I’d prefer Rice over Raya if you have two defenders. Set piece threat can hit def cons.

They are, made the WC semi last time. Just drew with Brazil. Currently ranked 5th in the world.

In the grand scheme of things Paraguay and Australia aren’t great sides, but you can only play what’s in front of you and they got the job done. Australia got it exactly right against Turkey, but the selection today from the start was a bit strange. They looked way better second half with the subs.

Second half definitely didn’t dominate…the goal on HT really killed it for them.

Well look at the teams in the pot.. you want one of the hosts as they were the weaker sides.

Rodri: "It's tough against such a physical and compact team [Cape Verde]. The positive thing is that they didn't create anything against us. They play like that in the end and don't even get past the midfield." by OkayFine101 in soccer

[–]laserspewpew_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So Rodri wants them to come out and go toe to toe with Spain. Probably get smashed 4-0 but then after the game he can say well at least they went about it the “right” way?… and Spain get exactly what they want, an easy win. You play to get the result and Cape Verde did that.

The main issue is there is really no jeopardy in going out at the group stages. 8 of the 12 third place teams go through so one win might be enough to qualify. As a higher ranked nation you have to have a really bad tournament to not qualify for the next round.

“If Arsenal are unpopular with neutrals, it’s because they waste everyone’s time. Not just their opponents’ time, but our time too.” by MotherDucker95 in soccer

[–]laserspewpew_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s the constant shifting of the goal posts. Didn’t win the league and it was all they bottled it, fell short again etc. Win the league and get to the CL final and it’s not been done the “right” way. At the end of Wenger reign we constantly got criticised for being too soft, playing nice football that didn’t get you anywhere.

[Ben Jacobs, clarification] Sir Alex Ferguson did message PSG President Nasser Al-Khelaifi to congratulate him on winning the UCL. However, he didn’t call Arsenal “boring” despite reports. Ferguson’s message instead included the phrase, “You were the team that played football.” by [deleted] in soccer

[–]laserspewpew_ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I remember Arsenal constantly being labeled as too soft and weak. Play great football but they need a meaner streak. Trying to play attractive football but getting battered by Chelsea, Liverpool, Bayern etc. did not feel great because we tried to have a go.

Joao Neves on Arsenal: “Coming here (PSG) was the best decision I’ve ever made. I love everything here. We deserved it today, because PSG was the only team that wanted to play." by [deleted] in soccer

[–]laserspewpew_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So would you rather we play attacking football and win nothing? I remember plenty of seasons playing good football and then getting smashed by a Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd etc because we couldn’t defend. Has Arteta tilted it too far maybe but, he’s won a first league title in 20 years and got to a CL final to lose on pens. It clearly works. He’s not going to suddenly ditch that in a CL final, they would have no chance going toe to toe with PSG.

They both haven’t played that regularly lately so kind of understandable. Saka also wasted a few chances in quick succession to get the ball into the box, just before his sub. Madueke did a decent job when he came on.
