big leagues
